Parting it out is the way to go! I parted out this set as well as the drop ship with AT-OT in 2018 for less than half the price. I did use replica stickers though that were 5-6 bucks each, couldnt bring myself to buy lego ones. Agree it feels so much more rewarding after going through this process.
I’m honestly going to start doing this. I want to part out and recolor Anakin’s Y-Wing to make it Blue, and I’m planning on parting out the Dropship as well.
This vid made me appreciate what I have all over again. I was incredibly lucky in 2013 and managed to snag two of these gunships while they were on sale for €100 each.
@@endangeredmexican9644 but deffo try to get it on sale! For me, it depends on the minfigures. I already have the one from 2013, for which I paid only €55
I actually got extremely lucky and found a 3/4 complete 2013 lego gunship on a hard rubbish pile, along with some other clone trooper figures, including a phase 1 captain Rex.
Yeah I just threw most of my Lego collection. I just kept Lego Technix stuff. It was mostly 80’s space Lego and base plates and stuff I didn’t think anyone would be interested in anymore. I don’t really like what Lego has become now which is is just a franchise machine for movies today. They used to be really innovative.
@@DEVILTAZ35 :( Any kid or lego fan would love those old lego, space was really fun and it's incredible how they last, having pieces or a set from 60/50/40years ago that fits with everything else is so great and you can always use the pieces for something else Something so durable and reusable should never end up in the trash to be destroyed
I did the same thing for the 2015 imperial shuttle, except for the fact that I had most of the set and all the figures. Building sets by going through the instructions is very satisfying.
Part-out retired Star Wars sets is often a better idea than buying a retired set. And if, like me, you couldn't care less about the Minifigures, means a significantly price cut in the process. I'm considering doing it but for the UCS Death Star II and Imperial Shuttle...'cause I'm not giving 3000€ for a new Death Star II, or 900€ for a new Imperial Shuttle.
The only retired set I've ever gotten was the Ideas Wall-E. I thought about parting it out on Bricklink, but that made the set twice as expensive. Ultimately got it sealed in box on ebay. So excited to have Wall-E!
I’ve desperately been wanting that for like 3 years now. But then I always push it off then by the next time I look of course it’s just more and more money lol. It’s almost not even worth the price anymore to me.
Parting out retired sets made my parts collection bigger. Especially when I was building the older AT-AT before the 2 newest ones. Salvaged sets also can be fulfilling too. I'm currently parting out the clone wars gunship its much easier to find parts for in my opinion.
I wish I could put in this much effort especially the getting all the pieces But Australia isn’t the best with lego Star Wars and the lego store nearby is like a hour away
Great video! I don’t know way people don’t do this more. I was able to build a couple AT-OP dropship with AT-TE for about double your cost. My two big tips: (1) look at every part price because you can often save a lot if you switch a few pieces to used instead of new; and (2) order replacement/copied stickers on eBay.
Holly, suggest you update your mic setup for this type of audio, it sounds pretty tinny, whereas your video, presentation and editing are top notch. Check out Rode mics, a fine Oz company.
I made 2 jabbas palaces like this (the 2012 version). My experience: it will cost wayyyyy more than you figue out at first, the 80/20 rule comes into play (80 % of the parts take 20 % of the time to find, the last 20 % takes up the rest of your time) to make sure I had all parts I made a print of the parts pages of the build manual , cut them all out and put them in order into trays. As soon as I had all the specific bricks required the print got taken out and discarded, so I was able to keep track of what still to order and what was complete. Also helped with building as all was neatly sorted. I also helped in the building proces that I checked the bricks so many times I blindy could get em without searching.
you can try buying from HongKong if you want retired sets, they're often slightly cheaper there I have found mint condition (with original box but not sealed) 2013 gunships for as low as 3300 HKD (420 USD)
I'd probably do the Bricklink parts scheme for LEGO Elves, but I'd mainly focus on getting all the mini-dolls because those sets are gonna cost a ton in the aftermarket.
Somewhat in line with your project, I am thinking a lot about trying to buy a Moc instruction and make an order on Bricklink and do a Moc instead of an official set. I once saw a ship on a big wave made of a map and I would go pretty far to own that..in due time. But you do help push me towards going beyond official sets. I like this new style of yours where you are more..contemplating things..than just talking about them, if that makes any sense.

Went on to also part out Emerald Night and Imperial Flagship. Def save a lot compared to brand new sealed sets and it’s fun. I do want a minifig scale Gunship but I will continue to wait as I think they will eventually release another one, surely.
This was one of my most wanted sets... and yes... extremely expensive here in the US, until... a few months ago I found one used, 100% complete with all figs and manuals for USD200! Mint condition. I couldn't believe it... so don't lose hope guys! Great job Holly parting it out. That's another great way to get it.

Hi Holly, I don't suppose it would be possible if you could expand on the dome situation please? Trying to do this myself and I'm looking at the parts list but I'm confused on the quantity I'd need. The 2013 set has x4 for the domes but the 2021 set is saying x8 for their domes. Unsure on why that is.
The UCS one uses two each on each section (front and back, top and bottom on each side), whereas the play set one because it’s a lot smaller can only do the front and top on each side
My cousin is out of interest with lego and is planning on selling his sets and figures. Some of these include the 2013 republic gunship, the 2014 Ghost, the duel on genesis, the 2015 clone turbo tank. I'm really tempted to maybe buy a few...
I did this for the Ghost a year ago because it had gotten so expensive. I did save some money but the amount of time it took to order everything and organize and build it was sooo much longer that it wasnt really cost-effective for me. Some parts were rare and hard to get and ultimately the time it took was not worth it for me and I ended up wishing I had just bought the actual set from the start.
Guys before you try a random set, please keep in mind that this technic is only useful for sets that were just remade and sets that costs over 200bucks because of huge shipping costs and you won’t find any cheap parts of those parts weren’t just released. Lastly, this technic doesn’t work on Ninjago and bionicle because of the absurd amount of printed pieces, minifigures and super rare pieces in general.
I remember my cousin gave me a sealed 2013 gunship when I was 6 years old. But about 2 years later, i lost all of the figs, but my gunship is still intact
