You know you have a problem when you've heard at least half of the entries on the last few tiers and go, "Oh, those are grim. But I've heard worse." That said, it's very hard to get worse than Buyer's Market, let alone the possibly mythical last entry, which are kind of cheating. I did appreciate some of the deeper cuts, though; in particular, I am a huge :zoviet*france: fangirl, and Univers Zéro were a big inspiration to me as a young'un.
Just for fun, some records I didn't see here which I think would totally fit at various levels:

important to understand that icebergs arent ranking lists. its not least disturbing to most disturbing. its most well known to least well known. the further down the iceberg you go the more obscure the art is. so thats why the list is inconsistent in how disturbing it is.

@@aethereal9032 frankly i think its far more interesting than ranking lists, considering ranking lists are just personal opinion, nothing more. you learn nothing from a ranked list whereas ice bergs teach you about things you might not have heard of before, things most people might not have heard of before. if that doesnt interest you it doesnt have to, but theres a reason its popular.

    I've subbed, absolutely great content.
Steve Albini is a weird one... He appears absolutely everywhere in the liner notes of everything, I mean, he's already involved in a few in these tiers. Honestly, he's like a spilled bag of glitter, years later when you thought you'd found it all, you'll find it in the least expected places...

You know, it's funny: The self-titled is probably the scarier album overall, but in between the mellower "pop" cuts, the sophomore album has "Harlem", which is completely unhinged. Personally, though, I'd go with either Half-Alive or 23 Minutes Over Brussels in the freaky Suicide releases sweepstakes.

Glad to see Pork Soda getting attention in discussion of disturbing albums. The song Mr. Krinkle has such a lighthearted subject matter, but the song’s sound and the music video are so damn creepy. Bob is an example of track from the album that both sounds unsettling and has unsettling lyrics. Album has such a spooky vibe overall even with songs that don’t have disturbing lyrics (or lyrics at all).

Martin Bladh of death industrial titans IRM made an official "remix" album of Buyer's Market, transforming the samples into a dark ambient collage piece over which Bladh performs spoken word drawing from several of Sotos' essays on tabloid media's morbid fixation on the abuse and murder of children. It's apparently quite tastefully executed for what it is, albeit very disturbing and by no means a comfortable sit.

Soundtracks is good, my favorite album actually, but it was generally just Gira trying to get everything he could out before he left, and it is really good, but i wouldnt really call it disturbing, it gets disturbing at moments 100%, especially the noise/found sound parts like her mouth is filled with honey. But its not 100% disturbing from start to finish. Cop and young god though grab you from the very beginning and drag you through mud and fire until the very moment the album/ep ends

the character pink wasnt based on syd barrett, piper at the gates of dawn was. (imo) pink is based on waters himself. the concept of the album is isolation and alienation. pink doesnt like to feel like a vulnerable child so he builds a wall around his heart and surrounds himself with people that dont really know him. (again, in my opinion..i think the albums concept is really based on our perception of it). another way to put it is that its the same thing when you see the little girls posting "ive been thru so much you dont even know so thats why im a bitch" all over social edia. "my hearts been broken too many times im so strong". I think that towards the end of the album, when pink is reflecting on himself, thats when he decides to "tear down the wall". when he does so, hes just a lonely little boy that misses his dad. thats why i feel like pink is based on waters. I dunno though.. this is just my interpretation of it, I dont know if any of this makes sense but I will absolutely agree that its one of the best albums ever written. that and nine inch nails the fragile. shout out to pork soda too, I love les claypool lol seeing roger waters perform the wall in 2016 was one of the best shows ive ever been to.

late, and slightly biased because im a fan of both of these bands
dystopia's first album *human = garbage* (important and amazing album) is an honorable mention, using haunting and distubing samples in bold and raw straight to the point lyrics full of self loathing, and anger towards real world problems that are still prevalent in todays world
also rudimentary peni's discography is pretty disturbing throughout, but *pope adrian 37th psychiatric* is by far the most difficult listen and makes it that much more intriguing knowing it was written while the singer was involuntarily institutionalized and was having delusions and an episode??
definitely a dark band thats worth a listen, very punk inspired, distrust for the system, inspired albums that progressed into an obsession of death, hp lovecraft, that pointless of humanity, and all worth listens

Nah, you gotta put “Helium” on there. Similar lyrical themes to “The Stars Are So Big…”, but it replaces the lovely post-rock sound that album had with… well, I’m not quite sure *how* to properly describe “Helium’s” disturbingly whimsical sound.

Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has two disturbing albums from the 90s, when he was out of the band due to issues with addiction and depression. Niandra DeLes from 1994 and Smile From The Streets You Hold from 1997 are both recorded by him entirely in his home, the first on decent recording equipment but the second mostly on cheap boomboxes. On both albums you can hear how much of a horrible place he was in at the time, from the lyrics and his literally degrading voice. By the second album he was basically weeks away from death but his friends helped him get into rehab and a year later he rejoined the Chili Peppers and has since been in a much better place. But both of those albums (the second one not even on streaming or sold physically anymore) are a disturbing view into a very real downward spiral, along with the interviews and “Stuff” documentary from that time.
