    Follow up video here: ruclips.net/video/jNV-KCBf-us/видео.html
    Here’s the FTC article I was reading from: consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-know-about-credit-freezes-and-fraud-alerts
    8-16-25 Edit: here’s a local news agency that found a way to look up your info and see if you got hacked: ktla.com/news/local-news/check-now-was-your-ssn-exposed-in-huge-data-leak/
    Please note: i misspoke in the opening line of the video. Obviously there aren't 2.9 billion Americans. The leak was apparently 2.9 billion records. I assume each adult working in the US could have multiple records. Also, the database could have kept records of deceased people conceivably. Also, the company that was hacked was used in the US, Canada, and the UK to make background checks happen so the number of records is not limited by the current population of the US. (people in the comments seem to think this is political in some way, I neither meant it to go that direction nor do I see political indicators in the articles I read)
    Also at 1:00 in the video I edited the audio wrong so it gets super loud! So sorry about this especially to headphone users.
    Finally, and hopefully my last error: I do some terrible mental math to calculate that the value of a persons private info is $1, but that's wrong since we are talking about 2.9 BILLION records, so the better math would be that each record was for sale for about $0.0012. Even if I had 10 records for sale in the database, I'd only be worth 1 penny, not 1 dollar. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for watching!

      now i could be wrong but its actually not that bad, i recommend this video for true information. 3 Billion Social Security Numbers Leaked On The Dark Web

    • @BrendanEvan
      @BrendanEvan  2 месяца назад +12

      Also, I misspoke at the start of the video saying 2.9 billion Americans. It’s 2.9 billion records. I imagine a working adult could have multiple records to their name. And the hacked company worked in multiple countries. (Somehow the number discrepancy seems political to many people but I don’t see an indication of that in the articles)
      - Also watch out for the 1:00 mark in the video I will disfigure your eardrums by accident, poor audio editing.
      - Also also $3.5 million to sell the info divided by 2.9 billion records is closer to $0.0012 per record. So even if I had 10 records stolen, I’m only worth a penny to the criminals.

    • @LowBudgetYoutuber

      This is a horrible we all going to lose everything and be in debt. 2.9 Billion is UK, Canada and America. Credit Cards, Mortgage, Rentals, Car registration, Everything and everyone will pay and have money stolen in their name.

Every doctor or dentist you ever visited, every hospital you have been in, every one of your utility companies you have ever patronized, your credit card companies, your bank(s), probably car dealerships, your mortgage holders, etc. etc. In the 90s I knew a guy that purchased and sold several real estate properties. He told me EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the voluminous mortgage papers had his and his wife's SSN pre-printed on them along with the page number. At the time I figured there were probably mud huts in some third world country with their mortgage papers used as wallpaper on the walls.

With automation tools like local housed AI now coming to market the whole security issue is going to get harder.
