What Happened To This Lake?!

Lakes change every year in subtle and big ways. Today I fish a lake I've known my whole life and am surprised to see just how much it has changed. I am left dumb founded how such a deep clear lake can virtually die in just a year,

I live in Madison Wi and some of our lakes are getting infested with zebra mussels. They eat the phytoplankton and zooplankton which cuts down a foodsource for panfish which effects the gamefish. We're hearing complaints about reduced pannie numbers.

If smallmouth aren't native to your lake then I'd probably look to them as the culprit. They're aggressive ravenous eaters. There's reports of them being introduced into Southern lakes and rivers in causing huge issues as well.
