JCW was amazing, but in all seriousness, if you liked Chris enough in the beginning, then u should still enjoy him and the drummer and bassist that has been with him for 35 years. The lead guitarist has been with them at least 25 years too!
Wow, what a treat. James Wilsey's sound grabbed me as soon as I heard it. Got to see them in the beginning several times. Nice to travel back in time a bit.
OK - I had no idea this video existed, in July 85 I was the backline Roadie. So strange to see video on my younger self. Got anymore? RIP Cal, you ripped it. Peace all
glad you enjoyed it, I don't have any other Chris Isaak video. I worked with Jack Williamson, who ran the video there. Sometimes he let me pop a tape in the system and record. I think there were only 2 copies, I had one and Dave something that started Amoeba records had the other. I have posted most of the other shows I recorded.
JIMMY WISLEY IS SO GREAT....THAT IS THE SILVERSTONE SOUND. THIS IS A CLASSIC ROCK BAD BAND...........AS GREAT AS EVER 02-19-2021!!!!!! WANT TO SEE THEM NOW....SOON?
This footage was mentioned in Michael Goldberg’s book, “Wicked Game the True Story of James Calvin Wilsey” (page 34). Thank you for sharing it. Rest in eternal peace James my friend.
Thst waz the 1st song he wrote. He said. About a friend in high school. Was it fiction. Probably not. He creates drama if he doesn't get it any more. And those were his songs Kenny ur so mean.
I saw Chris a couple years after this at this venue and the smaller Nightbreak which was across the street. Both were on Haight St in SF. Very good memories.
I have seen a bezillion concerts and videos and sadly, only one live concert, but I have to say, watching this has been a highlight as it takes me back to Chris's early career. not his original drummer or bassist (John Silvers and Jamie Ayers respectively), but his long time drummer, Kenney Dale Johnson and long time bassist, Roland Salley. RIP James Calvin Wilsey
A piece of Music History here, thanks a lot for share, I always wanted to see a show with the originals Silvertone and I was very young at the time, I always felt like it wasn't the same without J.W., a big fan of Jimmy Wilsey's sound, R.I.P.
Great to hear an early LIVE show from Chris Isaak & Silvertone. Sound is fine, what more can you expect from an old VHS tape ? Some songs I've never heard him sing before.
Thank you for uploading this! I am a huge CI & Silvertone fan and grew up in the city, but was too young to go to shows in ‘87. This is the era that I always wished I had seen the band so I eat up every video I can find. Thank you!
HI MR. LR, THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS AMAZING RARE EPIC SHOW & RECORDING!! I READ YOUR CHANNEL DESCRIPTION. KINDLY CLARIFY, YOU TAPED THIS SHOW YOURSELF??? MAY I ASK WHAT MASSIVE EQUIPMENT DID YOU USE BACK IN THE DAYS?:) MUCH GRATITUDE & BLESSINGS
It's embarrassing what we used. A magnavox consumer camera into a magnavox vhs deck, consumer quality again. The audio was from the soundboard, patched into the vhs recorder. That's it.
Wow! Great memories! Saw Chris at the I Beam several times back then. What a great show, and always a great time! The city was a very different place then than now. Miss it. Love Chris and the Silvertones!
Thanks to the uploader for making it possible with the tech of the time... These recordings are so important, truly valued by fans and "musicologist" historians! Wondefully different vibe to this period of Chris Isaak and The Silvertones. I'm glad to have viewed these magical moments, and I apprecitate them all! Great insight to these guys in their younger years... I know that Wicked Game wasn't released until 1987, if that was also on this setlist it would be 110% more magical!
@@1elare Ok, thanks! I've just watched the whole performance and I remember that Blue hotel, Diddley daddy and In the heat of the jungle were actually broadcast on French TV in a programme called Musicalifornia, I had an amateur band at that time (Rick Rydell and the Electros)and we covered Blue hotel on stage before it was even released by Chris!
Thank you soooo much for sharing! For those of us who were either a tad too young, or lived too far from SF, or both, being able to see this is gold. It's so cool to be able to compare his performances from back in his early days to how they evolved over the years.
@mandyinseattle....August 16th, 2021.....Afghanistan is falling into Taliban’s hands. The withdrawal has been horribly mismanaged by that brain dead life long career politician, and laughable new “woke” military. Biden (My butt’s been wiped!) is destroying this country. Eight months into the administration....total breakdown at the border, rampant inflation ..etc.... but Hey!! You got rid of the mean tweeter! 👍
Chris , Mark plummer and the producer played long enough for Jimmy to record the 1st record. Then they fired him, to make Jimmy' s sound Chris Isaac's sound. Jimmy died NEARLY IN HIS CAMP UNDER AN SF FREEWAY. Some say he was still happy. His small earnings held him through lowest of disparity. He was a true artist and real, human. I guess Chriss was too. Human that is. Artist no.
That's not correct, Angelique. Chris & Jimmy Wilsey played together through the first four albums. Jimmy left to do other things. Chris knew how hard it would be to replace him & wanted him to stay. In no way was he "victimized" by Chris.

I think Jimmy was the heart of the band, never listened to them after he left

Too bad I can only click the Like button once. This one's for Jimmy; I need another one for Chris.
Does one Love equal 2 likes? But I do know what you mean.
Chris Isaak is more famous in France than in the US ... I know him since "Dancin", we did not wait " blue hotel" to know him !

Many thanks for the superb performance of Silvertone and Chris.

Incredible sound from a vhs cam.
He is amazing but I like his old style ( pre 2000) songs a lot more than post 2000 era. They were more ballads. But he is still incredible

Precious early Chris Isaak live performance footage!! I love his songs, he has a lot of charisma!
