JT speaks about his dad with such wisdom and forgiveness. my dad’s parenting style is similar to townes’ and it’s been hard for me to achieve the level of forgiveness shown here. jt seems like a grade a human being.
Gage Brown In many ways, our parents are doing the best they can with what they’ve got. Sometimes we can’t see it or we might not be able to understand it, but we all have our demons. Some demons are bigger than others.
I was going to bed but I decided to watch one last video, then I watched it four more times. This story is me and who I want to be all at once. Thank you for sharing.
The way he describes the hyper focus really resonates with me. Its exactly what I love about fishing; when you're fishing, you're doing just that, you're just fishing.
Oh, how I wish J.T. would see this. The last time I saw him was at Executive Surf Club in Corpus Christi. That was the last time I saw Townes, too. I sang a song to Townes that I had written for him years and years before... don't know if J.T. would remember that. I have just the greatest respect for J.T. and what he's accomplished in his life ... he parlayed that hand he was dealt into a real winner. And now I'm gonna go hunt for a tissue. Much, much love, kiddo. Well done.
JT is the real deal. Always grateful for his insight. I’ve loved Townes for years but recently my admiration has shifted to JT. Understanding that you can appreciate the art Townes was able to make but still be realistic about who he was. Thanks for your perspective JT.
This is the best video I've ever watched. This and Watchtower over Turkey. The story, the music, the way it was filmed and edited. I regularly come back and watch this. Well played to the film maker.
I discovered Townes about 5 years ago after hearing a local musician in Kinsale, Ireland singing Pancho & Lefty. I've listened to his music everyday since. I discovered J.T on RUclips very recently and I'm really impressed at his maturity, clarity, passion and love for his family. I started my own family at a similar age and I can relate -
I just shared this with the many father figures in my life. Went through my Rolodex and shared it with all of em’. This video brought back so many good and bad memories. From spending time with my father. Life is a little bit sweet and a little bit bitter. Love this video. I’m gonna watch this on a weekly basis to remind me. Why I’m trying to be a better father than mine was 🔥
The redemption of the father Lives in the son, The son lives in the mothers heart, And mother she loves them both And keeps us afloat Through all our manly mistakes Made at night, Until the morning. ❤️🔥
I always watched JT’s fishing videos and thought you looked just exactly like van zandt, now I know why! 😂 I am a huge fan of both of you! Keep em’ coming!
I had this saved on my playlist watch later for a long time i just wasn’t ready for it until 8 minutes and 2 seconds ago. Was surprised to see who it was and who is father was. Great video.
I was loaned a Van Zandt album in my mid 20s by a crazy, bearded guy who came into the bookstore where I worked. I was a young hippie kid, who'd never heard anything like that. What a great way to reconnect to Townes' legacy, and know more about his son. Now I'm older, I fly fish and this really short really made my think about my own legacy and my own father. Thank you.
I needed this today. If J.T does see this I fuckin vow to met him and Alvin Dedeaux someday and thank them for being an example of what a real man can be when he has true passion for life and living. My sons will know of them and how they inspired me to continually be a better father, husband and of course a passion for fly fishing. ;)
I would love to shake JTs hand. I have a deep love for his fathers music, but i would have never wanted him as my dad. I had a bit similar, but not as extreme. JT seems to have a real sound head and heart.
Love this!! I met Townes at a songwriter night I was playing at Douglas Corner in Nashville. May of '95. He complimented our round and I was stoked! So interesting and great to see where JT has landed and is thriving as a craftsman in his own right and at the center of his gifted-ness!.... Beautiful video.

And then go to bed early, wake up, and do it again.
@@Halliday55 Go to sleep and wake up early and do it again.
Your dad’s songs meant more to me than I can express .
didn't have my kids til my 40's. Best thing I ever did, for them and for me. I love my girls more than anything in this world.
The way he describes the hyper focus really resonates with me. Its exactly what I love about fishing; when you're fishing, you're doing just that, you're just fishing.
JT is amazingly poetic himself. Fishing with JT is on the bucket list for sure.
As eloquent and insightful as his father. What men.

Wow. He looks just like his dad.
How many of us who grew up to a single mom wishing there dad was around could learn to love and cherish life from listening to this man

Beautiful words JT, motivating.
As a father of three tiny kids, trying to be the best creative he can be, this was heartfelt.
Thanks for the advice JT, specially now that I'm a dad myself... your father would be so proud.
Excellent subject, excellent story, and excellent work to the team making this.
This always hits me in the heart and gut. JT, thanks for being open and honest, I’m glad you found your own passion. Very powerful and moving video.
I’ve watched this a dozen times, it’s emotional award winning stuff. Thanks
This is a quality short doc. The fact that It's about the son of Townes and it is surrounded by fly fishing is pretty amazing!!
