Ah man I just did a whole dissertation on how the government (uk) fails to use hardware and software with sufficient measures
the uk government gives their tech and website and stuff jobs to the job center programmers, you've seen their websites most of the time and how bad they are
@@LucasImpulse You're blaming the job centre have you seen schools in this country? You'd probably be better off hiring from the job centre lol.
Do You mind sharing your dissertation if its already submitted. I would like to read that
tbh the UK governments websites are quite cohesive and functional if you compare them to other countries, you can do a lot through them and they work reliably in my experience

This is not actual EnterpriseG, as can be seen in winver, this is a poorly made reconstruction. For those who have seen posts on Reddit and Twitter, please be aware that there is no actual Windows 11 Enterprise G ISO. All ISOs that claim to be Enterprise G are hacked together by similar methods to those shown in this video (I would know, I have written software that does exactly this).
The only real EnterpriseG ISOs are those made by CMIT, and they are exclusively Chinese-localized Windows 10 ISOs with no official English language packs. These ISOs also receive customized updates from Chinese servers and contain various Chinese government enterprise enrollment software, so I would not recommend using them as a daily driver.
If you *really* need a "debloated" version of Windows 11, use Windows 11 IoT LTSC. For those who are fine with Windows 10, use Windows 10 IoT LTSC. Please do not bother with these hacked together copies, as they have been reported by myself and others to have various stability issues.
interesting, what software have you made though?
eric should pin this comment frfr
Please note that there are reasons why Microsoft does not recommend enterprises run LTSC on all their PCs / VMs. As someone who is forced to use LTSC daily, it kind of sucks. Like, WPA 3 is too new for my work laptop sucks.

The command line "freezing" is because you ended up in text selection mode and the console doesn't want to update the screen in case text you're selecting disappears. Pressing any key that would type text would take you out, as would the Esc key.
or you could right click and not give any keyboard input to the terminal (effectively copying the selected text to the clipboard)
yes, why you wouldn't just click the terminal from the title bar is beyond me.
on a side note entering selection mode is a very easy way to just pause a CLI application, too.
3:14 it's a setting, that can freeze CMD & PowerShell. IIRC you need to press the icon at the top left of the window, then go into "properties" (or was it options?), and there should be an option that affects this behavior
its "quick edit mode"
this would be extremely funny if windows is collecting data from governmental properties

That would imply that the US government is using computers modern enough to collect information rather than running everything information-sensitive on Windows XP and dumping ridiculous amounts of money into paying for patches.
I do not think this is really for the Chinese mainly. There was a huge controversy in the US DoD a few years back when Microsoft pushed their save to cloud bullshit. One of the generals gave Microsoft a stern talking to because classified documents were being saved to external servers at Microsoft.
I doubt it. The DoD agencies I may or may not have worked with just use a Windows enterprise edition and customize it from there (group policy, etc).
The computers that would probably *hold* these documents aren't connected to the Internet to begin with. They are either standalone or on an air gaped network.
@@alexdhall thanks for the info. i must have heard a misheard story.
Chinese government is using a Chinese build of Linux these days.
Same story with co-pilot/recall...
@@alexdhall No, most documents are classified, including payroll, medical records, personnel records, etc. When people say classified they aren't talking about super secret weapon plans but just documents that should never be shared. It would make no sense whatsoever to have those systems off the network.
The military has a giant online web portal that you use two factor and a smart card reader to access, and on there you can view certain classified materials you have access to according to your particular job. Classified documents are not random papers in vanilla folders.
I clicked thinking it was gonna be the full spyware version where everything is streamed live back to servers, meaning 0 privacy. Full control from the government. 😂
3:05 That "Freeze until you type a character" is a Windows CMD feature. When you select something, even one character by left-clicking, it effectively halts the program so that you can make the selection and then right-click or type a character to unhalt it and resume operation. This is extremely annoying and the first thing I disable on new installations of Windows Server.
On the normal Windows CMD, click on the top-left icon so you get the dropdown menu and either select Defaults or Properties. Defaults is for every CMD session after the currently opened one; Properties is only for the current session and is not saved. Then just disable: "Quick Edit Mode" and "Insert Mode." I don't know if both are really needed, but I don't want these kinds of features anyway, so I always untick both.
The program isn't halted; just its output is. It's still running in the background.
@@Daniel15au That's not right. If the program wants to print something to the console - like an progress bar -, it will halt the execution. You can easily test this yourself with a simple web server that prints to the console every time you load the endpoint in your browser. When you then select something in the console and try to hit the endpoint, it won't respond until you have nothing selected again.

I like the way MS still believe they can sell lots of copies of Windows in China. The Chinese will do what they always do, buy 1x copy then copy it 1.4 billion times.
Microsoft obvious does, they have way more information on that, than you would have. Large Chinese OEMs do sell their device with legit keys, and so does the Chinese government when acquiring software themselves. Otherwise Microsoft wouldn't go through the effort creating a Windows edition just for them.
Me European-decent, Me Exceptional. Me use Windows, which was stolen from Xerox basically.. Me no like when European not the one doing the stealing :(
Most of those cracked versions of windows in China are all backdoored. This is partly how the government monitors people there.
Buy a copy..?? Hahaha you're kidding right.. they don't buy anything if they don't have to. Remember china doesn't believe in copyright.

Windows 11 Government Edition is NOT an official build distributed by Microsoft.
This is just a debloated less secure build of Windows 11 that became viral because of a misleading tweet. An LTSC or Enterprise version is much more secure as it includes things like Windows Defender which keep the user and PC safe.
Indeed, this is NOT the official Windows 11 Enterprise G, this is a reconstructed version made by someone
1:53 Can't say Habr is Reddit-like, it's a platform mostly for IT-related and scientific articles rather than a thread-based forum.
Government edition?? What does it do - upload records of everything you do to the government? I bought a Windows 11 laptop and upgraded it to Windows 10.
windows defender is a suite of like 50 different softwares, running on many different platforms and operating systems. The one on windows 11 is everything from the basic firewall all the way to the active protection.

In this mode any running application in the console is paused and you can select text from the console. To get out of the select mode you would press Esc. :)
Next contoso thing, it's a msft thing to use Contoso as a placeholder for company names where they either can't just use Microsoft or in the software demos.
Not a Big Fan Of the Government
Honestly, I was very surprised that it hadn't striped out all the Consumer Features, but I suppose if they set it up for user accounts then the admin can just give people access to what they want to have so it doesn't matter as much. I also assume that some companies will strip defender as you said for privacy, but also because they will run an enterprise virus scanned which may conflict with defender, so why not strip it to reduce the chance of issues.

As someone who has a family member who’s an American federal employee (not exposing who it is or for what entity for privacy reasons), I can confirm that they do NOT use a modified version of Windows 11. They still use a modified version of Windows 10. I asked said family member to ask their IT department why they don’t use Windows 11, and they said “It’s not as secure as Windows 10.” Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know not that it affects me any.

As for Russian government and other state-driven structures, only updates approved by FSB allowed to install. It also includes Windows releases.
Due to sanctions many Western software vendors have cancelled or even broken their contacts (broken means violated by cancelling prepaid service subscriptions without refund), so Russia switches to its own Linux distributions.
As a compensation for the Western software vendors behavior, legal punishment for piracy against the companies who joined the sanctions against Russia is postponed.
