It went from a slight burning to absolute fire within 5 minutes. I had to go to the er and flush my eye out for 30 min. It swelled up and hurt all day. I could have gone blind without flushing it. Always wear protective gear and know what your cutting.

I spent my early years living right next to a Sandbox tree in Miami. My grandmother's mailbox was mounted on it. I was told the fruit explodes yet I never witnessed it to my disappointment. It occupied the center of my familie's property. It was the largest tree among several other interesting trees. P.S. I'm still alive.
The fruit does explode but only when it dries out, if you're in a particularly wet environment such as perhaps you're part of Miami which it wasn't native to that might not manifest?
