  • Is the grass greener abroad?
Over the weekend Leo Varadkar downplayed a poll showing how many young people were thinking of emigrating - saying “the grass looks greener” but often isn’t.
In this week’s Group Chat, listeners hit back at Leo Varadkar and tell him how green it is.

It always seems to be overlooked but is a massive signal to how silly the property situation is in Ireland is that the defecto national property website is called Daft.. because you'd have to be daft to rent or buy here.

Here is a man who is of immigration.
Here is not a man who's family suffered or fought.
Here is a man who will feel more for them, than the native Irish.
Here is a man who will willingly allow this curse of 'cultural enrichment ' befall our country.
We Irish patriots need to fight once again for our identity and our freedom.

All talk about rent and house prices but what about Irelands backward health care system. 4 year waits to see a HSE specialist for Gods sake. People on trolleys in corridors in all hospitals here. Disgrace but nobody protests about health here. All about property as per norm for 100 years 🙄

Young people leave now to experience living in a different country by and large unlike my day when there was no hope here, but certainly the housing situation is rapidly becoming a factor and must be seriously addressed by this government but no signs of it yet.

I graduated university back in 2012 into one of Ireland's worst recessions and job markets(I think >30% of young people were unemployed). Finding any kind of decent job was extremely difficult, but I always knew that no matter what I'd be able to get a decent gaff and have a roof over my head. I had my first job in Leixlip, and my rent was just 400 a month for a bedroom(it seems like a fantasy compared to current prices). I left Ireland to get a better job, but have always wanted to return home. While job market improved significantly, I'm now blocked from returning home due to the insanity of the housing market. It seems Irish people can have jobs or housing, never both. I could live with my parents, but I'm 34, not 24.

Ireland is s country that cannot say for sure how much barbed wire they have on the landscape.. Kitchener rolled it out first in the Boer War concentration camps and the Irish Statutes cite a law dated 1893 .. independence has done nothing about this and anything or anywhere beyond the barbed wire concentration camps of Ireland is great value...the definition of concentration camp being not knowing how much barbed wire you have to keep people in and ensure morality and order...it is still Kitchener's Ireland with a tricolour.

    Your commenters nailed it.
We've given up our half our living room in D1 for 3 years, because students have become so desperate.
It's completely out of control, it was fine until 2015, now ruining many thousands of lives.
A decent government for and by the people would slash every private rent in Dublin by 50% immediately and give tenants absolute right of tenure until further notice.
To be replaced by strict rent and standards control until massive Housing Association building programs replace the private sector. Compulsory purchase of appropriate land at a government set price.
