They reliably get re-elected just because they are the largest parties without having to actually do anything. They have practically no incentive to do any long term investment. After decades of FF/FG leadership we have the longest hospital waiting lists in recent history, largest homelessness crisis in history, constantly growing housing problems and a steadily shifting tax burden, plus a long list of other long term problems that will never be addressed. I mean we have a single hospital that is so far over budget that we could have built 2 or 3 hospitals for the same price. And many cases of schools waiting so long to be replaced that the prefabs that were supposed to be temporary ended up being around for 20+ years. The kind of governance that has 1 in 10 schools in prefabs and in some cases for 20+ years is intentional. Again, why should they bother to invest, they clearly get the votes anyway. @@themadfarmer5207 for people not to like a whole nation of people because of something that happened years ago, and most people alive had no control over is absurd. With that said, I also think these generalisations of x hating y because of z is also a grossly exaggerated generalisation. Take the UK as an example, you will hear "the Scottish hate the English". As an Englishman Ive visited Scotland MANY times and they are lovely people. There's no hate for me. Sure you might get the odd extremist (like with anything in life) but from my experiences, what you are saying here is simply not true.
In fairness the full dialogue between the two is not in this video but it starts with Ray pointing out varadkars behavior towards him. There’s nothing nice or not nice about that, it is what it is and it’s varadkars behavior. If varadkar doesn’t like his own behavior being pointed out to him then perhaps he should look at his own behavior instead of projecting it back at the person who tried to make him aware of it. This reminds me of the incident between ray and martin where ray was raising a concern put forward to him by his constituents. Martin laughed, sneered and made a mockery of an issue that was of genuine concern to a group of people purely because it was ray raising the issue for them. That is indeed looking down one’s nose at someone because of who they are and using it as an excuse not to listen to the issue they are raising on behalf of the people. Ray lost the plot and it turned into a shouting match across the room. Personally it’s obvious to me that individuals like this who can’t get passed their own emotions and their own biases have no business being in government. The point that ray is making in this video clip is perfectly valid. You take your own personal bias out of the situation and you listen to what the people say and want because it’s your job to represent their concerns. The country ‘is’ the people, not the clowns in a government building. If the people don’t have a say and it’s all down to the opinions of this lot... then there is no democracy here. All people have an inherent ability to do what they want and live their lives as they see fit in order to explore, create and progress, provided what they do doesn’t impose on others or prevent others from living their lives as they see fit. Anything other than that is an attempt to control and people who try to do that have no respect or integrity. It’s clear a lot of politicians need lessons in personal development and to understand that debate is just one side arguing another. This serves no purpose in resolving issues. Listening, understanding and being able to see issues from multiple points of view and being able to engage in a conversation in an open, honest and unbiased manner is the type of person who is needed in our governance. I’m yet to come across such a person. I’m not a fan of ray but at least he understands his job is in ‘service’ to his constituents. Now if he could just practice keeping his emotions under control....

@@Subjagator Why might they be motivated to increase building? For re-election.
@@jamesmcgarry1229
The two largest parties, FF/FG have been in power for many decades, practically constantly since the beginning of the state.
Perhaps that is changing though, SF saw a massive surge in popular support in the last election so maybe people are finally fed up with the status quo of the FF/FG monopoly where they talk a big game when in opposition but then do nothing when in power.
@@Subjagator I hope SF augers positive change, and I'm an American seeing this and commenting. Sure you might get the odd extremist (like with anything in life) but from my experiences, what you are saying here is simply not true.
Haven't had a laugh like this for ages thanks to the brilliant comments made here .Encore .🤣🤣🤣
