I went to the museum last time I went to Japan and absolutely loved it. I wasn't sure I wanted to make the trip to the park next time I go to Japan but you guys kinda sold me on it with your video! ❤
The sense of discovery you described in the Witches House feels a lot like my reaction to OmegaMart, specifically the feeling of being able to comb through files, binders, desks, notes and etc. and not having any of that stuff bolted down.
Appreciate you giving us a list of the best films to check out before visiting here. As someone who has never seen a Studio Ghibli film but is OBSESSED with themed spaces, thats a huge help!!!
How have you never seen Princess Mononoke? That movie is like a Ghibli staple and one of the best films they've made. It's sad that the Park couldn't capture beauty of it because it would've been amazing if they created a moss covered forest floor with statues of the spirits that are in the film.
I’m still surprised that Ghibli didn’t team up with Disney to bring their movies into the parks (Tokyo or otherwise), but in hindsight, only Studio Ghibli themselves could make a Ghibli theme park (especially one that emphasizes the “park” part of “theme park”).
I reckon maybe a decade ago it could have happened, but Disney these days is only interested in pushing their own products. Ghibli's best option now would be somebody like Universal who are still happy to take on other brands such as Nintendo, Pokemon and Harry Potter.
@@ReviewTymeHayao Miyazaki has made it clear he wants nothing to do with Bob Iger and Disney (even though the deal would really be cut with the Oriental Land Company). Plus, times have changed; Japanese companies don’t need Western partnerships anymore.
I've heard it's incredible! It was literally next on my list and I had it downloaded on a streaming platform, but when I hopped countries the localisation changed and it was no longer available to me. :( - Dom
You made a great point, about how the culture returns things to it spot. It’s interesting how Universal Osaka vs Hollywood Mario Kart Que is an example of how different the culture is.
The Princess Mononoke area definitely could've more attractions from other Ghibli movies. The mostly empty garden is beautiful and can display some buildings and sculptures from The tale of princess Kaguya and My Neighbor Totoro. If they decide to build another area it should be placed right in the middle of the 20 minute walk, trying to hide the long distance.
I love how much Mononoke Village looked like a Japanese village in the countryside of Japan it was quite beautiful heck i just love the countryside of alot parts of the world especially the United Kingdom's countryside, Scotland's countryside, and Ireland's countryside all three of those are so beautiful oh yeah and my favorite Ghibli movie is spirited away which btw i first saw as a child and loved it immediately
Some of their shops are bizarrely detailed too. For every standard storefront in an Aeon, there’s a quirky Ghibli (Acorn-Whatever-It’s-Called) store like the open-air one in Kyoto.
Great & timely drop, I give this video a 10/10 Now let me share my attempts to get into this darn park. Last year I had bought tix but was too sick to go. It was not difficult to buy tix then but only half the park was open. Fast forward to this past Sunday, well, I had three devices ready & jumped right in ON TIME when the portal opened…. I was the 25000th person in line with a 75 minute wait! Eventually I got the tix but not on days I wanted. So the take away I can give you if you have read this far: 1. Be flexible with your days, you will need to adjust your travel itinerary if you are adamant you want to go to the park. 2. Read the term & conditions , pay attention to what you will need when buying the tix. 3. Good luck
I haven’t been to the park yet, but Princess Mononoke is my fav Ghibli film! I would love to have seen maybe a prop of San or Moro within the bushes. Maybe even ashitaka with Yakul in this distance to maintain that grand yet mystical feel of the movie. Small things like this could add more to the village imo, but nonetheless a spectacular looking park!
It's funny that you called out that one house as only being in the first few minutes of its movie, because the Princess Mononoke section is also focused around the first ~15 minutes of the film. They definitely could have done more with that area. I'm not really a Ghibli fan myself, but of those films that I've seen, I enjoyed Princess Mononoke the most. It's tonally different from many other Ghibli movies (darker and more serious/mature), which may account for the lower rating.
Hello! I enjoyed watching your video! Would you happen to know if wheeled luggage is allowed inside the park? Like a carry on small luggage just so I don’t carry a bag anymore? Thanks!
I think it’s cool, and I’d love to go. But I do wish there was a good dark ride or something of that variety. Maybe the tram from Castle in the Sky. It is well themed, but it really seems to lack the draw for those not familiar with Ghibli.
There are plenty of places in the states to make a Studio Ghibli Park but it would not be as interactive as the one in Japan because of the thievery ( everything would have to be nailed down ) . But if they did join up with Universal, that would be a Dream come true. Universal with its impressive attention to detail with themes like Harry Potter , Nintendo and all the other companies in Epic Universe. I wish it would come here , so fingers crossed 🤞. 😊
What a missed opportunity! But Miyazaki ,besides being a story telling genius, is a curmudgeon, hearing him talk is so depressing! Ghibli should have bought 'Huis Ten Bosch' *in Nagasaki (it was on sale) and fit it for Ghibli themes, easy fit.
I think people should be more open to the idea of theme parks without rides. It i still a themed park. A space for people to enjoy that has a specific design aesthetic. I've seen some amazing roadside attractions without rides that were more fun than some theme parks with tons of thrill rides and little theming.
Understanding the meaning of words seems like a crucial part of successfully existing on this planet at this time. I feel like people hear ‘theme park’ and they assume amusement park but ‘theme parks have a central theme that's more intricately designed than the themed areas of amusement parks’. like I don’t know it’s literally in the title… - No hate whatsoever to the video - my frustration lies with the masses 😂
We did! We went the day before Ghibli there but unfortunately we got rained out for most of our day. Thankfully we got a ride in on Hakugei and Steel Dragon before the rain set in!
Nothing says how unfamiliar with Studio Ghibli's work more than how you day Ghibli. Gib-Lee (according to Google, I could be wrong and just being an A-hole 😅) this park looks immaculate. Love the video guys fantastic as always.
It's Jib-lee, so maybe you're the one that isn't familiar. (The katakana read out ji-bu-ri.) EDIT: so, the pronunciation used in the video actually changes between jib-lee and gib-lee, so if you meant to say that gib-lee is wrong, I apologize.
This really isn’t for westerners with short attention spans and have a constant need to be entertained. The idea of this being a literal themed park is quite endearing in a world that has been used to Disney levels of overstimulation and prices. It helps if you have seen the films!
@@christianaguilera1469 lol did you even watch the review? they gave the most substantial areas a 9/10 and 10/10 and recommended people even remotely interested to go to Nagoya for it
For goodness sake, WATCH PRINCESS MONONOKE!
Its universally in the top 3 Ghibli films.
I came to the comments to say that too! Arguably as good as Spirited Away if not better depending on your taste.

They're very lucky to be nearby. It is amazing!

I think it will the long time viability of the park interesting. There’s only so many times you can look at something.
Ghibli is pronounced with italian spelling rules (hard g)
I was cringing so hard every time they say “GIBLI” 😭
There’s an H ffs, pronounce it!!!
Miyazaki himself said that it's a made-up word, and actually, it's a half between the 2 pronunciations. In Japan, it's more like Jih-bur-ee

I'm sorry, the park's "weenie"?
Disney lingo for “landmark”
A weenie is like a big landmark that draws your attention and also helps you navigate - eg tree of life, Cinderella’s castle etc

It's the park had rides that it would give off the wrong vibe.
JIBLI?

That's why reviews are important so people can see perspectives. If everyone has the same opinion, we wouldn't need different reviews
