  • I love this uptempo and dramatic performance by Shirley. “I Was Born To Sing Forever” was written exclusively for Shirley Bassey by Norman Newell. “An Audience with” is a British entertainment television show in which a host, usually a singer or comedian, perform for an invited audience of celebrity guests, interspersed with questions from the audience, in a light hearted revue/tribute style.

Saw her at Sheffield Arena 1995. We literally were the first to ring and book tickets (the way you ordered in those days). They asked where we would like and we got front row, facing her microphone. We were so close, we could smell her perfume. The fist song she sang was this and exactly the same as we see here. Unforgettable! 👌🏽🥇

The song was created by and for Dalida in 1983 and is called Mourir Sur Scene and then Dalida also sang her song in english with those same lyrics, Shirley Bassey covered the english version with the same lyrics later on...

It was actually written for Shirley, but I seem to remember there was a problem at the time regarding the label she was signed to not allowing her to record it. Yes Dalida did record it first but She is correct here in saying Norman wrote it for her originally. The lyrics were written in English first then translated to French.

@@ladyjennyanytime5195 the lyrics are totally different in french its not a translation and its not a french adaptation the song creators are french (the usual writers and song creators of Dalida, written by Michel Jouveaux and composed by Jeff Barnel) so the song was not created in english at first at all and it was released early 1983... Even after the success of the french version, the english version was then adapted and sang By Dalida a year later in 1984 and it was only then brought to Shirley and recorded by her...

This song was created for Dalida in 1983 : "Mourir sur scene" it means that it's just an english adaptation

@@ladyjennyanytime5195 no, Dalida recorded it first in 1983 and it was also composed for her by a friend and composer Jeff Barnel who had composed some of her hits. The lyrics were written in French originally by Michael Jouveaux and in 1984 Shirley Bassey adapted it in English. It must also be said that Dalida recorded in many languages and this song was no exception, she recorded it in English in 1984 too so it might have come from that before Dame Shirley Bassey adapted it.
