Syria has been comprehensively wrecked over at least a decade by the USA allied with Islamists. Under Assad - for all his repression - it was prosperous and had universal health care unlike the USA. Now its resources and its labour force will be viciously but profitably exploited by the West.

One thing that comes across, most of these Syrians appearing on these interviews seems to be very well educated, informed and optimistic. This makes me have hope that HTS will deliver for the Syrian people. Are there challenges yes. but if anyone can deliver. it is this group.

In 2012, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was then prime minister of Turkey, vowed that "soon we will pray in the city of Damascus with our brothers," he said referring to the fall of Bashar al-Assad's dictatorship. "He no longer has a future in Syria," he added. now 2024 is a reality

It's his past that haunts him this day. Unlike the Taliban, al qaeda has way more emotional baggage for the west. You can't deny that.
However, so long as Syria becomes and remains a liberal democracy and has a functioning constitution. Trust can be forged.
Just remember, one of Assad's allies (iran) decided to blend theocratic Islam with a republican government.
So he needs to tread carefully.
The west can't afford and will not tolerate a theocratic government of any kind.

The most important thing is to get “The Head” straightened out. Then “The Body” can follow. The central government has to announce and project a set of principles to guide the maturation of the government and the economy. What do Syrians stand for? Hold a constitutional convention? Setting the head on straight will tell the world that they should gamble their money to help, that all refugees can come back, that justice can be sought without a focus on revenge, etc. Got to get the mentality set straight. Look what South Africa did after apartheid there. One decent example.

And I can't even laugh in your face when you die and your Gods and divinities were all made up, but still you have the right to "judge" on tragedies from the point of view of "christians" or "muslims". Such an unfair world. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, talking about prophecies as if they had any meaning. If it is written somewhere that the US should be turned into a smoking crater and somebody actually does that, that's not deemed a prophecy, just terrorism right? Albaghdadi then announced the creation of ISIS .. Aljolani aka Ahmad alsharaa refused to join him .. and then he fought ISIS with other local rebels .. from day one in Syria he said he's national and don't want global jihad .. this was back in 2011 .. so it's not sudden .. we syrians know him
