  • Research-based practice in education is a hot topic but it's not as easy as copy-paste, education is contextual and what worked in one setting generally won't work directly in another. From our experience working in small schools and non-profits, it's usually the educators who end up responsible for adapting and adopting evidence-based approaches to their practice, on top of all their other responsibilities. Adoption can be especially difficult for educators of displaced people because a) they are often working under tight constraints, b) the ""adaptation gap"" is large since most evidence-based practices in education were developed for very different contexts, objectives and learners, and c) displaced learners are rarely (to our knowledge) included in the development of research questions and artifacts.
Are you a researcher interested in helping displaced learners? Or a school interested in exploring how to support displaced learners? Are you yourself displaced and interested in sharing your experience to help others? Join this workshop to meet your next collaborators! We'll set the stage with a brief introduction to Participatory Research and what you might expect from a Research-Practice partnership. Then we'll open the floor for participants to share their challenges, interests, and experience. Based on the themes coming out of this discussion, we'll create breakout rooms for you to meet others working towards the same goals. To wrap up, each group will share what they discussed and any plans to collaborate past the Summit.
    Speakers:
    Evan Cole
    Yoshi Malaise
