I can't believe this actually worked! I couldn't get my scanner/copier to scan it fully at a diagonal. I ended up copying it from 0-6inches then from 6 - 12 inches and cut and pasted together to make the marks. I used temporary glue to test and when it worked, I permanently glued it down. It was a brand new mat that wouldn't read. Thank you, Thank you!

Fantastically cleaver. These mats are so expensive and this application can be done on a more economical cricket option it would bet. Thank you for sharing your brilliance!

Thank you very much for this brilliant idea. I purchased the wrong 12x24 mat for my SDX 1500. I downloaded a picture from the internet showing the code from a DX mat. I printed it and applied it according to your directions and I salvaged the mat. Excellent.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is the easiest way yet! Unfortunately, I have a tremor and it makes everything that little bit harder (2nd time of writing this because I accidentally deleted it, aka tremor). I desperately needed a scanning mat as my tacky mats were too marked for scanning and I needed it yesterday, so having found your video I photocopied the DX lighter tack mat (less registration points) onto copier paper. cut it out as straight as I could (turned out not to be that straight, aka tremor). Lined it up against my CM900 scanning mat and realised I could see right through it which meant that I could line it up precisely with the black arrow and the top of the mat and didn't really need to do anything else except glue it down and viola, it worked, even with a somewhat wavy cut line. What I did forget however, was to add the extra bit at the bottom (as per your next video) 😄 Sorted now though. Thank you again.

Just a thought on copying top and bottom of mat if you do not have a large printer, you can probably get copies ready cut by getting an old u/s mat cut off top and bottom to include registrations tack them vertically to a good mat and run through your machine using draw tools and pens to reproduce copies for use on old mats, great video thank you.

I also have all sorts of mats for the CM series, including both size scanning mats. I haven't worked on the 12x24 mat yet, but on the 12x12, the only thing needed to recognize the mat is the arrow and the top 4 squares - 3 on the left of the arrow and 1 on the right. I noticed this after looking at images of the mat on Google. I cut mine out of vinyl, and also covered the black wide area on top, but I'm not sure if the latter is necessary. Thanks for your idea!!

Thanks for the idea. I copied a picture of the 24 inch mat header code, as I purchased the wrong mat also, and used my Scan N Cut SDX 125 to draw it out on paper. I taped the made up header code over the wrong header code on my 12 x 24 mat but I could not get it to work doing all sorts of picture mods. I had aligned the code with the measurement bar at the top of the grid but didn't really notice that the wrongly purchased 12 x 24 mat had a slightly longer plastic top. I just didn't realize that the machine sees the very top of the mat first then the code after. After I cut the plastic excess on top It then loaded into the machine just fine. I used it to draw and it did just fine. But when I went to cut the design, I had made, the machine could not get the test depth right due to the taped on paper header top being slightly thicker. What I think I will do for this is remove the original printing at the top with some very fine sandpaper and print on the new code with a felt pen right on the plastic top.

great vid, i ordered a sdx225 and had it shipped,i also purchased 12x24 scanning mat,I get the machine hooked up ,it displayed mat not reconized,,well to make a looong storey short, the mat turned out to be for a cm series scan n cut,,so not compatible, also it has round registration dots on top.so I copied 1 of my tacky mats, taped paper to top,and it loaded..but it would only scan 12x12, I see the 12x24 scan mats have 4 or 5 square dots on top.

Thank you SO MUCH for this, Anne! :) I'm not sure if you have a Hobby Lobby where you are, but they do sell very inexpensive mats that are Cricut and Silhouette compatible (sometimes on sale - two mats for $20!) - I wonder if this trick would work on mats that are NOT Scan N Cut original mats - Any of my American friends try this on such?

The cricut ones are not long and wide enough, but I have cut out the center of them and glues them onto old scan n cut mats instead of resticking with glue.

This hack is great. U get to use your old mats with the new registration marks of the SDX. My hack is to use cricut mats on new mats to keep the expensive SDX mats like new. Just place the cricut mat right below the registration marks of the mat. The machine will scan in and therefore the cheaper mats get all the cut marks. It's more cost effective to replace with other mats than to buy new expensive SDX mats.
