I like that they changed this scene. Armie and Timmy improvised a lot and made it their own. The final result is so much better, much more room for viewer's interpretation of what goes through the characters' minds.
This is the most beautiful piece I have ever read of two people in love and consummating that love. And totally human. I have read the book and seen the film and never heard this scene described this way.... so raw and honest and natural. I am so glad someone found this early script.... I positively love it, and love Elio & Oliver. Timmy & Armie - if you ever read these comments, please know how much we all LOVE your portrayals of Elio & Oliver!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
OMG : Elio loves Oliver soooo much. I think they would have loved each other even if either of them was of a different gender. Their love is so full and pure and transcends everything- gay, straight, curved, etc. What a brilliant piece of literature.
This would have been amazing on screen, maybe not that rough but this love scene was definitely missing, it would have made the movie 10/10. I mean, how is there an explicit sex scene with Marzia, but not an explicit passionate love/sex scene with the TWO MAIN CHARACTERS?
Tomás León I agree with you on this one - especially as to how it was described in the book. If it was filmed, it would’ve made the story of their growing love for each other really come to life
Armie (Oliver’s actor) said in an interview that he didn’t want to show to much nudity because he was scared that when his daughter is older people would print out photos of him nude and make fun of her
@@keiraashton5773 Well, they could use a stuntman or something, it's not the first time. But nudity is not the point, because they actually kinda did show some ass. I'm talking about an explicit sex scene, with Marzia happened but not with the main characters, who were banging multiple times.
@@tomasleon3148 I agree totally. There was a clear double-standard in having an explicit scene with Marzia, but not Oliver. It undermines the importance of the scene with Marzia and women's sexuality in general by treating it differently.
Andre Aciman deserves a mention here for putting into words a scene that leaves us wishing we were either if the boys. I wish my first time had been so cute.
This was probably what James ivory was talking about in an interview when he was discussing that's there's a lot of revisions on his screen play due to the contract clauses for both Timmy and armie , either they shoot the scene where oliver says "off!off!" or they didn't!in the movie it cut to the famous tree!..😎😁 but you can hear something was still happening! This first draft ..It's more graphic than the final product!...😎
@@kansasgirl8371 But I don't think if it happens it'll take that long, it seems like they could be filming next year or something. I remember the director wanting the sequel for 2020, actually. He said something about continuing the story 5-6 years later since the call. And by that, he also said Timothée would be 23-24 by the time they film, same age Elio six years later and Armie in his 30s already... Something along those lines.
@@tomasleon3148 I hope you're right about 2020. As long as they maintain the integrity and art of the first movie, I'll be happy. In an interview, Luca Guaragnino said he didn't want to make "Godfather III" so I know he'll be careful with the film. It would be wonderful if Andre Aciman would write the screenplay.
@@kansasgirl8371 Well, actually I read a couple of days ago that Luca convinced Andre Aciman to join the sequel and work on it. So, hopefully it's gonna be good. I think they're going in a different direction from the book, because I think Guaragnino wants to pair them again and not just a casual reunion between them. He said something about traveling the world together, but this time Elio is with Marzia in a serious relationship and Oliver married with kids. He mentioned AIDS aswell (hopefully none of them get ill because of it. I don't want another tragic story a la Brokeback Mountain, that would be devastating). Who knows, if they really do it I just hope it's not with a tragic ending, I can live with a sadder story throughout the movie IF they end up together or in the best terms possible. I mean, they deserve it.
@@tomasleon3148 Fascinating!!!! I agree with you that this should not include an AIDS plot, unless they just express the fear and climate of AIDS in the 80's.

This scene always reminds me of something in my life that hasn't even happened yet.

I believe they recorded the sex scene. However, for some reason, Luca thought it was best to cut out and show a tree insteas (LOL).

Yes please was improvised!😎
You know what - I love the midnight scene in the film, and yet, I LOVE this version of the midnight scene ♥️
I wish the movie had kept, "you sure you want this?" Always a need for more affirmative consent in film.
This scene is directly from the book.
Where’s “you’ll kill me if you stop’ lol
I know it's late but here it goes ! I think it was replace to "you'll kill me if you do that!!"when Oliver was massaging elios feet,.
Keeps pulling be back to their story.... the feelings when I first saw the movie.. 😩😩😩😢

Pueden pasar los años pero seguimos esperando más Oliver y Elio. Más Armie y Timmy
Sometimes I'm angry at them cuz they didn't film all of this. I'm dying too see it. Also "They fuck."
Los amo. Tienen que volver! 🙏

Watch the film and you'll find there's a lot of director's editing but also brilliantly improvised moments from Armie and Timmy.
