i love how pretty much all the historical dice, despite their technical imperfection were mostly friendlier to the color-blind and or visually impaired people than modern fancy dice. our group is currently repainting or modding with stickers all the fancy dice we got second-hand and very cheap, probably for the very same reasons )
personally, i do love me some fancy dice, but not if these will slow down the game or look unbalanced

the other thing is that recently, as gamers, we fortunately have an option to choose between balanced/easy-to-read and possibly unbalanced but fancy looking, complex designs. A lot of people who buy dice will never use them to play - they just want to admire them. And we, as company, always try to satisfy both of these two groups :)

@@qworkshop_dice wow, i didn't even think about the collectors. you guys are cool and know what you're doing lol. i just wish shopping for fancy but balanced and readable dice would be made easier with some kind of keywords / tags / categories. my current rule of thumb is not bothering with checking out dice if i can't make out the numbers looking at the picture, but, oh, boy, how much time i did waste scrolling past them during my first ever online dice hunt

Gambling, particularly in the form of Pacheesi (twenty fiver), the precursor to Ludo plays a very important role in Indic mythology.
In the Mahabharat 5 demi god princes gamble with their 100 prince cousins, and end up losing everything. Among other things.
It later developed to use 2 cuboidal 4Ds.
In classical India dice was legally regulated at casinos or state produced.
Or atleast so was recommended by Arthashatra.

Thank you for comment! The Mahabharata story is a great example of how gambling played a significant role in mythology, with high stakes and dramatic consequences. The detail about the shift to cuboidal dice and state-regulated casinos in classical India is also interesting. It shows how gambling was a prevalent activity, even with attempts to manage it.

You forgot about the evolution of Zocchi dice, lol.

It is not we forgot. From the start we just wanted to make this movie a general, SHORT version of dice history that will show where do they come from and how were they used throughout centuries. We’ve deliberately avoided certain topics as this would make this material way too long. As you probably noticed we’ve barely touched the recent (XX century) history of dice, wargaming, RPGs etc. which is ofc very fascinating and sounds like a good idea for one of the future works on the channel. Thanks for your feedback !

Dice create luck and equality for different players. If you a group of people of very different skills levels, choose a dice game.

agreed! And on top of that - they add so much tension and emotions to the game
