The UK has some amazing comedians these days. Nothing against them - I just think the 60’s & 70’s were a golden age with many brilliant actor/comedians. We are blessed to have these videos.
"You save the world; I'll take care of the built-in cupboards." I saw this show on Broadway and laughed so hard my face hurt, but I have never seen anyone be as convulsed with laughter as the man sitting next to me. And to this day I can't hear (or even think) the word "myrrh" without hearing it in my head the way they said it.
amazing, so far ahead of its time, and holds up beautifully over 50 years later, a classic. and their ability to do live stage work with such heavy dialogue, in one take... aside from the writing of their own material, fresh and far reaching... acting on par with actors in plays, who many consider the best in the biz...
I know this isn't improv, because of how well paced it is, and how perfect some of the lines are, but wow, they do a wonderful job of making it feel like a conversation is happening real time.
Peter Cook deserves an Oscar from outer space. I love wherever he gets his ideas from. Ahasuerus feeds, wandering, usually on less nutritious nonsense. But I forget myself, the way to eternal one-sense is through the hoooo.
Absolutely brilliant! There is nothing like this a round these days! Peter Cook, changes the script to try and get Dudley Moore to corpse, which he tried to do on every sketch they performed together!
Obscure? Obscure? Less known outside the UK than inside, maybe, but well known here along with the likes of Tony Hancock, Spike Milligan, Monty Python etc.
I love comedies and so is my family loves comedies!! Funniest Stuff Ever!! OMG, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore using a sketch for comedy fans Damographics, Thank you for posting comedies
@@tedgrant2 Well, whatevs. - It's not fake. One can tell from the nature of the larfs, for one thing, w/ all due respect. sir. - Anyway, keep well , safe and have a great year, etc.
@NorwegianRaider - I edited that bit out. I had to fit it into 10 minutes so i trimmed it a bit. See the link to the full version in my post comments above :)
Daft humour at its most brilliant! I was waiting for Dud to collapse laughing - but somehow he managed to stay straight-faced. Unless of course it's been edited out?
People usually fry themselves because they don't believe "The truth" that Jesus is the truth But yes this is very funny ! John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Don't get "fried" believe it! he's true!
Actually, Woody Allen has made some funny Jesus jokes. I’m a “religious person,” saved by Christ. I find nothing offensive in this clever and funny sketch. Then again, I’m not American.
"The most unabidable fields." I feel that. I am unabideded by my fields. I look back on them, in hopes they might grow rings. They never do. I eat them. I'm so tired of my eternal hunger I grow rings and eat my supposed father. He never looked back on Peter, and so he never was mine. All the better reason to grow rings.
My theory is that all great comedians are just very good actors. They are totally believable; they become real people. There is a lot of truth in comedy. That is why it is so popular. The truth makes you laugh. Comedy mocks serious things and the superficiality of everyday life.
It would be great to have a montage of Pete & Dud, Monty Python, Spike Milligan & a few others putting together their collective Religious gags and rep all on one video.😆
“...in His capacity as godfather.” Very clever and naturally funny. They couldn’t find the truth of Christ. Peter died in “despair”, as he described his life.
Don't think so - it's nothing like any portion of THE LIFE OF BRIAN - and I've read the books on how THE LIFE OF BRIAN came about and you are way off... If anything it almost certainly inspired the PHILOSPHERS FOOTBALL MATCH which was a sketch on M.P.F.C.
Thank fuck the Aussies at least know when to keep classic genius comedy or this stuff would be lost. Definitely a sketch that must have influenced the Pythons that came later. Peter Cook is a legend!
This is just a comic sketch, funny ,silly ....a parody, quite innocent really (compare it to D+C) so why all the needle ? pete and dud would be laughing their balls off, calling you a c... lol
I saw them do this live on stage and the “interview” was split up by video of other interviews such as the woman who ran the B&B (was it the “Dead Sea View?”) where Jesus stayed with his 12 friends she used to do sandwiches for.
Dudley could have been given a little beard to just top it off, but otherwise perfect. If you look at his facial expression, the furrows and lines, the change of shape of the mouth, he really is inhabiting someone else. In much the same way that Peter did when he became the 'football manager' on the Clive Anderson show, just a couple of years before he died.

This is amazing! I've been a Pete n Dud fan for years and only just discovered this. Bloody Brilliant!!
I've never seen it before either.😂
Jimmy Christ 😂😂😂 Jesus you save the world. I will take care of the build in cupboards. Truly classic.
Peter Cook 17 November 1937 - 9 January 1995 and Dudley Moore 19 April 1935 - 27 March 2002 thank you gentlemen for the lovely pressies.
dudley moore a brilliant pianist so talented yeah

When my American ear misses something, I put on the closed captions, but they are often off the wall. This is the best Pete & Dud I've seen.
"Well, it's only human, int it?" What a great line, in a sketch full of them.
a trick : watch movies at Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Elon Imran definitely, I've been watching on Flixzone for years myself :)
Superb unbeatable comedy. Love them both, sheer genius
The line "It's an unbelievable story" goes right over the audience's heads.
"...incredible." 😀
@@mynameisGail
Presumptuous? Arrogant? Thick? Imply?
What a script ... absolutely hysterical ... brilliant comedians glue it perfectly !!!
"Me and the lads was abiding in the fields". Cracking :D
“From what you’ve told me it’s an unbelievable story...”
One of my favourite sketches from these two.
I know this isn't improv, because of how well paced it is, and how perfect some of the lines are, but wow, they do a wonderful job of making it feel like a conversation is happening real time.
This is too hilarious the greatest comedy duo ever!!!
A bit dull (Dudley, you might say)!
8:22 As a life-long atheist, it's a pleasure to hear the line: "From what you've told me, it's an unbelievable story." Well done Pete and Dud.
It's incredible.
wonderful so original.
Peter Cook deserves an Oscar from outer space. I love wherever he gets his ideas from. Ahasuerus feeds, wandering, usually on less nutritious nonsense. But I forget myself, the way to eternal one-sense is through the hoooo.
This sketch was featured in their Behind The Fridge revue which I went to see twice at London’s Cambridge Theatre in 1973.
U so luuuuckyyyyyyy !❤
Thanks for that!❤
Saw this in ‘73, with a gorgeous blonde, we went by taxi and listened to an 8track Dark Side of the Moon, absolute heaven ♥️
Pete and Dud, aka Clive and Derrick - brilliant comedians. We miss them.

1:06 "In me own words". . . "I can't abide these fields - they are unabideable fields" (1:15) Superb.
These must be the greatest comedians of all time,50 years on all their comedy is as currant and funny as the day it was made
Still raisin laughs

BRILLIANT COMEDY---PANT SPLITTING STUFF;

i'm from the uk and this certainly ain't obscure here, it's classic comedy

Sheer Brilliance.
I'm gonna watch it again, because I enjoyed the rapturous applause.
The phony laugh track, not a live audience.spoils it for me. It was popular back then and saved money I suppose.

Great sketch though.
I'm going to watch it again, now.
Thanks for the reminder.
It’s not a fake laugh track.

Brilliant comedy from genius's.

"Little Jimmy christ" lmao

Thing is he did actually have a brother called St James the Less...
Timeless comedy
No American comedian would have the guts to do that sketch. The religious people would fry them.
bashbrannigan f
George Carlin?
People usually fry themselves because they don't believe "The truth" that Jesus is the truth But yes this is very funny !

Todays so called comics could learn a lot from these two.

At 2:57 Cook does a bit of A Stanley Unwin.
Puts my religious instructions into focus.

‘Total Shock’
I really laughed at that. The earnest look on his face.
Me too !!! That one gets me every time
Can't say how funny these two were, insufficient vocabulary.
You can see the early signs of ‘The Life Of Brian… ‘ here… Peter Cook knew John Cleese and Michael Palin .. but could be wrong..
3:15 at Galilee
The best line is missing. Something along the lines of:
- ‘Ere, what are those rams doing?
- Oh, sorry. I’ll buy the next herd from Gomorrah...

I wonder if this inspired 'Life of Brian'?
John Cleese borrowed their "Frog & Peach" sketch for Fawlty Towers, so it wouldn't surprise me if Monty Python were influenced by this sketch.
Yep, definitely mate.
Monty Python stood on the shoulders of giants. Pete & Dud, the Goons, others...Python would be the first to acknowledge their heritage.
