Lol when I was in school and I’m art class, I always had to ask someone what colours were which so I could get the right shading.

As skilled readers, we apparently have automatic reading routines that allow us to take shortcuts, in terms of processing what we read. So it is difficult to suppress these well-practiced routines from execution. That is why it might have been difficult to separate the actual word from its colour. Because we're accustomed to processing *words* and not necessarily the colours they're written in.
Hope this makes sense.✨
So if you had some difficulties, that doesn't mean your brain is slow. It's just that, it can very difficult to prevent your reading routine from execution.
