If you have a look at the Green line Luas, speeds are quicker once it leaves the city centre. The Red Cow section proves a point - once it passes the (excessive) restriction over the depot points, it takes off. I take your point about the speed - you could also argue that both Luas lines actually *move* people when much of Dublin's traffic is actually sitting still in constant peak-hour gridlock.
Thanks for your comment - I posted the Red Cow Luas clip as a fast(!) response. Please rate my video if you haven't already done so (remember, you're rating the film, not the Luas!). While Luas units were struck by vehicles in the first year of operation (I heard of at least 5 accidents, often involving white van drivers!), none were toppled to my knowledge, nor were any Luas staff of passengers seriously injured.
I'm from Belfast but I've got quite a few friends and relatives from Dublin who curse the Luas all the time. Is it true some have toppled over at times? I thought I would've heard on the news, but he claims its true. Judging by your video, I would go nuts sitting on that thing knowing I was going THAT slow in a city the size of Dublin!!!
If they allowed the Luas drivers to trigger the traffic lights themselves (rather than wait for the ponderous automatic system which is too considerate to other road users), it would be far quicker. They discouraged the drivers from this practice in the early days since it caused even more gridlock for everyone else!
I'm not trying to make an exciting vid but record a moment in time. Besides, my 14 subscribers and 3 people who left comments might disagree with you... And thanks for the comment - it all helps to boost my traffic! PJD

It's a bit pointless alright - the terminus serves the national/local rail network and the next stop serves the national bus terminus.

Ah c'mon - it's Ireland. We do't do 'hurry'...
Thanks for your comment and all the best,
