Rio Tinto & the abandoned city Granadilla-Dutchoverlanders living & travelling in a pickupcamper

In this movie we visited Rio Tinto, an old mining city where we were lucky to get the chance of riding an old steam engine from 1875. With really bright colours and a lot of historical equipment it was a nice place to make a movie. We also visited the abandoned city of Granadilla next to a big reservoir. In 1955 the build a dam to fill up the reservoir to generate hydro electric power. In that time they thought that the village would be swallowed by the water and therefore the inhabitants moved away to build an new village. After flooding the reservoir Granadilla didn’t submerge below the water, it just perfectly is above the huge reservoir. You can visit the village witch they partially renovated and is currently inhabited by students who live there and grow their own vegetables, have live stock etc. It gives you a real good look in the past of how life was in Granadilla.
En esta película visitamos Rio Tinto, una antigua ciudad minera donde tuvimos la suerte de montar una vieja máquina de vapor desde 1875. Con colores realmente brillantes y mucho equipo histórico, era un buen lugar para hacer una película. También visitamos la ciudad abandonada de Granadilla junto a un gran embalse. En 1955 construyeron una presa para llenar el depósito para generar energía hidroeléctrica. En ese momento pensaron que el pueblo sería tragado por el agua y, por lo tanto, los habitantes se mudaron para construir un nuevo pueblo. Después de inundar el embalse, Granadilla no se sumergió debajo del agua, sino que está perfectamente por encima del enorme embalse. Puede visitar a la bruja del pueblo que renovaron parcialmente y actualmente está habitada por estudiantes que viven allí y cultivan sus propias verduras, tienen ganado, etc. Le da una buena visión del pasado de cómo era la vida en Granadilla.
