- Originally I was going to make a more focused video about characters changing over different soul calibur installments, but Aris dropped his exploration of the old games. An appropriate video to post before the SC6 Beta!
-- Watch live @ / avoidingthepuddle
SCIII was my first SC game as a kid. I blame this game for making me a teets man
I blame SoulCalibur for my skirt fetish namely Sophitia ;)
I also blame SC1 for my lingerie fetish (Ivy).
ain't nothing to be sorry about being a titty warrior
I blame this game for my Voldo fetish
@... Voldo has that effect on stoners like you and arnis
My favorite feature of SC3 is when the games erases your save for no reason, and you lose all of your progress.
I've owned this game a few different times in my life and that's never happened to me once. You must have some shitty luck.
Man you got that shit right. I think I had corrupted data at least 3 times I forgot all about that
I remember it erased all my data on my entire memory card had no idea why.......
It was a big and noted problem back then that Namco themselves acknowledged. You have extraordinary luck or didn't play that much.
Namco acknowledged that and sent out a batch of patched copies three months after its initial release. Been playing with auto save on for more than two months, and not once did my save data get erased.
Half of this video is Aris losing his train of thought and then trying to remember what he was talking about
That's him in like every video haha
So a normal video?
LMAO
Every stream
Im a competitive Tekken player and played every soul calibur game and this is my favourite. It was just so much fun. It might be flawed on a super high level but playing casuals and chronicles of the sword was so cool. Also it had Setsuka and thats a huge plus.
This is the first soul caliber game I could beat Rtd in...
Does Aris always stream from a nuclear reactor?
Yes
Head of security at sector 7 GG
He eats so much sports and agua de caca that he glows in the dark.
no questions bytch
Lost tapes and even more lost hair
man I miss the _butthash Jack Miller Fox 30 News_
he gets the bug at 59:56 finally
Thank youu
Fucking thank you. Lol this stoner just cant keep his head straight
For competitive reasons I hate it. But for presentation, sound design (OST) and entertainment reasons I love it.
And to be honest, If somebody told me if I'd rather get SC4 and SC5 both or SC3, I would've gotten SC3 IMMEDIATELY.
You're 100% right. Everyone gets all butthurt over "muh tournament play" but a console game is just that, a console game. And if a console game has bad single player and nothing to do but practice for online or play online, non-serious fighting game players are not going to buy it. And if they don't buy it, there goes a good 75% of your playerbase, which means less money and less interest. Less money to give out and plan official tournaments, less money coming in from those tournaments because the interest isn't there and nobody is watching/going there to buy merch because 75% of your view base doesn't like the game and doesn't care about watching. I suck a MK, don't know why, I just do, but I love the game itself because it's interesting and offers me a little more to do than practice. And so I watch most of the tournaments every year, if they charged for access to the stream I probably still would. It's important to have a large base of players that love your game, even if most of them aren't tournament players.
Competitive-wise, this game was a mess. Xianghua was BUSTED. From a casual/single-player perspective, it's an absolute masterpiece. Gigantic roster for a 3D PS2 era fighting game (the main cast plus a whole load of extra characters, albeit with smaller movesets). A huge selection of stages and all of them are gorgeous, this has to be one of the games that pushed the PS2 hardware to its limits. A stunning and epic music score, especially Healing Winds, I'd spend hours in the Museum just listening to that track. Tales of Souls is the best story mode of any fighting game ever (screw NRS and their "cinematic" story modes), a choose-your-own-path adventure with so many hidden boss fights and paths to take. Chronicles of the Sword was an entire game in of itself. On top of all that, you had the Tournament League, Survival, Time Attack, an entire Challenge mode, Museum, AND Create-A-Soul with surprisingly deep customization for the time. This game had everything you could want in a fighting game. Namco put their heart and soul (pun not intended) into this game and it really showed. A SC game would never have this much content ever again.
20:36
Can someone clip that stroke? I rate that 5 seizure salads out of 5
what the actual fuck? Aris is broken robot. OMEGALUL
25:28 I really love how Aris handled this situation
Really?? It seemed mean lol
that kind of donate always makes things so awkward
@@sowhazupguyAris is right. The guy could have just said thank you. He really didn't add anything by trauma dumping on him and 3k randoms
@@sowhazupguybro donated the bare minimum to trauma dump with a paragraph donation.
Yeah I hate when viewers trauma dump info to a streamer. You watch a stream to have fun, not to talk about sad/traumatic stuff
Bamco CEOs Post SC3: "Hey, you know what'd really improve this franchise? *puts* *up* *a* *picture* *of* *Yoda* *on* *the* *screen*
To be fair that did make calibur sell more. fuck yoda tho.
Keeping long running series fresh & exciting with each installment ain't easy bruh.
You have to convince publishers & board execs your game is worth funding again & will exceed past sales.
You also gotta bring something new to the table so fans don't feel its just the same old same old. But at the same time make sure the new changes don't alienate long time fans. People hate change, to a large degree but also won't feel so inclined to buy your new sequel if its mostly the same as the previous entry.
The problem with Yoda is hitbox. They could've stopped at Darth Vader and Forced Unleashed kid.
Granted, I'm an evil man and I love playing Yoda.
To be fair that could have been good but it was handled badly
Daughter and husband
Cervantes is an alabama pirate?
Incest
I mean daughter and uhh...son
Innacouse, with yo daughtah?
I will get shit for saying it, but this is my favorite one. Glitches, balance and bugs aside I do like the game collect-a-thon lol. Its a guilty pleasure
MiniJaguar no I don’t think you will or I hope you don’t cause a lot of people myself included have a lot of fond memories w it haha. Unfortunately as I grew up I realized it probably isn’t too good but is def a guilty pleasure
I didn't enjoy SC4 at all. And I wish tekken had character creation mode.
I loved the shit out of SC3 and I have being a big fan of the series, not too much of 4 & V.
Shaman Xeed not even man S4 is the worst 1, 5 was taking it back to the right direction. I think it's the second best in the series no contest
You’re not alone, this is also my favourite in the series, with 2 being a close second. I’d actually probably call it my favourite fighting game of all time, though I know that’d be quite a stretch for most people.
27:20 when he actually explains why it sucks
This game is the one that got me into the soul caliber franchise, so I have that nostalgic love of it. Also during this time I had no idea that the fgc existed, so didn't even know about the competitive flaws until about 8 or 9 years ago when I did discover the fgc.
this game had the sickest secret boss tho
20:36 My jaw hurt from laughing, Aris.exe has stopped working
I'm glad he corrected himself when he said the people who like this game are ill-informed.
There's a huge difference between enthusiasts and casuals.
Each of those types of players enjoy certain games for different reasons, and both of them have to be catered to, and neither of them are wrong about what's good and bad about the game.
Yeah, I was about to comment the same thing because I love SC3 because I'm not a competitive player. I loved the arcade modes, the story mode, the Creation Suite and its story mode, etc. IT was just tons of fun for me.
Well said and I agree.
Most people aren’t competitive players. Some of us just like to play for fun.
Yep.
I think competitive (tournament level) players are the minority.
Especially when 3 was released; 2005? The number of people who are going to be playing this competitively at that time would be absolutely vanishingly small.
I might go as far as to say that Soul Calibur is only now starting to get the chance for widespread adoption on a competitive level with the release of 6. IV and V had online for sure, but those games were pretty jank as far as I've heard.
Mother and Daughter always gets me
SCII still had the best intro imo, the lore is so well told without dialogue.
Aris forgetting what he's talking about for 2 hours... no pants you shouldn't have
20:36 dude lay off the butthash
23:19 "this game has- it just screams....
BUTT HASH"
"This game, it just screams..." BUTT HASH
Few things scratch my nostalgia itch like listening to Aris talk about soul Calibur
Also that glitch you're mentioning I think I did it by accident one time when I grabbed Setsuka and the model did this weird inversion s*** and flew out of the ring 😆
that little cherry blossom leaf at the bottom right corner of 31:49 intrigued me for some reason. It's probably the butthash talking but that was a nice little detail to have on that stage. I didn't know they blew in the wind like that after hitting the floor.
Daamn, didn't know Aris' dad works at Nintendo. That's mad hype, dude.
27:50 Holy shit i laughed so fucking hard at this.
I TRIED THOUGH, Just his reaction due to the predictability I just couldn't.
Jokes aside though, I'm glad aris did in fact split the type of players cuz on the other side SC3 it's in fact the best game of the series.
I actually had the arcade version of the game that had some of those glitches fixed.
This is why I really loved the game personally. And I didn't even knew that on fact it was the arcade version.
Bless you nopants for uploading this. Ive waited so long
1:11:00 I was also devastated by the Voldo nerfs. Getting stuck in blind stance was brutal
For anybody watching somebody made a fan patch for this game that adds all of the SC3: Arcade Edition fixes and content and cleans up some blurriness too I think. This game is really worth playing if you aren't a Soul Calibur expert.
Unfortunately this is it's not true . I download the game and it didn't have any of the arcade edition moves and changes..
@@etherealsoul1773 then you downloaded something else. Look up "Soul Calibur III: Definitive Edition 1.20", it has all the fixes of Arcade Edition and even some extra ones.
Can’t wait to see the SCVI beta stream.
Aris is on his way to looking like MK1 Shang Tsung
I really do hope they give us SC3AE HD Online (like what they did with SC2) one day. Like many other 'casuals' it was my favorite SC game back in the day and it also introduced me to my favorite character (Setsuka) but I'd really like the chance to play a more polished version of the game, and with online as well.
I loved Soul Calibur 3! thank N0pants for the upload, great to see Aris' perspective
Tira is the queen of the arena.
The 3 ninjas 2 straight to VHS analogy nearly made me spit my coffee out laughing. 3 ninjas was the hypest thing ever though, I loved that film when I was a kid.
Sc3 this is my favourite
Unpopular opinion: I love singleplayer content in fighting games.
Bite me.
Tommy
Not really unpopular for a while man. People’s main complaints at tekken 7 release was that it lacked training and simple single player stuff tekken 6 had. People love MKs single player stuff since it’s got many things going for it.
Sure there has been a recent trend of “lol who cares about single player” buts that only for tournament die hards. People are really excited for soul calibur 6s single player content because it looks reminiscent of 2-3 single player. You’re not in the minority
Specter _Of _The Stars I could've never said it better myself, you've explained my thoughts exactly.
Thank you, good sir. :)
nopants almost got shot
Not an unpopular opinion, same situation for me.
the thing is about tekken single player it might have not been an issue if the ai didnt suck even on ultra hard
16x9 requests im dead lmfao
Aris is a walking SoulCalibur encyclopedia
"this game just screams... butthash"
wish that i haven't missed out on times when Aris was passionate about fighting games, sounds like golden era
20:34 yep.. definitely stoned on this stream.
I feel like V was the worst because they changed the gameplay and mechanics, they dumbed it down so much not only were characters removed but they stripped so many moves smh I’ve been playing since II as a kid but IV was my favorite gameplay wise
GrimangelX4 Idc what you say lol SCV was not the deepest when you’re a Siegfried main for example you realize that he can’t do shit compared to the other games. V has the weakest, simplest, most dumbed down versions of all the characters it’s just trash. On top of removing and replacing old characters with new ones, AND having a weak one sided story mode while leaving the rest of the cast in the dark it’s like they sacrificed the heart of Soul Calibur. They took away core mechanics of the game. They made everything meter based, guard impact took skill and timing, now it’s a joke. They just made it easier for noobs to play NOW you got people spamming reversal edge in VI 😒 The only good thing about V is character creation, Patroklos and Zwei but you’re entitled to your opinion. I respect it 🤷🏾♂️
GrimangelX4 Agreed 😌
Actualy SCIII was a great game in many regards and I will also add that it was the last SC game that had some effort put into it. We could say it was the last Soul Calibur with an actual Soul in it. The thing that destroyed it was Bamco's awful idea to make an experiment on this game, which led not only to VC which should never exist (although some people made some really creative stuff with variable cancel) but also to God awful balance. Then it all went downhill because Bamco treated the series as an unloved child since then
SCIII was THE GAME that started me on the fighting game genre. Back then i used to hate tekken because movement felt janky, and i hated street fighter because i didnt know how to handle spamming. Fighting games were not fun for me.
SCIII's character creation and Chronicles of the Sword are responsible for me playing this game pretty much continuously for 2 to 3 years. It may be shit for high level competitive gaming, but the sheer amount and variety of content it offers is UNMATCHED, and it definitely nurtured my appreciation for the genre.
It was only by the time SFIV came out with its onlineliness that I came back to fighting games, because FINALLY i had half decent people I could play against, not just my neighbors that didnt even play the goddamn game.
True story, I love sc3 and sc5
“Tutorial? Tekken 7 doesn’t even have this” lmao
15:52 The way he snapped his head to the screen lmao
Man it was kind of badass how Voldo would run up walls in mantis in SC3. I would fucking kill to have that in 6.
Simply mentioning Aladdin's Castle and Tilt got me so fucking nostalgic.
The start of the fall of Soul Caliper.
2:18:50 to sum it up
this is difficult to hear cause this was probably my fav sc game, mostly because the soundtrack was so sick.
lol same this is my favorite soul calibur by far
tbh sc3 is what got me into the franchise as a casual and eventually started taking the game seriously in 4,5 and soon 6
I personally love all aspect of Soul Calibur III, but I can see where like there are certain competitive things that make this something people don't like. But seeing as this game is old now, I suppose it doesn't matter much anymore.
Personally though, I'd play in a tournament for this if one happened in this day and age.
lord n0pants please ask lord aris to teach us how to cancel sneezes
"Bunghole Strombosis" XD
I don’t get the hate for this game. I started with sc2 but I still prefer this because there was just so much to do and unlock. Most games now don’t have even a third of what this had.
It was just bugged to hell which made it unviable competitively. Think of it like Smash Brawl. Shit game competitively but super fun single player.
Shaman Xeed but it's also what keeps the game alive after a matter of weeks
Aris going into detail and/or ranting about fighting games with his experience, personal perspective combined with facts and demonstrations never gets old. So insightful. You learn a lot and remember a lot of what you forgot too. Even get corrected on things you thought you knew correctly.
This could be edited down to a concise review of the game. Aris hella knows what he's talking about
I loved this game. This was during a time BEFORE tournament players became more well known to the general gaming public thanks to sites like Twitch and RUclips. Nobody knew what a "casual" was back then. Online gaming for consoles was a rarity. Usually shooters only got that shit. We were ignorantly blissful back than. Good times.
oh my god i was in tears at 20:35
I still want the create a soul movesets from this game back in SC6. They could copy and paste them over and I'd still love it.
Still my fave SC game even to this day
Am I the only one who loves Yoshimitsu’s eng voice in this game? It’s like my favorite of all SC games. Design was pretty nice too, especially the 1P.
My uni bar had a cab of arcade edition and I had a blast playing it with my friends.
18:47 Aris' face XD
soul edge intro is the best... that music man.
I love soul caliber 3. Was my first SC I played as a kid with my dad
18 days to play the fucking game... 18 days... felt like 18 years.
The arcade version wasn't that bad for competitive play and like you said, from a more casual perspective SC3 was fantastic
"Your gorm is poor"
love ur name and profile pic
@@InhumanPotato Thanks.
Wtf I'm no american, so I didn't realize that 3 Ninjas is an actual movie before looking it up after Aris mention it lol
I thought it was just a made up movie name
I'm not american either (NZ), these movies used to play on TV all the time, still have the VHS tape for the one where they fought alongside Hulk Hogan.
Born in scotland i know what 3 ninjas is lol
by no american what you mean to say is 15 years old
Well if you depict me as a kid its fine lol, but to be honest I living in asia, really dont know the movie
The TV on the years plays lots of animes, so what I watch is kind of Tsubasa or Beyblade, or Pokemon
Some of American films broadcasted as I remember is the Macgyver, Knight Rider, and Michael KEaton Batman
But unfortunately all of it is dubbed, no original English episode aired
Intro is definitely getting a BET award
THis game is fucking awesome. It was unbalanced and buggy, but god do i have the fondest memories.
Sciii had a good intro but soul blade on ps1 is hands down the best intro of any fighting game ever
It's the theme song that makes it even better than 2 and 3's.
This was my childhood. I thought it was good for a long time hahaha. Lord aris has enlightened us.
Soul blade was so cool back in the day. played that straight after the fun of bushido blade....Please play Bushido Blade!
Ivy's outfit at 1:18:00 looks exactly like Anna's in Tekken 7
I hope they bring back Li Long in 6. wishful thinkn
20:35 T-t-t-t-t-TODAY JUNIOR
Some site where i can see the figure in more depth of the collectors edition? Im worried if its not enough good
I wonder what he thinks of soul calibur 4.
I had no idea this game was so despised. Everyone who I’ve ever seen talk about it in the SC fanbase loves it, and it’s my favourite out of all the games.
Is it just the competitive aspect that people hate? I personally love it from a gameplay perspective but I’m definitely not a competitive player.
Well, that's all Aris is talking about. From a competitive aspect, the game is awful because it completely falls apart when you get better at it. For people who just want to dick around and do single-player stuff, it's a great game.
I want the Sophitia second costume back :3.
you are a wizard harry
I remember that if you spam some of the nunchuk style attack (not Maxi), it will cause the game to freeze
My first sc I remember getting this for Christmas man
Someone needs to send this video to Mark Yoon.
The chronicles of the sword thing was a separated "slot" for the memory card and if there were big movements of data on the memory card it will get corrupted it happend to me a lot as a kid xD the only way to "finish it" its play it and only play that game
I put up with a lot of aris's shit but the thing that gets me the most is how he calls all sequels "part 2"
Zazmasol was pretty much broken in this game! And I loved it
Campaign mode was nice.. remember when Soul Edge had a campaign to unlock new weapons..
How i miss this game
Very interesting
6:39 McRib lore! atpChar
nice timing on this. hype for tomorrow
