    I got out as a RD2. I loved the job. But since it been re titled to OS. But I also stood QM watches on 201 Foot Cutters. I had a side job on my last 378 as a EW, which I came close putting the Sherman to GQ Combat mode. I picked up a Fire Control Radar locked on us. Lucky it was an US Air Force F 111 doing some training. But when we worked with the Navy, we always ended up embarrassing them.

    Love your channel. I too am a CG vet. (Aviation Maintenance Tech) As you mentioned about so many jobs being encompassed in one rate, in the CG if you are an aviation rate you also serve as aircrew. We fix em' and fly em'.
    As for the matter of does the CG have spec ops? Yes we do. The MSST (Maritime Safety and Security Team) Members go through spec ops training including (but not limited to) parts of Navy SEAL and Army Ranger training. They're like a boarding party on steroids. They do both small boat AND air operations.

      Was the AMT "A" school wait time long back then? Would you recommend waiting for closed "A" schools to open or go to your plan B/C schools?

  • @cecilomar
    @cecilomar 6 лет назад +4

    Most operations specialists are actually ashore. When I went to a-school for the rating they told us that we were going to be one of the last classes that would get navigation and plotting. I actually went to a Cutter after a-school. I should also mention that OS's are only attached to 210' and above cutters.

    @marcusqsilvaa 7 лет назад +1

    Hey Chris
    I'm definitely interested in joining the Coast Guard but I'm having trouble on which rate I want to select. It's either between storekeeper because I eventually want to be a financial advisor whenever I become a civilian so working with budgeting and inventory definitely will help or culinary specialist I don't mind cooking but I wouldn't consider myself passionate about it & let's not forget the $20,000 bonus.

      Andrew Griffin I was Duty GM on our ship. That included weapons accountability, checking the temperature of the ammuntion storages, etc. The GMs on my ship were awesome. If you like guns then GM is for you. It also opens up a lot of tactical unit opportunities for you.
