  • Upgrading/changing the battery and starter cables on a 2010 Triumph Tiger 1050. Jeff 'Pudding' Halford cables available in the UK on the Facebook group 'Triumph Tiger 1050 and Tiger Sport 1050 Owners'. I am not a motorcycle mechanic. This is just how I have upgraded the cables on my bike.

I have owned a 2008 Tiger1050 since new. One of the best upgrades I have done is to replace the stock YTX12-BS battery with a YTZ14S, this along with the larger gauge cables lets the bike crank over strongly.

Thanks for this, just did mine. I used a ratchet spanner instead of sockets. Really helpful and no fuss vid 👍🏼

I have a Tiger 1050 Sport (2014) and I have been having this problem for a while.
Therefore I am looking for the cheapest and most practical solution.
Since I am living in Istanbul, it is difficult for me to reach Jeff Halford's cables
but I think I can find some identicals of those cables here in Istanbul market.
    Consequently;
I understand that we should use better cables in these motorcyles
    than Triumph's original ones.
I will negotiate with some techinicans about this matter.
Perhaps they can offer me some better cables.

I have the upgraded cables and am trying to install. Specifically the positive cable is so stiff that it is very difficult to bend, I find it very hard putting the solenoid back and routing the positive cable to the + terminal on the battery. It is very, very tight.

    Start up sounds the same.

Hi James. Yes, it does. I put the comparison in so that people could hear what it sounds like before and after. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference in how the start up sounds. As I mention in the video, I did this really as a preventative measure.

I have just done this on my sprint ST 1050 and it made the start up significantly better. I did it as a reactive measure unfortunately as I broke down and the bike then wouldn't start again.

Why was this thought necessary? Thanks.

@@algavin6177 I bought mine from Jeff Pudding Halford on the Triumph Tiger 1050 FB group. However, I understand you can buy something similar from Square Deals

I could not understand the mentality of changing these cables.

Hi Ahmett. I mentioned at the start of the video that these bikes are suggested to have undersized cables from the battery to the starter that can apparently cause what some call a hot starter issue, where the bike may not start after having ridden for a while, stopping, and trying to restart. Some of the Triumph forums suggest that this can help prevent that. The cables are cheap enough so I thought it worth the risk to replace them before I have the problem.

      Thanks for your reply.
After your reply I noticed that you replaced the cables before having any hot-start problem.
You made this as a precaution for any possible problem at forthcoming times.
For this reason, there did not happen any sound difference after your replacement.
