Chrome Blackout (Audi B9 S-Line A4 Quattro)

- Today I had a ton of fun blacking out a 2017 Audi B9 S-Line A4 Quattro that a friend of mine recently bought. It was definitely rewarding to help my friend personalize his new car. We used about 8 cans of black Plasti Dip.

That looks so good with the chrome delete!
Thanks for sharing!! Been researching on how to do my emblems and side markers. How many coats did you do?
Hey man, glad I could help! I like to do 3-4 coats on everything I dip. 4+ coats is the most durable and easiest to peel.
I would go with a Vinyl wrap
I can’t imagine trying to wrap the intricate A4 letters.
How did you do the window trim? Did you leave a half inch gap of paint between tape and chrome?
Sure did. Then, after it’s dry it just peels off.
I have this car in silver and want to do the same but I don't want to mess up the paint so would I put tape everywhere its silver and use some sort of brush for precession?
If you use plasti dip you shouldn’t have any problems. It hasn’t damaged any car that I have sprayed it on. Usually what I do is spray around the area that I want colored and then I peel off the excess plasti dip
Hi when you sprayed the emblem on the front, how did you protect the radiator behind the grill, thanks
News paper behind the grille
From Russia with love!)) Супер тачка!)
How many cans of plastidip did it take you for the whole thing? I plan on doing a full chrome delete on my new audi s5 as well
You should be good with 6-7 cans for wheels, emblems, grille, and trim
I want to ask something i hope i will get the answer , one time i tried to plastic dipp the grill but when i washet with pressure wash the plastic dipp comes off , any advice , or should i try more coats or im affraid to do again in my audi ,
Plasti Dip Tips:
1) Clean surface prior to dipping.
2) Always do 5+ coats of Plasti Dip.
3) Do not wash your car 2-3 days after dipping.
4) Do not pressure wash close to surface (this goes for dipped and non-dipped surfaces #ProtectThePaint)
5) Take your time dipping
Thank you very much, 👍🏼
How did you get the trim behide the wind mirror ? Tried twice now and just peels off with the tape :/ thanks
Just gotta angle in the best that you can
FrankieGisMe where did you tape it I put mine half way on the rubber seal ? Do you do it different? Thabks
That should be fine but I recommend taking a toothpick or something like that and running over the dividing line after each coat to ensure it peels off clean
How did you get into the front bumper to get the newspaper to protect the radiator?
Open the hood. Undo the screws for the shield around the latch. Doesnt come up all the way but just enough to slide newspaper/cardboard in there.
Is it better to wrap rather then paint cause the first time I payed to get it done they sprayed it not sure if it was a bad job but I was told wrap is better ?
Pretty much the same but a wrap is more easily reversed
Did you remove the spray from front parking sensors?
N1ckN1ck100 nope and they still work great 👍
I'm a little late to the party, but how did you get the radiator covered? I tried looking under the hood and it doesn't look very easy to get in through the top. Did you just push the newspaper in through the grille slots? Thanks, good vid btw
Hey 👋 thanks for watching. It was fairly difficult to do. We opened the hood and removed the plastic screws to the cover above the radiator. The hood latch was hard to remove so we ended up just bending the plastic enough fit my arm through with the newspaper. Be careful so you don’t mess up the plastic. Hope that helps. 👍🏼
I was afraid of that, the plastic is pretty tough. I found another workaround possibly from another video. You put a balloon behind the grille through the slot and blow it up with a straw. Do like 4 balloons to cover the whole radiator and it covers pretty much all of it. Thanks for the comment!
That’s sounds interesting. Crazy that they designed the car that way. Thank you 🙏🏼
may i know what kind of black does this A4 original called? My A4's colour called metallic black. Will this spray have some colour slightly differences? Thank you
The emblems are so small you shouldn’t be able to tell the difference. The spray I used is not permanent so it does not have specific blacks. It’s just a plain matte black.
@@Frankiegisme thanks
do the parking sensors in the front still work fine after spraying over them like that?
+AJ Manuel they sure do
awesome, thanks!
+AJ Manuel of course! Thanks for watching
How long does plasti dip last as opposed to vinyl wrapping ?
Plasti dip usually looks good for a year
Did u use any glossifier?
+Khalil Henderson only in the front emblem. Ended up changing it to matte a couple days later.
frankiegisme, how long does this last and how well does the owner like it after its been on for a while? does he still have it on?
It’ll last 1-2 years before you’ll need to retouch it. I just talked to the owner and he said that it looks good but the he just redid it.
What did you put into the wheels when spraying them?
Grocery bags work best. If the calipers are cool to touch, you can wrap the bags around them. I also liked to use newspaper
what camera are you using?
+Ron Thomas iPhone 6s
I like it prob would of left the S line badge alone but overall nice looking
+Anthony Guerra ya that makes sense. My friend that owns that car recently lowered it. Looks bad ass
did you use any prep? or just washed with soap?
Ya, he just washed his car so it was clean. Just make sure your car is clean, dry, and not greasy.
it looks like you are spraying the car but when it comes out its not on the car just badges?
That's one of the coolest things about plasti dip. At 1:30 when I started peeling the tape I also peeled off the excess plasti dip. The excess peels perfectly by tearing around the emblem, leaving a clean finish.
+FrankieGisMe what about inside the Audi rings what kind of advice do you have for that. Or does that also come right off.
+Chillin Wit Dylan great question, it's very similar. I have found that using a toothpick or something similar makes it easy to get around those areas. It still peel cleanly but using a toothpick helps get into tight areas that your fingers can't.
How long would something like that hold up?
Did the same thing to my VW. It was on for nearly 3 years before I decided to redo it.
Until first pressure wash
This looks sick, i have the same car but 2.0tdi. How hard isit to remove?
It’s pretty durable but comes off when you want it to.
Dude I have a 2017 Audi A4 technik pkg with S Line Sport package. I’m planning on doing the same thing
i would of replaced the badges myself with black ones.
❤❤❤
I see you have Pirelli tires. I have the same car but I have Hankook sport tires and I can feel every little bump. Do you like the Pirelli's?
They came with the car. They’re okay 👌🏼
hankook are the worst tires ive ever used and ive heard plenty of other audi owners complain about theirs. pirelli are far better than hankook
Why didn’t you just go for the Black Edition and the black rear light pack as standard available from Audi ?
Just because it's black edition doesn't mean it's all black.. my black edition was grey with all this chrome and it wrapped it
is the hair dryer on cool or hot??
+rebecca stratton I've used it on both settings. Just don't get too close. It's more for the airflow not the temperature.
Does it damage the paint when it's on/ when it's being taken off?
I haven't had any damage in the 4 years that I've used Plasti Dip
how did you get behind the grille?
It was kind of a pain in the butt. We opened the hood and removed the plastic pins that were holding down a plastic panel above the grille. We couldnt figure out how to disconnect the hood release so we lifted the left and right sides of the plastic panel, leaving the middle in tact. Doing that gave enough space to let us tape the newspaper inside it to guard the radiator from plasti dip.
So nice! Is that black color permanent? Or will it fade over time?
The best part about Plasti Dip is that it is not permanent. Some colors fade over time but I've found that black holds up very well.
I want to see you do a 2018 Audi A5 sportback
+Danny P I would but I don’t know anyone that has one
What kind of paint is that? You painted everywhere and end up looking like you only paint the chrome
It’s called Plasti Dip. It’s rubberized removable paint. I spray it on everything lol
Won’t it come off when power washing the car?
I haven’t had any issues. I have multiple videos going through different car washes including self serve washes where I used a pressure washer.
Trunk rings are in matt black or ?
Yep... and we peeled the inner parts of the rings so it’s matte black against glass black
@@Frankiegisme thank you very much for reply
Have to say it looks a lot better with the chrome blacked out. I'm thinking about doing it to a SQ5. When you did the rear I was expecting the addon spray to differ from the normal body colour.
There is no add on spray. After it drys you should peel that off
I really want to do this as Audi have now taken away the black styling pack as an option
I know what you mean. Previous to my GLI I had a B7 Audi S-Line A4 Quattro with the Titanium (black out) package
I guess you better find an EXACT paint and quality match, if you're going to do it this way.
Hey. Will you be in Southern California anytime soon. I would want to do this and I'll pay you for it. If not, how much do you think it'll cost me to do this from an auto shop.
+ComfyManatee I most likely won't be in CA until next summer. Honestly, I wouldn't pay a shop to do it because it's fairly easy. I'd be happy to give advice prior to you attempting it. Just hit me up on my social media @frankiegisme. Thanks for watching
Could have bought a base
Hey where are you located i wouldnt mind letting you plastic dip my new car when i get it
+airstax I live in Arizona but plasti dip is so easy to work with that you won't need me to do it.
+FrankieGisMe oh alright never mind lol im from New York but nice job on the audi a4 because of this video i really considered doing this to my Audi when i get it.
+airstax I highly recommend doing it. If it doesn't come out well you can always peel it off and try again. Thanks for watching 👍
That paint will never hold
What happens when you wash your car. Surely that would come off.
Surely it won’t brother.
@@Asterious_ yes it does. I done this to my Audi 2017, all emblems sprayed, the car has been washed 4 times in the last 5 months and yes it wears away. It will need redone.
Should have left the quattro and sline logos stock.
100% agree. Those were removed after. We still showed in the video since that’s what we did.
It always looks good until the rock Chios hit it, it looks nice but I think I'm gonna pat the money for the real thing.
Its honestly very durable and resistant to chipping of you layer coats properly
@@Frankiegisme I'll look forward to a follow up video in the future.
No update video. Friend is in the Air Force and was shipped out (car and all) a couple weeks after this video.
good video, but why spoil it with horrendous music !
Because nobody’s perfect 🤷🏻♂️
damn you forgot to remove the dip from the middle of the A and 4
Ha ya, we did it after
But he's sprayed over the paint on the body of the car inside and around the badges? This is ridiculous.
Yes, with plasti dip you can do that. The n when you’re done you can pull the part that you don’t want on the car (over spray). Plasti dip is an amazing product like that.
omg... it s very strange
Just get black optic package. It looks 1,000 times better than the shit you just did.
🤦🏻♂️
Я такого дерьма в жизни не видел... не знал что такие люди есть на свете...
This looks awful. There are drip marks everywhere, and you can dirt under the plastidip.
That just doesn't look good at all. The car looks cheap.
To each their own, if he likes his car to look different then every other 2017 Audi, then he can do what he wants to it.
+Mr Snuffleupagus 😂
Plasti Dip is not regular paint
No, it usually stays on pretty well. Here’s a durability video that I made awhile back. Plasti Dip Durability Test with VW MK6 Jetta GLI ruclips.net/video/6UJKDvSOZf0/видео.html
appleseedmvp yea mate and audi black edition was made as well to look and buy it cheaper ... wtf
cheap
Cost effective
Lol it looked a lot better before. Took a 50k car and made it look cheap
it was $47k haha
A looot of super car use black details instead of chrome. Dick.
What a waste lmao.
Yuck
Looks much worse
Not sure why people black out the emblems, makes the car look like a crap. The chrome actually makes the car pop and look expensive.
+LiftOrGTFO makes it look different from the thousands of other cars that Audi rolled out. To each their own. Thanks for watching 👍
Like crap? They looks so great
😂spray can job on a luxury car well done wtf
is the hair dryer on cool or hot??
sorry for the late response. I use it on the lower setting that is pretty warm. Start from a good distance while the dip is still wet otherwise it could cause it to bubble or drip. Thanks for watching
