US President-elect George W. Bush greeted the man he will succeed, saying as he met with President Clinton "I'm here to listen."
The outgoing Democratic chief executive said his only advice to the Republican was "to get a good team and do what you think is right."
Although Bush had pledged in campaign speeches to restore honor and dignity to the White House - a reference to Clinton scandals - the two spoke congenially as they met for the first time since the election.
He was to meet later Tuesday with his former rival, Vice President Al Gore.
Bush and Clinton were to meet for about 90 minutes in the Oval Office with their respective aides in what has become a White House tradition.
Clinton came out to greet Bush and the two then walked along the colonnade alongside the Rose Garden, then ducked into the Oval Office.
Clinton told Bush he will have economic challenges to deal with -- but a recession is not one of them.
In recent days Bush has suggested a recession could be in the offing.
When asked about that by reporters, Clinton says he expects the economy to continue to grow, though not as quickly as in recent years.
Bush declined to comment on the economy, telling reporters he's at the White House to listen.
The two met with staff members present, but were also to have a one-on-one session.
Bush's first visit to Washington since the election has been met by overtures of cooperation and expressions of good will from both parties.
After returning to Austin on Wednesday, Bush was expected to make more announcements about filling jobs in his administration.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"It's vastly different. It's such a huge honor to come as the President-elect. And I don't think I'll fully realize the full impact until I swear in. I suspect the president will say the same thing. I'm humbled and honored and I can't thank the president enough for his hospitality, he didn't have to do this."
    SUPER CAPTION: George W. Bush, U.S. President-elect
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"It's interesting, when I had this meeting eight years ago with the President-elect's father, he told me that the biggest problem we were facing was the nuclear program, in North Korea. And we were able to build on the work they had done and put an end to that. And now the big problem there is the missile program. We may have a chance to put an end to it. And if we can I think we should. But this is something I want to consult with the president elect and his team about, and we'll see what the facts are and I'll try to do what's best for the country."
SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U.S. President

@@donald_the_savage1234 No they didn't. Bush was a wartime President. 9 years into his administration, 9/11 happened. The world changed. He worked hard to secure the country after that. He had high popularity in his first 3 years. It was unusual even for a wartime President to keep it that high. In 2003, his popularity was hitting +70%. The first 6 and half years was good growth years. The Great Recession began in 2008. But he had no hand 8n it. Crooks on Wall Street caused it.

American often compare N Korea situation with Cuba, In reality N Korea is in grievous challenge than any other country in the world. Although they don't like if I say, but the reality is they build their social structure & economic policy in such a way that Kim can't even change that. Example lies in front of you, fierce warriors of mid-asia are now struggling for economic emancipation and they even showing flexibility way before you anticipated time frame ! So, my querry is if N Korea is privileged a little bit which is of course not little for them, what cost does it took to deny it if the deal is a honourable one !?

George W was just mad Clinton was the greatest polical genius in the 20 the Century. George.W Bush told his closest ” If Clinton would have been able to Run a Third time I would never had accepted to be the Republicans Presidential candidate and also the Republicans Would not have voted me to be the Republicans candidate if it was against Clinto who They knew would absolutely beat Me as easily as possible. I would not have wanted to Loose the 2000 US precidential election with the biggest loss in US history. Clinton would have gotten more than 300 elector votes more than Me and I would have been the biggest looser ever”

Clinton would have completely humilisted George W Bush had he’d been allowed to Run a Third time for president. But had Clinton been allowed to Run a Third time George WBush would never have been the Republicans Presidential candidate. He would not want to be the person who got defeted in the biggest win ever in a Presidential election. He told his closest in 2001 ” If Clinton would have been able to run a Third time I would never have been the presidecial candidate for the Republicans. Clinton would have humiliated Me badly and I dont want to be the biggest loser in a US election ever”. In fact George W Bush who is one year older than Clinton was Asked to be the Republicans President Candidate in 1996 but refused saying ” Thats suicide, Clinton is unbeatable, I wait untill his second term is over ( cerartain Clinton would win in 1996) and he can’t Run again ”

Clinton Said it himself he would have beaten George W Bush in US history had he gotten the chance to go for a Third time. Now When They recounted the Florida votes in March 2001 Gore actually son the election and should have been president. But that was the recount W Bush absolutely did not want. So he ran to the High Court. George W Bush the only president sitting 2 terms but only simning one election ( 2004). But that was up untill Then the worst candidates ever from both parties. In 1992 for the Democratic Bill Clinton got 366 votes Al Gore got 1 vote. Had Gore as Clinton adviced him to Run the country Clinton ran it he would have made the biggest win in US history against W Bush. Instead he starts To humiliate the most popular president ever : Bill Clinton vidringat him 25 States. Al Gore is the only president in history who lost his home state Tenesee, which if had won Tenesee it was enough to be president and Florida would not have mattered. But the same as Clinton Said ” If I were able to Run for a Third time I would have beaten George W Bush in the biggest victory in US history with over 300 elector votes than Bush. Its really a shame I cant Run again because I would have beaten him do easily. I had him totaly figured out. Dole and his dad were tougher to figure out. But had I been able to Run a Third time you would not have seen W Bush ad the Republican president candidate. He knew he had absolutely got No chance against Me. He got the Question in 1996 and George W Declined immidiately. Against Clinton ? No way that guy is completely unbeatable I Will wait untill he cant Run again” That sure W Bush was that Clinton was going to sin in 1996. In 2001 George W Bush told his closest ” If Bill Clinton could have Run s Third time I would never sccepted to be the Republicans president candidate. I deckined in 1996 and Clinton is much more popular noe thaimat in 1996. In an election in 2000 Bill Clinton would have beaten Me in the biggest win in US history and taken a Third time in the white house. That election would have been over before it began with Bill Clinton as the winner in the biggest win in US Presidential history and I would have been the Viggestorp Looser in US Presidential History. I think Clinton would have won with over 350 elector votes. Would I want to be humiliated like that ? No thanks”.
