I have a Samlaren 2d which I use for my art supplies like markers and pencils and sketchbooks. I think it is an excellent size for a day trip/travel. It looks a bit tiny on me since I am 6'2" but I am okay because all my other backpacks are a bit too oversized, and sometimes I really don't need that much room in my backpack, and hip packs are way too small for my need. I am looking into hip pack plus next perhaps to carry even less items for quick sketches in coffee shops. Nice to see a video from a fellow Malaysian. Keep it up!
That’s awesome, a Samlaren 2D! I agree with you that the Samlaren series is relatively small compared to other series. I am at the shorter side hence it’s just sufficient for my needs. I'd love a combo of the laptop version but with these extra pockets. My laptop goes in and out of my bag so many times in a day, it's just so inconvenient when taking it out and putting it back means I have to disturb everything else in the bag too - I really prefer just having a dedicated compartment. But pockets 😭
Thanks for posting the video. I was considering getting this bag, but there aren't many reviews for it out there. I was wondering: Do you feel this bag would fit/be okay for a man? Also, are you only concerned about color transfer from clothing because the bag is light, or do you feel the bag would transfer its color to clothing for some reason?
Thank you for watching! I do believe it looks good on man but I would definitely suggest that you give it a try at the store before you purchase. You can also try on the green one which looks good too! My fear on the colour transfer is from my clothing to the bag. I used it on a daily basis and so far so good. I really like it! I would suggest to get a laptop sleeve to protect your laptop as there is no dedicated compartment for a laptop in this bag.
Samlaren is its own Fjallraven line, not related to Kanken. I just ordered the brown/tan one :) When you bought yours, did you have the other 3 color options available too?
I wonder how the shoulder straps are. I am planning to get it for my summer trip which I will be walking in a city all day. Do they hurt your shoulders and neck if you walk around with the laptop all day? Appreciate your honest opinion.
Hello Kelly =) For the shoulder strap, there are other Kanken models that comes without the shoulder pads. For those without the shoulder pads, it’s good for light weight items. However, if you intend to carry your laptop I would recommend you to opt for the ones with the shoulder pads. The laptop series are good as it comes with shoulder pads and also a separate compartment for your laptop. This gives you easy access to put in and take out your laptop without any interruption to other items in your bag. However you can also buy the shoulder pads separately to put them on. Regarding the weight of the bag with a laptop inside, I personally have a 13 inch laptop which is a smaller size and also thinner as compared to other laptops. I chose this size because I was also afraid of the weight to be too heavy on me. So far, I have no complaints carrying around. I did try carrying around the whole day with my laptop and chargers inside and it was fine for me. I always try to keep items in my bag as minimal as possible. Hence it is vital to also take into consideration of other items that you place inside the bag together with the laptop which may adds up the weight. All in all, it very much depends on your daily habits or needs. It would be great if you can walk into any of the stores to give it a try. Hope that this helps =)
