Pine shavings are bad for chickens. I grew up on a farm and we never used it. Use hemp or corncob bedding.
Hello Tyler! I don't know if anyone has told you but they need at least 2 hrs during the day of sleep for several wks. They don't need to be under a light all the time bc they need to sleep ok. I raised chickens for almost 18 yrs. They grow fast. Enjoy them.

Raccoons, bugs, nutrition, hawks, water system, lots to do! Water has to be changed constantly. When bigger, rats will move in if you leave the food out there and they scratch it all over the place. Best to feed, remove food overnite, set out again. They are so cute when small.

Not sure what you will use the new camera for. Maybe better for magnet fishing. Chicks are cute. I hope you watched a bunch of RUclips videos since you brought the chicks home. They deserve to live, even if you are a beginner. I was pretty sure you weren't with Owens mom, but I am so glad you have some kind of custody arrangement going on so you see Owen often enough. Kids are work and require much, but if you do it close to right, they bless you in return.

first time i see a heater, my grandfather used to raise chickens and always use 60W incadesent lightbulb. if you did not yet, ask veterinarian about vitamins, small chickens are prone to health issues. good job and good luck!

Perhaps I missed it, but did you tell us what kind of chicks they are? (Other than the most expensive rare breed)
They really darling. Owen’s going to squeal with glee when he sees them 😂. Hey, now you have your yard tick-proofed!! Can’t get a more organic tick repellent than chickens in the yard! If you have a local feed mill you can usually get baby chicks of all kinds rather inexpensively, plus you can pick the ones you want. Check with some of your farming neighbors. Hope that one little guy made it.
It was like a variety pack deal so I’m not even sure yet what breeds I all have 🤣 I think I have 3 different breeds and it should be easier to tell once they get older!

Oh man I bet you found out they stink quite a bit when they were in their little pen! Can't wait to see how they arw doing and how many made it this far! I hope they are not all roosters. There is a 50/50 chance. Has carrots been introduced to the chicks yet? They should be fine around cats once they are a bit bigger!

The baby chicks are adorable. I'm surprised they were not shipped with an extra one in case one did not make it through the trip. I Murray Hatchery does that when you get a dozen at a time.Are they Ayam Cemani chicks??? If so I can't wait to see them, they are beautiful. Hope you got at least 1 rooster. BTW a heart way to keep the chicken pen dry is to have a nipple drinker water jug it is a pin type drinker and they learn quickly how to use it. Thanks for sharing the farm with us see you next time. since you asked,, this camera makes your head look big and the rest of you smaller, but that's probably just the way that camera works.

Sage hens and Banty roosters along with Rhoad Island Reds.
I ended up getting rid of the Banties.
They trying to seriously hurt the Reds.
I honestly didn't realize how long their spurs were.
They got me a couple of times,
but when they attacked my daughter and son...

Had chickens years ago during my second farming experience. Cute as chicks, a bit miserable as adults. But at least you get eggs!
I eat about 2-3 cartons of a dozen eggs a week just myself so this will be nice!

Maybe if you held the camera lower so it’s more eye height. The focus is on your head, it’s not a bad head, just saying, but the angle of the shots focus on your head and will exaggerate whatever is nearest the lens.

@@TheFisher don't lay the camera down without covering the lenses. They will scratch. I bought a protective cover when not in use. Good luck
@@231rocks I actually already scratched the lens covers that came with it 🤣 so I bought the expensive scratch proof lens covers and I also got that silicon cover that goes over them when not in use!
The silicone cover is the one I have but sometimes I forget to put it on, ughhh lol
