For DMs: "The exact distance between the obstacle and the ship (that disables warp speed) is for the DM to decide, but whatever obstacle caused the ship to slow down is usually close enough to be seen by creatures on deck." It's still in DM's ruling how far from 5ft. to 10,000 mile+ before the spelljammer is far enough to spelljam. Most intelligent DMs will probably have the common sense to hand wave the distance Rule of thumb takes only a few hours at most to exit a planet (unless you like the idea that spelljammers can only hand on the Tallest mountains, teleportation hubs, or space elevators). Rules are not hard enough to make that judgment invalid but it was a big oversight to not give a additional approximation for planetary exits. Also another interesting Idea, if airplanes gain speed as they fall as they descend to the landing strip, so your planetary entry speed can be at max 23 Miles per hour with using the spelljammer fly speed making it a controlled descent.
Damage Thresholds are explained in Ch.9 in the DMG under Objects, but would not know that when trying to find it in the Mounts and Vehicles in ch 5 in the PHG.
just want to point out that Astral elves in 2e where genocidal maniacs and distroyed cities and i think planets in the quest to kill unhumans (orcs, goblins, kobalds, ect).

It's not a Giff statblock but a "Giff Shipmate" which replaced the Fragmentation grenade, armor, and Headfirst Charge, with a Force Grenade and the ability to not fall while on the ship" "See the book doesn't have reprints, so you can't make us reprint the Ship Combat rule"- someone at WotC.
