Didn't realize some of the extensive redesign and remodel SV bāsik went through ! Great craftmanship ! Definitely the old adage fits the #OnboardLifestyle " teamwork makes the dreamwork "
Hi Guys, wow what a vast improvement to the old boat that you’ve done Emma must’ve been a little baby when you’ve moved onto the boat going to be wonderful when it’s all finished. Good thing about it guys you’re always keep annoying your boat and you’re always maintain it well, keep up the good work. , Cliff from Australia 🇦🇺
You should do a video looking back at all those major changes that you’ve done over the years. I watched the galley reconstruction clip in this video four times. Absolutely wonderful work!
Fyi ( i know you've been in central America for awhile), but we just got back last week from Belize and got eaten alive by yellow flies!. Blech. Love that you're fairing inside the window frame....some things never change. Love you guys!
Basik has been a project of passion. A ton of work over the last decade and a half. It took us so long because we both had full time jobs and would just work week-ends on basik paying out-of-pocket as we went. Have fun filling in the million little details of our back story.
One thing I've noticed about Teal is that he never rushes a job. I learned years ago that slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Teal's got that down pat. There's nothing on Basik that has not been done meticulously. If you do it right you don't have to come back and redo it. Of course everything breaks and has to be fixed, but a solid foundation spreads out those occurences.
I think one thing that Teal gets very little credit for is things like replacing the door to the cockpit with a non-custom unit. This is really important, because it allows for easy replacement and/or maintenance. That's so important in any place you're going to live for an extended period. Kudos.
I noticed that. Obvious he was the builder, because after installing years ago, he directed her to give just a little kick at the bottom and his door immediately released into already positioned hands. He remembers his custom build from bow to stern
When I look at Teal's work, my jaw drops and the only words I can come up with are "That Guy" My word man. Been watching since year 1.5 and still.. That Guy Love your work, truly. Take care family, fair winds.
Coming from another handyman... the a nice pat on the shoulder. Here another nice pat from here too! The world is missing a lot of passionate handyman and handywoman.I hope I won't reach more than 16 and half year on you for starting to build mine! It is on conception table more seriously since I got sight of Sailing Nahoa around March or April 2018, short before I started following many of you guys.
It was fun to reflect back to the first days and remember. Then the shocker was you entered the year, and I about fell out of my chair. Boy it's been a good ride! Please stay safe! Love you guys.
The vessel is in good shape. i figure these projects are a sort of therapy for Teal. He really seems to enjoy it. This is the second time i am witnessing 'task masters' (lol). First was Rossco on "Life on the Hulls" with Janet, saying, 'get back to work and now you with Lynn telling her to 'get back to sanding!!!! Ttfn
That looks amazing, what's even more amazing is you're not wearing the primer all over you. When I use it I usually have more in myself and I do the boat. Keep bringing great content
Just a thought guys, to give the ILLUSION of the windows being larger you could have the trim painted to more closely match the paint of the bulkhead. As a future project for Teal, the kitchen window could be made so it opens inward (not ideal on a boat I know) and up to catch on a hook from the overhead. If the outside overhang was larger it could easily swing out and up.
You could do it like a Citroen 2CV fold down window. If theres no way to do a drop down into the bulk head . Like a car door window....then you've got to seal it 🤔 The other option is to modify the door to a horizontal split opening one ...what we call a stable door. The frame determines the opening direction for both halves. But you get full ventilation without even heavy rain or waves getting in from the cockpit.
last weeks episode and this weeks episode have been so hard to watch. you guys have always been so happy, i really hope you manage to fix whatever is wrong between you. still loving the boat videos, still loving how much you do to your boat. best of luck for the future.
200 m yrs programming one of the best ambush predators ...says Yup .. there's another channel years ago they had a big lab sized dog used to bark and watch crocks of a walkway feet above the water .. till the croc came up from under the jetty and grabbed his nose. Fortunately the croc wasn't that big and let go .. but compass is bite size 😬
Never realized the height difference between you and Lynn. Not until I just saw you and her standing right next to each other. Nice crock bet you guys won’t be diving off the back of the boat anytime soon.
Hey just a idea for change of food... Gator tail is really good. Am sure you could get some other good cuts off it... Then lots of little strips of meat for like stir-fry's... I would ask the locals about it tho, but know them Cajun's live by gator meat...
There is a beefy trim ring that secures the door frame from the inside. It is impossible to remove the door without first removing the trim ring. We just didn't show the removal on the video.
Lol, there will be no going into the water with those bad boys. We're not taking any chances to find out if they are friendly or not. Luckily, there is a pool available if we need to cool off. 👍
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122I might ask you someday tips about organising interactions with schoolboards or ministry of education while living onboard. My son is passionate about marine life, biology and geology since his birth. My daughter is also always doing stuff which can relate to veterinary medecine... maybe it can mix well!
Nice work, as always. I'm curious ; haven't you ever felt the need for a traditional compass (beside the dog ;)...) behind the wheel ? Basik must be the only boat I've seen without one :) !
We have had vertical mount compass ready to install for 8 years. When I went to put it in behind the wheel it did not have the clearance. Then we installed our Raymarine Axiom 12 in it's place. We have been kicking around ideas now for years for another home for it. There is nothing like navigating by compass on a night shift. Maybe, one day we will figure it out.
Lol, only wishful thinking we could leave them open. Unfortunately, like you said, bees, mosquitos, and everything else will likely see this as an invitation so windows and doors will go back in. Emma was studying for finals, but she will be back next week. 👍👍👍
The work is looking great! Sounds like the marina that you're in is quite noisy (?) Does it stay noisy at night? Also, are the critters you filmed swimming nearby salt water crocs or are they gators? (assuming crocs)
not that you will care, RUclips gave me my account back. In the end, Im not sure why they suspended it.. either way I watched your videos despite RUclips restrictions on this account and/or others of my account.
Please Linh and Teal. Safety googles and face mask. Inhaling that dust from sanding cannot be good for you. I’m also reminded of the Engineer’s Lament, “Anything worth doing is worth way overdoing.” It’s what I love about Basik. You don’t do anything halfway.
There is a beefy trim ring that secures the door frame from the inside. It is impossible to remove the door without first removing the trim ring. We just didn't show the removal on the video.

Definitely a smart idea to wait to paint so no bugs got on the paintjob! Great job!
Thanks guys! This has definitely been a labor of love and is going to turn out awesome! Cheers!
@@OnboardLifestyleSure do! I remember seing and old video in which she painted at dawn... Oh my! The hard non-glorious sanding came along!
Captain Tight Cheeks commanding his people (family) around again.
I didn't hear anyone being commanded. We were obviously watching different videos.
Loved seeing the old photos, would love to see a whole video on the original transformation /rebuild of Basik.

Nice work. The original photos sent me searching your older videos. There is a lot to see, thanks.

It’s hard to say without being able to measure but I think the Dometic S7P Windows might fit nicely in that kitchen area…
Now I know why you’ve been in Shelter Bay for so long.
Poor Teal, Linh coming up with more projects in the beginning of a bunch of projects.. 🤣🤣🤣❤
Lol, she always has great ideas. I just need to remind of her of what the projects entails....

Lookup an RV exit window.
Multi-purpose tool. Mix paint with the drill, make marinara in the galley. Two birds, one stone.

Teal, of course sanding by hand around he trim, but why no orbit sander on the broad spaces?
There was a hotel nearby and they wanted to show consideration for the guests.
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 - Ahh ok, Geeze I probably missed that comment, but Yah, I noticed their in the front row there - super nice marina
some of those cam perspectives are questionable but I'm not mad ... xD
What roller cover do you use, I usually find they start tearing apart using the epoxy primer
I'm wondering if Emma will end up purchasing a boat and doing her own RUclips channel once she leaves the nest.
Probably not since she has her sights on college. Whatever she chooses to do, we have faith she will make the right decision for herself. 😊
One of those windows that rolls down into the bulkead????? - I mean if your going to dream about custom windows - you might as dream big...
We would love that but unfortunately there are structural elements above and below the current cut-out that cannot be modified.
