I come here to remember my mom. This was her favorite song from her organization. Shout out to my mom 😇 and the Mighty Mu Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Listened to this often for over 10 years as an aspiring member. Now I can finally say I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated 💕💚
Today is my first AKAversary!! I had to revisit this song because my line marched into our probate chanting this song! It gives me chills thinking about it! I will forever love this song and my AKA! The best sorority to EVER exist!! 💗💚
I’m a brother in SAE, and I attended an AKA ceremony at my university as an ambassador. They performed this song and stroll, and it was truly amazing. Left me with chills
My wife is an AKA and I want to give a shout out to the Alpha Iota Chapter. I remember hear the AKA's singing this song years ago on the yard in the mid 70's at my HBCU. No offense against other Divine 9 Sororities, the AKA's are very classy.
Ladies it depends on the chapter we feel no disrespect when young women express there interest in pledging but once you get to college keep it to yourself until rush week you don't have to be a legacy or of a certain background but it must truly be in your heart
Im pretty sure AKA is my true love!! Every since I found out about their existence I wanted to be member I love every thing about them !! Ive had a ot of set backs in my life.. but I am now 24 and the first one in my fam in college!! I want to be the first in my fam to be an AKA and start a legacy for my girls!! # striving for my pearls!
Sorors! you do us proud. I went over in 1973, this was a favorite song then, I know it has ...evolved into Skee Wee but back in the day we said Skeet-a-weet! Which ever one you use, it's all ours and all good...Through the years! Genesis, EH 10/13/73
I wish there were more resources for becoming an AKA for individuals who have no family history of the sorority and do not know any members, in order to find out information about how to express interest and who to express interest to.... Sigh.
siSTARgirl04 I had never heard of any sorority prior to attending college. I saw Greek life on A Different World and School Daze, but I didn't understand because I grew up in an impoverished area that had gangs, not Greeks. When I began college the women who helped me the most, with no hidden motives, were AKAs. From there I researched the history of all four sororities and then checked to see who aligned with their purpose. I respected every group, but AKA had my heart. If no research has been done, then how is this the correct life-long decision? It's not about stepping or superficial reasons. Be thorough and intentional. Best wishes.
Ladies, you do not need to keep your interest in becoming an AKA a secret. We are not an underground society and we don't vet a candidate prior to someone showing interest in the organization, at the undergraduate level. You must attend a Rush in order to be considered. The Rush is not in a secret place; therefore, no "secrecy" is involved. You are chosen based on your moral and ethical standards, community involvement, and your desire to be of service to all mankind, among other things.
To siStargirl04 If you want to become an AKA find out about what kinds of projects they are working on try to help the, this will give you the opportunity to introduce yourself, get to know them and let them get to know you. good luck
I commend you on your comments. I never understood why you can't your interest be known. I heart is with another organization but I still commend you on your comments.
@@jinazarose4353 no they cannot. Our call is TRADEMARKED. ONLY for Sorors. But if you feeling brave, go around some AKAs and skee wee w.o. being a soror. See how well that works for you. AND if its their dream, they should respect it enough to NOT disrespect it. 🤷
To all the ladies using "skee-wee" who are NOT in this Sorority, that is a big no-no. So when you get to college, I strongly suggest you don't do that because you will definitely diminish your chances of getting in. You aren't in the organization, so you shouldn't use something exclusively for members such as their call.
What has happened? In the past we knew not to make these kinds of statements. It usually meant that you would not be selected. Especially when you can't the founding year right. I hope you are just 12 years old and don't know any better,
@@TheBlairWenchProject Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, I graduated from college and I have 2 Master's degrees. It's hard bc the grad chapters are by invite only.
Ladies, you should definitely keep it to yourselves. As a lady of AKA, I speak on behalf of my Sorors when I say we appreciate the interest, however Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated chooses its' members. You do not CHOOSE Alpha Kappa Alpha. Discretion is key with us and blurting out your interest is the first failure in your chances of being blessed to one day become a member..Not knocking you guys, but keep that in mind. - An AKA
NO. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. began as a Greek letter sorority for Black females who attended a college/university. I'm Black and I became a member of this sorority in 1967 (Gamma Zeta chapter). Most of the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha are Black. However, for decades now AKA (and other historically Black Greek letter sororities and historically Black Greek letter fraternities) have had members who aren't Black.
