As a Boeing employee I can confirm that unless something is considered a risk for flight and is very obviously dangerous you’re gonna become everyone’s least favorite coworker if you speak up enough about things you notice that ends in delaying the job. It’s frustrating because a lot of Boeing employees seem to think these whistleblowers are just liars trying to smear Boeing in the media because the union would never allow Boeing to straight up fire you for bringing up safety concerns so anyone who claims they’ve been retaliated against is full of shit, but the “retaliation” Boeing does is moving you to a new team, job, or a new program entirely (like the first whistleblower getting moved from the 787 to the 777). Boeing is ran by an absolute shit management but a lot of the shop and QA employees are often just as shitty and stupid

6 months ago I applied for a job at Boeing, during the interview they asked me if i had experience putting together IKEA furniture, I was shocked, I have an engineering degree and 10 years experience in manufacturing, fabrication and construction, they were hiring people to build planes and wanted to know if I could build IKEA furniture. I told them yes and then they made me guarantee I could work over time and weekends. After all this they offered me a job from 3pm to 11pm for $19 an hour. I turned the job down and they got visibly angry at me. And I wasn't the only one, every person at the hiring even with manufacturing experience turned the job down. The only people who accepted the job had no experience. Two weeks later I got a job at a tiny fabrication company for $35 an hour. If you want your planes on time and to be built safely pay people what they are worth so you can hire qualified people

11:21 since i used to watch way too much air crash investigation the guy mentioned (8:14) boeing pushing pieces together too hard to remove the gaps causing metal fatigue. Metal fatigue is when a metal loses its structural integrity after experiencing the same forces/pressures thousands of times when flying. So the point is their shoddy manufacturing could lead to bits of the airplane falling apart after some use, possibly before expected/advertised

what vaush is talking about with things needing to line up to be catastrophic is called "the swiss cheese model" in aviation and transport safety. Basically you're trying to build as many layers as possible, so that things can't fall through the holes without being caught by a lower layer. The idea is that you catch things before they reach the lowest layer (death and catastrophy) by having so many points of approval and counter approval. The problem is that companies don't care about well functioning beurocracies that keep us safe, they care about quarterly earnings which means they hire less mechanics to do more work, skip over approval processes and regulation checks, and lose less money letting things go until this point until it can't be ignored. This is inherent to corporations. They will always put profits before safety. That's exactly why all these companies like boeing shouldn't be privately owned entities. They NEED to be nationalized and consolidated. We don't need 10 different aircraft manufacturing brands. We need 1 really good one, and the best way to do that is to pool resources and have engineers work in a cooperative enviornment where they get the last say and aren't subjected to upper management pressure to put out product for the sake of money. Engineers know what works, and these are the kind of things we want to be a kind of safety first technocratic field. We don't want jackass business managers making choices on what's "safe enough" for consumers. It's the same thing with doctors and nurses. They know healthcare better, know what it needs to be fixed, and that's why most of them are pro universal healthcare as well as being relatively liberal for being a kind of class aristocracy. We shouldn't be letting profits get in the way of our health and safety. Especially when travel in this country is already abysmally bad. Ultimately I hope all of you will use this as an excuse to shit on regional airflight and start bullying your local governments into building high speed rail and robust and free at point of use, public transportation. We pay a dollar more in taxes a year and it ends up bringing back American travel and the midwest. Politicians always trying to do "jobs" in the midwest without realizing no one wants to live in the fucking midwest because you have to drive 40 minutes to get anywhere that has human life beyond a shitty little highway suburb. Jobs don't do shit when no one wants the fuckin job. We need better travel. If dems want to win, they should be beating the infrastructure and healthcare drums none stop instead of being ass mad that people are calling biden old and decrepit.
