I read a RUclipsr who was getting a lot of construction equipment stolen uses two air tags on each one , one with the speaker and one without . He leaves one AirTag with its speaker in, that way they find it and throw it out thinking it’s gone , but the other one is still there with no speaker and the the thieves just think there reading the one they removed .I’m going to do this myself , as I have the first gen and removed their speakers

Not sure if this works . On the new gen , one a guy from our wood forum drills a small hole in the centre , , then injects super glue so the speaker won’t operate . This sounds iffy but interesting
I found a non invasive way to disable the speaker . My friend has a demagnetizer . I ran it threw a few times till the magnet was demagnetized, and no more sound Not serious,but makes me wonder if it would work ?
I put one in the tongue of my sons shoe when he went away on a 4 day school trip. Damn thing kept making noises, if only id seen this video before hand
hi, it may appear like so but it works without speaker …. unless you damaged some internal components while you tried to open it. You can try to reset airtag by reinserting battery 5x and then pair it again with iphone. Also try new battery…
I've removed the speaker but can still hear it when I hit Play Sound with Find My although not as loud. I thought this mod would completely silence it?
@@takeapart actually it worked to update the location but it doesn’t refresh, I left it then I removed battery again and it updated again. But now I left the location and it doesn’t update again. It just shows last updated location. Seems I would have to remove and reinsert for it to update
@@zachw566 eeh maybe that does kind of make since because it gives them a push notification and they could make it ping and they could easily find your stuff
I put one in my car to protect against theft, if it is stolen, the fact they they might receive a notification about it but wont be able to find it will probably scare them into just abandoning it.,

@@MajorTendonitis I ended up buying and removing 2 speakers from them. It's not that hard but a blade makes the job really easy

for complete silence you have to disconnect the coil as well .
@@takeapart is it just a matter of removing the copper wire? or is there anything else of consideration

There are legitimate reasons for wanting a silent AirTag, such as that someone stealing your car, bike, or bag will not be able to find it as easily.
