Yessss, thank you Yuki!! This is exactly the video I have been wanting to see! I'm sure many others agree. While they are pretty darn similar, I do lean more towards the smoother filter and tone of the Take-5, but man I would be happy with either! Appreciate you swapping studio stuff around to capture this =)
They sound the same 😄. I'm glad you've done the comparison, so I now I know that for the microscopic differences this presentation showed, it's essentially down to what you said: "if you like the SEM filter get the TEO-5...". I wanted them to be brothers, but not twins. They are twins.
@@GoodSunsetMusic No, it would not be twice the price. The only physical difference would be on the PCB; it would need more surface mount chips for the additional voices. All the costs associated with all other parts would be the same.
It's crazy what Sequential has created, their cheapest synths on the markets are among the best. I have 6 of their synths and nothing else besides some drum machines. I have a OB-6, but I can't wait to get my hands on the TEO-5.
I love them both. Unfortunately I already own a prophet 6 and a Mopho x4 and a junio 6. I think I have an enough to still fiddle around with. Maybe if I downsize ill get a Teo
Thank you for taking so much time to set this up! They definitely can be extremely close in sound with slight differences, fm, brightness, etc! With that done, I would love to know what are eachs strength sonically over the other? The extent of my knowledge is: I just know Prophets sound 'fuzzy' while Oberheims sound 'buzzy'. Like, what happens if you start on a basic patch that sounds completely similar on both... then tweak it to the extreme utilizing that specific synth's strengths over the other?
A comparison we all been waiting for. I am hoping for a Teo-5 for the SEM, but I have so much gear already. What is the point anyway? I guess I like fidelling around with the gear and it helps me understand music better. But the GAS-avoidance and the long waiting for new gear to finally arrive are two big reasons to just enjoy what I already have. Here in Europe the TEO-5 is not available for months! (Except the UK)
i really do like the sounds that come out of both, and the idea to market them for people who might not have the finances for the flagships... however, i can't get past the looks of either synths.
I think you're the only channel to have ever filmed in Panavision Cinemascope, the camera alone must have cost a fortune to hire, love it. I jest, I know you did the whole black bar thingy, but let's pretend this is the 50s and you're from the future. I wonder what would happen if you put the Take 5 through the Pro 3's SEM filter? I have both, just no room to try them lol. Thx for the upload, nice comparison. I think both do a great job at doing what they do best and both would complement each other imo.
I think you have the OSC 1 Sub volume up at the end of the video. The sub is a square wave, I think. If you turn that the off, you get a pure sine wave off OSC 1. I had to use an oscliscope to see this. That said, the weird truncated sine waves you get by having the Sub on is very attractive.
Sub was off, the volume control for sub being up doesn’t mean the sub is off as Init patches do not reflect the panel settings unless manual is on which it wasn’t. The square was cased by internal clipping or the wave forms combing. I can replicate this with the sub knob all the down as again the mixer settings are not relevant with an init patch. I don’t think I demoed the sub oscillator at all in this.
Nice comparison. Noticed the volume pots on both synths were turned all the way up -- can you explain why? I ask because my T5 output is very hot and not appreciably noisy, but my Alesis Quadrasynth Plus manual says to turn up that synth's output all the way to maximize S/N and wondered if maybe the same thing was happening here? Thanks.
The peak is very different, it is tonally more complex. The filter also sounds very different. You can load your own wavetables so you can get it to do so much more. But that said all 3 sound great.
I tried FM on my summit immediately after watching. I was unable to describe the differences I heard. I think it is through zero FM and it sounds way more like the TEO than like the Take5. But in the higher tones the FM of the summit seems to sound quite sharp and I thought the TEO sounds a bit nicer there. But it is subtle……..
@@kendoshusmiller9137 PEAK is nothing like the T5, I have both, I think the T5 is more accessible where as the PEAK as explained can get more complex, which means a bit of menu diving. I don't think you can go wrong with either, it just depends on what type of sound you're looking for.
I have Summit and Take 5 and alot other sequentials. The peak / summit is in its own league and I love it! By that I do not mean my take 5 or summit is competing more that they are so different that it's nice to have both of them.

Keep them side by side and you have a Takeo-10. 😁
Finally! I was waiting for a comparison and you nailed it.
Two very nice synths.
My only criticism of these synths is the voice count. I just wish they had 8 or 10 voices. :)
Completely agree…but then they’d be twice the price!

I think the major difference is you can get more aggressive raspy sounds out of the teo that you can't out of the prophet filter on the take.

Great video
The TEO is definitely in my future.
The TEO has the same OB-8 recreated envelopes that the OB-X8 has
I noticed that was on the spec sheet after I made my video.
J3P0 did a great video as well.

That's because they are based on the same platform.

No real reason I had them all the way up. At least on the take 5. Was just trying to see what max volume on the teo was compared to it initially.
