For a demo this is just awesome. The only actual nitpick i have is the solos are ear piercing in the mix compared to the other stuff, but other than that i think the mix itself is perfect and the rustic production was always great for this music. When death metal sounded like it came from a place other than Earth. Evil, yet cathartic.

Land of no return is a smoking gun for the very early Mayhem as far as ''influences'' go, namely not only on song-structuring. Just an evidence of how ''DM'' Mayhem were in the beginning, in spite of the crusty production. Now, as far as i realize Death as a musical concept, this is the sound of dawn's trumpets, announcing a 4 year period in which Death would rule supreme in the DM genre. What went on after Spiritual healing is another concept, so i won't mention it, but, imvho, this demo ( a bit like Necrophagia's lost 1st album of the same year) defines what Death Metal is.
