To be honest even old Shanghai metro was built in 1993, London... a lot of infrastructure is from 19th century or early 20th... Also if you want to compare wealth you can compare salaries and GDP in a country, as maybe all that money that ''in the West'' goes for salaries, healthcare etc. is used up for fancy projects in other countries that maybe are useful and maybe that means something for future but it does not indicate much that there are still 10s of millions of piss poor farmers in China and overall GDP per capita in a country is at Bulgaria's level. If a huge amount of people live in one place there will be a ton of taxpayers and especially if they cannot afford cars or there is no existing car infrastructure like in USA or old railway infra like in UK, of course you will build new railways and metro... If we come back in 20 years maybe it will change and China's GDP overall is closer to West. As it is now, still way more Chinese emigrate to USA or maybe Europe, I dunno, than vice versa.

Try using the tools at your fingertips rather than guessing.
      (It's called "the internet")
As for building infrastructure, we in the West CAN'T build at the same scale, or it seems to the same standard due to cost.
Just watch over the next 5 years as China takes the same systems and techniques, building in Africa, raising THOSE countries from poverty.
      .
What's the result going to be?
They won't be buying from the West any more.
      .
I'll misquote a line from An African leader...

In China, with a salary of 1,050 dollars (the national minimum wage), you can save almost 25% of your salary and thus be able to buy your own home.
