    RLCD is not a new technology, just a new name. It used to be called Transflective Display. It was famously used on the OLPC XO Children's laptop in the "one-laptop-per-child" campaign in 2006. Since then it has been on a bunch of outdoor GPS receivers and watches. There is a recent resurgence in interest in the technology now the price has started to come down, and its use is starting to come into consumer devices like this tablet, I guess that's why they are now using a new name for the technology.

      Not exactly the same. Transflective LCD has a semi-reflective film (which is more expensive) and backlight. But yes, it is not new.

      this Transflective Display (RLCD ) is old technology. Handheld iPAQ 3970 already had this display in 2002. Colors not the best, but no one modern display can beat this old display when the direct sommer sun shines (backlight then is even turned off and readability is perfect).

    It is absolutely not my intention to criticize, but when you conclude that it might be more interesting to develop a RLCD smartphone instead of a tablet, you miss an important point: the first target of this kind of device is the education sector. A RLCD screen offers the ability to use a tablet throughout the day at school and avoid side effects like blue light.

      Most of screens now have the ability to adjust the colour balance of the backlight which is good enough. In school environment where the rooms are bright and well lit, power source is always available, I don't think this is as important.

    $500 for this 10" reflective Android tablet or $1600 for a 32" reflective display from Sun Vision with only one HDMI input. They need to get this tablet down to the $280 - $300 range if they want to avoid pricing it directly into obsolescence.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Год назад

      Not sure what would you do with a 32" tablet.
      Pricing isn't that bad. It's the screen tech that takes most of the cost at this point. It's only slightly more expensive than Samsung slates

      I disagree, Boox is currently selling a color e-ink android tablet for exactly the same price this is targeted at $499 and that's with just 4 gig ram 64 gig memory! I want to see if the RLCD is truly as easy on the eyes as color e-ink if so that's where this kind of device will shine. I'm using a powerful OLED name brand tablet with 8gig ram to write this message so for people like me it's not about needing to be $300 .. that's missing the point. It's ALL about reducing eyestrain.

  • @প্রান্তিকচক্রবর্তী

    You didn't really get the essence of it. This specific product has a specific audience. Dry eye syndrome is a real problem, especially who had undergone laser and other related procedures. Moreover this will be a boon for programmers, developers and designers who have to stare at the screen for hours.

    it's Reflective dipslay with front light. Transflective is a Reflective+ back light ( back light can turn off) Ex: Toshiba R500 and R600. They are Transflective.....
    can you make some another video about S1? and if you have compare with another Rlcd that's great. Ex. Hisense Q5 or Tcl S8 or Fujitsu st5111. thanks

    the problem with devices without chargers is that the battery and the charging standard they are using should be paired with the correct charging brick. There are multiple charging standards out there so charging your device with the wrong brick will reduce the life span of the non-replaceable battery.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  Год назад

      Good chargers support multiple protocols so pairing isn't an issue. It's the mindset of people picking the cheapest charger for their device because they don't consider it being an important part of their electronic load out. I have been using the same charger for last 4 years. It covers phones laptops USB accessories. It's the only brick I use and take with me.
      If you are picking the cheapest item on the shelf you are bringing the risks to your devices. Buy once, absorb the cost and be happy. That's my advice.
      On the sidenote the plastic tray included space for the charger so the final package may change. Even if included I'd still fall back on my charger I bought years ago.

    I don't think it's true that this tech is competing with normal android tablet technology; for me I'm looking to get an e-ink android device to protect my eyes doing productive work; I would really like to know just how much RLCD will help with eyestrain. So in my situation, this tech is competing against devices like Boox color e-ink devices. Also I think it's not a backlight on the device but a front light, again, reducing eyestrain theoretically. yes it's neat if the battery lasts longer but i don't really think that's why anyone will go for this; it's mostly about saving our eyes. Thanks for the review, you have a nice presentation style. -Yirmeyah

      Frankly speaking, you'll do your eyes a better service by taking regular breaks, working in a well lit environment etc... In that scenario (assuming your eyesight is normal) you shouldn't experienced the fatigue. It's tempting to get the new tech and hope it will solve things for us, but as usual it's all about moderation and niuance. As I own remarkable, it's clear that this eink slate isn't competing with tablets. But Eyemoo is essentially a tablet with a different display tech and as such, it's very hard not to pitch it against whats on the market. I like bold design choices and I definietly appreciate them trying with RLCD - but there must me more to set it apart to make it into something other than a niche seller - thank you for watching!

    It has an old CPU. it's very ok for an e-reader but I won't expect it can give me a good tablet experience.

    Main question is: stylus support? This tablet would be great as note-taking device with extra perks of doing more. But as a tablet itself I don't see the reason to buy it.

    • @notenoughtech

      I have not seen any information about the dedicated stylus support capacitive styluses would work for sure due to the interface

    What's the screen ratio on this one? It looks close to 3:2 but not 100% sure.
    This tablet looks pretty good. RLCD is an interesting touch on a tablet, but I look forward to seeing how well it works on a tablet

    Hey Guys. I bought an eyemoo S1 4 days ago and they haven't shipped it yet, They don't respond to my emails either. Do you know anything else, is it a scam? What do you recommend I do?

      There is a streak of public holidays in china right now. I'd sit on this until 6th and email again if you don't hear from them. It's likely that the orders are handled through their main office.

      @@juanperezwebHello, there is also an idea to buy this tablet and use it as a second monitor. Is the delivery okay? Did you buy it through the official website and what are your impressions of using it? Thank you.

      I use the eyemoo as remote client for my pc, but i need to adjust the resolution, resize the elements, and increase text and pointer size, because 10 inch of screen its very small space. No suitable for 100% of task, but its ok for offimatic.

    Garmin is using "Transflective liquid-crystal display" ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transflective_liquid-crystal_display ) on some of the products nowadays.
    That's how a watch lasts 2 weeks as opposed to the daily charging of e.g. an Apple or Android watch.
    Of course, you don't have high-contrast OLED image, but generally when you are hiking you don't want that. You want a 2 week battery that doesn't die on you when you are "out there".
    The price is a bit prohibitive ($499 early bird), but this would be great for wall displays for home automation.
    My kitchen wall (where a display would be great) is super lit during the day and a normal screen looks pretty horrible there. This might work a lot better. But usually it is $100 tablets you throw on the wall, not $499 ones ;)
