Did you notice the Aces made their runs when she wasn’t in the game? Reese is the PG for the defense.
I mean it can be misleading when someone like Carter goes off and is barely a positive. But when a player is always the highest plus minus on her team it says something…. When she’s off the court they lose, when she’s on the court they win. She wasn’t great statistically but for some reason her team is so much better when she’s on the court. With that being said, Carter was much more important for the win last night.

Agreed, Carter did the bulk of the heavy lifting on offense, by far. Mabry, however, did make some key contributions on offense throughout much of the game too.
I watched the game, I thought she looked kind of absent. I looked at a highlight reel just now of every time she touched the ball, 3 minutes 50 seconds long, and I didn't really see anything impressive. Her skill is "I'm tall, I have long arms, and I hang out under the basket". *shrug* I mean really, I'm 6'3" and 49, I could play in the WNBA if that's star power.
It's hard to argue there's a roty race when Clark is clearly the best player of her team and Reese is not, both teams having similar records. Reese can have great games at times, but most of the times she's just a role player, and that's good. You can't force players to be what they're not.
Aliyah Boston is the best player on that time. She literally carried Caitlin Clark last game

Carter went off! Bucket after bucket. Reese got boards but it seemed like everything she tried to put up against Wilson got blocked. Yep she didn't score much until fourth quarter.
Reese had zero points in the first quarter and had only 8 points and 8 rebounds with 3:00 to go in the 4th. Reese is great at garbage time. I do not see Reese improving or expanding her game. All this game showed me was that the Aces have holes and are beatable by good teams.
If you watch, at the end she was stat padding again. Aces were in a place at the end they had to foul to get the ball back. The first time Angel went to half court to get the in bound pass and held the ball until fouled, the second she went as far away from the basket as she could and demanded the inbound pass, then wouldn't pass it, although that would run off more seconds, she dribbled around, the Ace team hesitated and saw she wouldn't pass so they had to foul her. A team does not set it up for the 75% foul shooter to be taking foul shots in that situation. 4 points in the last seconds from fouls. Give her credit she hit most if not all of them... But as I said a team does not design it so the 75% shooter protects the lead.

That was not a great performance by Reese, that was a blowout by Chennedy Carter who played like an entire quarter less than Reese. Barely above her Liberty losses, did not look like an all-star shooting 33% at the 2 feet line. Until she either learns to shoot accurately or pass the fkin ball, she's not gonna get any better. You know why they subbed Carter out?

Reese directs the defense. Watch the game-any game, and you’ll see that. Where Carter is the offensive glue, Reese is what keeps their defense together. That is the reason for the plus/minus. You won’t find the answer in the box score, or in studying offensive stats. There is 2 sides to the game. Reese was a PG in high school. A traditional PG directed the offense and defense. She was a traditional PG. If you watch closer, when she’s away from the basket she’s also helping direct the offense. The only PG that does both in the W is Cloud.
No one can guard Carter. 34 points in 30 minutes. She’s an offensive powder-keg that keeps their offense in sync. Reese is the PG of the defense.

She was so bad defensively that they swapped her with Cardoso to defend Aja because Angel was getting smoked. Angel had to defend someone in the corner that just stood there at the end of the game. A baseline defender to (I believe it was Gray) that literally didn't impact the defense. Offense, she barely did anything but set a couple of screens for the player that actually did work. When they tried to go for her own plays, she got destroyed by Aja. So, they stopped even going to her.
The reality is that Aces came out cold and disorganized and Sky clamped up with Mabrey playing a high energy game. Then they got up 20+ and Angel happened to be there...
When they added in players like Dana Evans, the Aces came back with Hayes doing work. Carter was rested and then came back and won the game for them.
Angel got torched when she "came back" into the game trying to stop the Aces during their run--she got scored on like 3 to 4 plays in a row. They then did some other changes and Hayes eventually got injured and that changed the game because Carter took over and scored and sealed the win. Aces never really scored at the end: Plum, Young, Wilson all sucked.
Reese got a simple +10 at the end of the game just by being on the court. She barely made it up and down the court.

Angel Reese is the female Reggie Evans (a Goated role player). Until she gets a deeper offensive bag, she won’t be a game changer. She’s shown flashes like in the game where she owned Nalyssa Smith, but she hasn’t consistently replicated that especially against more veteran bigs.

The Sky lost all their players from last year except 3, and one of those 3 is gone for the season, this is a brand new team with 2 starting rookies who missed half the games already….the Fever on the other hand have 2 returning all stars (Mitchell and Boston) + CC and they still are under .500 and basically are tied with the Sky for a playoff spot, so eat dust you either illegal or trailer 🗑️

AR had 7 points / 6 rebounds with 2 mins left. The game was out of hand. Yet AR is +26 and in position to be ROTY.
I think Angel Reese is a glorified role player. She can rebound like no other, and takes all the arrows in the media for the team.
She was good defensively but her offense is predictable. She has to work on that.
Also thank God for Maybry, Kennedy & Cardoso. They were so hot they made up for all of Angel's early offensive empty possessions. And Cardoso bailed her out several time on defense. And yes I watched the entire game. 1 key rebound & put back and glory seeking free throws
Three cheers for pointing out the difference! Even if A.R. wins the ROTY contest, and good on her if she does, there's no comparing the two, not because C.C. is "better" that A.R. Better at what? They're different animals. C.C. is a field general and mastermind. A.R. is a high performing battalion leader with a particular set of skills. And A.R. has a commander who supports her while C.C. has to perform for two commanders who want to control her and, being their subordinate, she has to obey and not stray too far from their command. Randy Moss was a great wideout but Tom Brady is the GOAT.

It's hard to take seriously or respect anyone that thinks Reese is really in a ROTY race with CC. The impact and performance of CC is so far above anything that anyone has done in the wnba ever leaves her as the only choice, period. Reese's team at this point is about the same with or without her. Standing around under the rim. She is very unathletic and has that amazing 1" vertical. Angel Reese is why the wnba never grew in the first place. Her game just isn't exciting, but "old school" wnba, and that garbage was just unwatchable.

In this particular game I noted Wilson padding her reb. at one point getting 3 reb in a row before scoring , so it happens. Stat readings can be misleading at times.
