I love that the priest wanted to brush aside their issue to tell the new joke he heard and revels in the punchline with Elaine, but the devil horns--mildly funny, certainly not 'genius'.

I saw Jerry Seinfeld talking about Patrick Warburton once. He said that Puddy's whole shtick - the facial expression, the way he speaks, the way he stands etc...that was ALL Warburton, and they fell about laughing when he started doing it.
Julia’s awesome, but it definitely isn’t her. Seinfeld was the biggest show in TV history by this point, the main four were making millions per episode. They had a whole team of the best writers in the industry working for them and coming up with these lines.

Puddy is an auto mechanic, so he is not lazy, or dumb. But the scene where he was sitting in his living room and Kramer called to ask about the garbage disposal was epic!
Now I know why I love this show so much ~ They are all like brothers & sisters in an hysterical family ~ hysterically funny ~ This is how young professionals were living ~ getting married much much later ~ we looked after each other like family ~ no one had kids yet ~ we were each others kids still ~ Elaine is definitely the bratty sister ~ Kramer's the older geeked out brother ~ Newman is the repulsive sibling & Jerry is the most normal & handsome brother & George is just George a compulsive liar but actually harmless & a good tag a long brother ~
Elaine - "So is it a problem that I'm not religious?" Puddy - "Not for me." Elaine - "Why not"?! Puddy - "Cause I'm not the one goin to Hell." Soooooo SAD!!!!
By this time in the series, with all the established history, and everything the audience knew and was used to....the dialogue required zero exposition, and had become so pared down, to funny, that it was like poetry haiku really
