Hello and thanks for watching SUMO PRIME TIME. There are 12 exercises in all and I found out that some of them are really hard to do, so please do not try too hard. Doing these exercises will stimulate and strengthen many parts of your body so I highly recommend you to keep giving it a try at your own pace. We'll try to introduce the other 8 exercises in the near future so stay tuned. What's amazing about the pro rikishi is that they aren't just big and strong, but their bodies are so flexible, resilient and durable. With no question, their daily routine of doing sumo basic exercises and trainings help them become fit, energetic and powerful. So again, please keep doing these exercises to make yourself fit and healthy. I look forward to seeing you do some shiko foot stampings in front of me when I get a chance to meet you in the future. Arigato always and please keep watching SUMO PRIME TIME!
@@Chrree Those who don't become instantly addicted to sumo ( like us ) all seem to have that negative stereotype of rikishes. Their common stupid sentence when asked why they don't like the sport is, "It's just obese guys in diapers pushing each other around. It's not a sport." I believe the psychiatric term for ppl who don't let facts change their mind set is COGNITIVE DISSONANCE. I'm really happy with the content Sumo Prime Time has put together so far. There was some concern it would bully fan channels and creators out of the way, but instead it provides real behind the scenes coverage you literally can't get elsewhere because they don't have access.
Would be cool to follow some new recruits through their time at this sumo training school, Hiro. You could revisit them throughout their time there and do catch ups.
I am loving the fact that the JSA is starting to involve fans in things regarding Sumo, it's popularity has waned a bit over the years. Watching the public getting involved with the Shiko World Record attempt I saw many younger folks and kids, this is exactly what they need to do to get the next generation of Sumo Rikishi into the sport, creating an open and welcoming place for them to come too and learn and succeed. Just my thoughts. Hiro can be a bit on the obnoxious side when he does commentary but when he is doing something like this it seems he gets deep into it and it fits his personality much better.
The matawari exercise reminded me of comedy pro wrestling when Sazanami practically flattened Hiro underneath him! I definitely have to try some of these exercises to get into better shape, the nice thing is many people can do some of these anywhere
I live in Canada, and have never attempted Sumo, but lately I have been watching several videos on the Sport of Sumo. I enjoy seeing these athletes, and in seeing these exercises naturally I had to try them myself. I could not believe the stretch I was receiving, and the strength required to perform these exercises. Thank you for allowing us a glimpse into the world of Sumo, and providing me with some VERY effective exercises I can practice on my own.
I might just try these with my other stretches next time. Also Hiro is a great actor, this channel is really entertaining and insightful. Thank you for all the behind the scenes coverage! I'm always curious about my favorite rikishi routines and the Japanese culture as a whole.
Being a big guy who weight trains and knowing a lot of other big dudes who weight train, I know just how hard it can be to remain flexible at sizes above 300 lb. The mere fact that most sumo between 300-450 lb can still do the splits is very impressive to me.
What has always impressed me, besides flexibility, is their knowledge of how to take a fall and roll without injury. Prob they are trained in these maneuvers when they first come to sumo. The current prime example of this athleticism, I think, is Ura. He seems to move more like a dancer or a gymnast. My God I adore him ❤.
@@emp100k Of course Ura is 'nimble' but also (be still my heart) ebullient, winsome, good looking and joyful. At my age, my only daydream would be to be Ura's grandma and spoil him in every way.....cooking, pampering, encouraging - etc. etc. ❤ I've always liked you big guys cause y'all give the BEST hugs 😊. 💋
My knees have been bad for years. Use to do marathons now I sit in an office all day so squats and deadlifts are offline. However, started doing Shiko a few weeks ago. Low impact great workout easy on knees with toes pointed out. Wish this was more prevalent in the US, could have benefitted from it years ago.
Very interesting video. Unfortunately there are only a few sumo clubs here in Germany so it is difficult to practice this sport and to learn how to do all those techniques. I really appreciate videos teaching me how to do it.
This channel is better than other sumo channels that only focus on sumo match content, this channel is not only about sumo match but it's also about sumo culture.😊
Thank you for showing us these really cool Sumo exercises Hiro and Kabutoyama Oyakata !!! I will definitely be adding these exercises to my daily routine and I can't wait to see the 8 other exercises in the future !!!
This is a great stuff..and so well thought out to have a nicely built compact wrestler like Sazanami to demonstrate the move. Now he is a ex-Makushita and now Sandanme rikishi. If he is so strong, one cannot fathom the kind of brutal impact a guy like Tamawashi or the yokuzuna's can bring to a bout. Its terrifying to get one of their thrusts on an ordinary person's body...most likely you will receive cracked ribs or pass out from blunt trauma
There is a sumo club near me that i plan on joining soon. The flexability is one of the reasons i am interested to start practiceing sum. In almost 40 and my flexability has always been very poor.
Amazing video! I already had so much respect for the sumo wrestlers! Now it gives me access to what they do to be so powerful! Thank you for producing this video which make Sumo wrestling even more interesting to watch! I find so much similarities between the approach for learning about how to play go and sumo both have simple rules easy to learn yet they both take a life time and beyond to master them. 👍👍👍👍
As 30 years practicing judo, (I'm 42) I'm gonna put some parts in my training... (I suffer lower back pain, from my office working hours) and i ve to leave the tatami...but I'm pretty sure this is gonna help me. Tkns for ur help!
My knees hurt just from watching this. I'd advise not to attempt those if you have knee issues already, or check with a doctor first if there is no danger. Those lower body exercises are VERY taxing. The upper body ones, on the other hand, can probably be done by anyone's grandma safely.

Why is the shiko Hiro is taught different to the way the rikishi does it?
Their flexibility is what shocked me the most when I first started watching sumo. Super underrated athletes.
Same here.. never thought the sumo guy could easily do 5:47 😁
Now I wonder if other bigger sumo guy also this flexible.. 🙄
Yea, I had someone replying to a comment of mine saying that rikishi are just fat and slow. Even telling him otherwise wouldn't change his mind.
and you can tell Hiro is just hamming it up. He's obviously in great shape and flexible himself. Most of us would snap in half if we tried Matawari.

I love how Hiro pretends he's weak, stiff, and out of shape, but he has massive calves and is extremely flexible.

The more Sumo content the better :) doesn't seem to have taken from other channels at all just fits right in nicely
Hiro seems to really enjoy doing this series. It's great to see his enthusiasm.
When Hiro tries seme-no-kata at 8:23, the coach tries to contain his laughter. They had to cut the scene before it became silly.
I would have missed that! Thanks for pointing it out - I got a good laugh, myself.
@@youremakingprogress144 You are quite welcome! I found enjoyment in the moment as well.
It was a very entertaining sequence to behold.

There is an incredible amount of training and discipline that goes into this sport, I am increasingly amazed by it.

I respect Hiro for going through that painful looking matawari exercise! I have tried them and it's certainly not easy doing it properly!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This channel is a great fit for Hiro and his personality.
the hip flexibility is gold! and the presenter had really good one for the pancake he did wow 👏🏻
Awesome video Hiro! Thank you sumo prime time. I will try all the exercises at home.

Thank you.
Sumo is really something special.
I never miss the sumo I love it I’m learning all the names of the wrestlers my favourite is tamawashi and it was hakaho but he has retired ❤️❤️🇮🇪🇮🇪
Great video, love this Hiro!

What shocked me the most is how flexible Hiro Morita San is!!!
I was searching for exercices to pratice at home in the breaks between study sessions.
Thank you very much❤!

Hiro is the best. I love these videos so much
It is very interesting to learn about sumo wrestlers' training with dumbbells and our weights! Make a whole issue about it! Thank you

Hiro Morita, very good shikko and very good stretching! You are learning sumo.
Thanks for the exercises! I do okay with shiko but have a looong way to go with matawari. Doing shiko cleared up some knee issues I was having.
Impatient to watch the rest of the exercise. I practice some of those since a couple of month. I'd like to learn more exercise. Thx for this

6:24 That's a brokeback moment in sumo history. The way he groans is just super porny.
Looking forward to the follow-up video(s)!
They're going to break poor Hiro haha! Great work!
I just started doing shiko s as of monday......legs are still sore. I did 35 min of shiko and went up to 45 min, tomorrow ill shoot for 55 min
The calves on Hiro could give Myogiryu a run for his money
Majestic !
I love this
Thanks 🙏
awesome
6.16 poor chris🤣...for a non rikishi, your flexibility is amazing🙏
Holy Sumo Stretch Batman!!!
I feel like when I really nail the shiko my outer hip gets exhausted fast, I need to keep doing them.
Hiro has some ripped calf muscles

Hiro, you have got good calve muscle!!
How many repetitions of any exercise ? thank you

20 % ? are you crazy ? with 20% you wouldnt have man boobs
Thank you sumo prime time
What's with the girl prance onto the Doyo? A little more manly please...
