Since I've bought my ZR2, I've received the most compliments on my truck than I have for any other vehicle I've ever owned. You have to see it in real life. The dark red paint (Cajun Tintcoat, they call it) looks especially sharp on the ZR2.
I was thinking I would go with a laser blue zr2. My first truck was a 2003 s10 zr2, laser blue. I thought I'd get the same color as my old truck as a throwback (the newer laser blue is a bit brighter of a blue, but it's okay because it still looks sharp). Thing is, Imreally like the Cajun red. Ugh haha. I know I want this truck but I'm not settled on the color just yet.
The blue has changed for 2018 models; it's more blue. The older blue (I forgot what they called it) was nicknamed "blurple" because it looked blue, but sometimes in the right light, looked a bit purple.
Chevy isn't really known for making super rugged, off-road trucks. Job well done here. It's nice that they have a front-locker, that's something the Tacoma TRD Pro doesn't have.
I really liked seeing the smile on the reviewers face as he cruised quickly through the corners and expressed how flat the truck was and added that he preferred it to the raptor. A very impressive review for my interests.
Very nice overall review. Beauty will always remain in the eye of the beholder, but by every objective measurement Chevy knocked this one out of the park. The value and capability for the money is, presently, unmatched. Looking forward to getting mine.
I test drove a non Z71, Crew Cab Short Box with the V6 and though the engine felt sluggish. You had to wind it out or romp on it quite a bit to feel like it pulled anywhere decent.
Thank you. Really wanted to see a full "on road" review of this vehicle. Most of the miles will be run on pavement, for most buyers. Plus there are plenty of off road reviews posted. I'm waiting for the Wrangler pickup and Ford Ranger to hit the market, next year. That should give them a year to work out any bugs and put these on sale. Good job on your review.
Chevy really needs to build an SUV based on this chassis & suspension, I'm sure it's going to sell really well. There are people like me, who doesn't like the FWD-based crosssovers or a long pickup, and we really hope there's something to choose from other than the upcoming Ford Bronco.
My wife and I love our ZR2. The handling and pick up speed are awesome. The only 2 things that slightly disappointed me about this truck was the hood scoop is only for decoration and the rock rails don't fold out to double as running boards to make it easier to get in and out of. Other than those 2 minor complaints, this truck is just a great design.
It's crazy how tall these are in person. They made the stance just perfect, I also sat in one (it was the base model though) and it was alright, but the loaded model is much much nicer. My dream truck
Leased a black Camaro SS after your review of a '16 Camaro SS. Lease is up and now might lease a '19 ZR2. Or a Tacoma TRD Offroad. Whoever has the better lease deal!
Can you say overpriced !!! That is why I bought my Frontier Pro4x. Paid $30,000. You can't come close to that with a Tacoma either. The Zr2 does have the front locker which is nice but the Pro4x does have another system called 4 wheel als which can direct power to any wheel by using the abs to limit wheel spin. It works well. There is a video on you tube with a Tacoma and Frontier going up a hill covered in ice. Tacoma can't make it, Frontier does.
I wish they came manual. Tacoma's have that option but the problems they've been having are not worth the risk. This would be the only truck I'd consider if I was ever going to sell the 1st gen Tacoma
subaruwrxfan true not on the zr2 but for the regular Colorado you can get a crew cab with the long box. If you go for RWD and a work truck platform you can also get a stick shift too as an option with the 4cyl gas motor.
i traded my 2016 camaro 2 ss for the zr2 colorado 2018 same color as the one u were reviewing deepwood green metallic and it just an awesome truck i just got it on labor day its the short box crew cab had a sticker of 44,085.00
A good thing about not having that stupid push button start it is an actual key you don't have to put your foot on the brake to start And if your Key fobs battery dies you can still get into the darn truck That's why I like this truck it's still got modern aspects But yet not too much it's still simple less stuff to go wrong
Derek Strickland the Z71's offroad capability with that huge front diffuser is abysmal. The only difference between the 4x4 and the Z71 is different tires and shocks.
I'm stuck between this the taco pro. The taco has a stick, but this is fun to drive. I've tested both and a used tundra trd. Prefer this but want a stick so bad.
danthebig__Z :v I am going to. Gotta wait for MY2018 though, as most are gone and the boring colors are left. I want the blue or red. I'd get orange if they had it for the zr2 package.
Low to mid $40K range... for a small truck... Did you ever think you'd see the day? I don't know what's changed but vehicles have gotten WAY too expensive. I'll never buy a new vehicle again.
I think that is a very good-looking pickup truck with a lot of capability but I would like to see an aftermarket exhaust system on it just to make it stand out from the crowd a bit more
subaruwrxfan I did see they offer and optional exhaust for the Chevy Sonic but on something extreme like this it should come from the factory and incorporated into the price making the financing a little easier.
Feels as good as a Raptor!? As much as a love the ZR2, plus can't wait till the day I trade in my Z71 Ext Cab Colorado V6,4x4, I'm on a ZR2. There is no way a ZR2 is better than a Raptor!!! Except for mileage! And maybe maneuverability!!
Cool truck. Glad to see competition to challenge Toyota. The basic Tacoma TRD off road has a better approach angle and more ground clearance. Not a competition for the Tacoma TRD Pro.
Gave you a thumbs up bc you did a good job. Toyota not as capable??? I know your not a truck guy but take a look at the Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO I think you will find it just as capable. Keep up the good work!
Saw one of these on the road yesterday, it looked badass
I didn't think they could make the Colorado look any sexier, that's my next truck!
Michael Perrone you sure sound like a recent Chevy ad
A recent Chevy ad because he likes it? Okaaaay. I think it's pretty hot as well. Hmmm, maybe Chevy will give me a stipend?
Your reviews are the best; the most reliable when it comes to thorough content & avoiding the dealer until I narrow the field. Thank you sir!
Nice review. Chevy has come a long way in the last 10 years. I'm a fan.

ugly before better
I really liked seeing the smile on the reviewers face as he cruised quickly through the corners and expressed how flat the truck was and added that he preferred it to the raptor. A very impressive review for my interests.
Usually not a big Chevy fan but looks like a nice truck - knowing what discounts you can get on many GM products might be worth a look-see....
Scott Warmbier I just bought one 2 weeks ago and let me tell you dude it's a bad ass ride to off-road
Savage Goku Overall do you like it, including regular street use? Congrats!
Awesome looking and very capable truck. A guy in my neighborhood bought one and he loves it! Looks cool in person. Nice review!
Very nice overall review. Beauty will always remain in the eye of the beholder, but by every objective measurement Chevy knocked this one out of the park. The value and capability for the money is, presently, unmatched. Looking forward to getting mine.
Those tubular bars are rock guards.
Shane's videos keep getting better and better. Great review Shane!
I kinda like this truck. Great review
I test drove a non Z71, Crew Cab Short Box with the V6 and though the engine felt sluggish. You had to wind it out or romp on it quite a bit to feel like it pulled anywhere decent.

Does it feel rough slightly shaky at 75mph+? I get a feeling mine does
My wife and I love our ZR2. The handling and pick up speed are awesome. I fell in love with this truck the first time I seen it. Looks amazing.! Every edge counts.! Perfect for me.!
Great job, appreciate the on-road comments, as everyone else only takes this version off-road.
Be cool if they put a V-8 in this truck.
No, that's more for the Silverado line-up
Nope
Peter Marino I know right
A 5.3 V8 so you can add the turbo. Keep your Silverado, it weighs way more than this.
Smaller truck V8 equals more fun you dork.
It's crazy how tall these are in person. They made the stance just perfect, I also sat in one (it was the base model though) and it was alright, but the loaded model is much much nicer. My dream truck
Pretty good looking truck
Nice review, Matt! Just started thinking about picking up a diesel one of these...hmmmm, decisions decisions.
8:10 Charlie Kelly starts driving
What size are the tires and rim
will GM be able to build enough to match demand, regular colorados are few and far between,zr2 are going to be even harder to find on dealers lots
your last review was the 6 speed automatic. how do you like the 8 speed in comparison?
I honestly didn't notice much of a difference.
subaruwrxfan oh ok I'm surprised fuel economy stayed the same and combined went down 1
Getting a Bison this year. So stoked!
It has no gas cap................ any way to fix this??
I LOVE THE CHEVY COLORADO! ITS SO COOL😎!
I skipped the first 5-6 indexes when I searched "2018 Chevrolet Colorado " just to see my man Matt Maran review this car
can the drive seat raise?
I want 1 of these in a manual but the v6 doesn't offer
FINALLY, thanks for the review!
is it true they are making a Silverado zr2?
Leased a black Camaro SS after your review of a '16 Camaro SS. Lease is up and now might lease a '19 ZR2. Or a Tacoma TRD Offroad. Whoever has the better lease deal!
How was the real world mpg?
This guy looks like the subaruwrxfan guy
Can you say overpriced !!! That is why I bought my Frontier Pro4x. Paid $30,000. You can't come close to that with a Tacoma either. 2017 and still no Push To Start button?
I wish they came manual. Tacoma's have that option but the problems they've been having are not worth the risk. This would be the only truck I'd consider if I was ever going to sell the 1st gen Tacoma
Dang that actually looks really sweet 😭
You going to test the diesel?
Like everything but the front. It looks like it had its lower jaw removed.
What mpg did you get!
what is with the ads that we cannot get rid of? not nice covers video ; quite intrusive.
It says zr2 ininstantly makes a midsize cost more than a full size
?Y NO PUSH BUTTON START?
you can get the crew cab with a long box
Not on the ZR2 trim. At least according to the Build site on chevrolet.com
subaruwrxfan true not on the zr2 but for the regular Colorado you can get a crew cab with the long box. If you go for RWD and a work truck platform you can also get a stick shift too as an option with the 4cyl gas motor.
I think I just found my next truck .
ugly before better
How? This isn't a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road 4x4?????
Do you think you will get your hands on a diesel Colorado?
I already reviewed the diesel GMC Canyon which is basically the same, just a little nicer on the interior.
subaruwrxfan OH. Well, I will check that out! Thanks Subaruwrxfan!
Very nice truck. I'm slowly becoming a truck guy and I'd get one of these.
i traded my 2016 camaro 2 ss for the zr2 colorado 2018 same color as the one u were reviewing deepwood green metallic and it just an awesome truck i just got it on labor day its the short box crew cab had a sticker of 44,085.00
Z do you regret it
What made you go from a sports car to a truck? They are total opposites.
I'll get that ZR2 over the Tacoma TRD PRO...
Nice content!
Do a video on the diesel one!!! I'm not sure which to get yet.... (:
Wouldve been cool if they put a v8 in it or the twin turbo 3.6 from like a ATS V
Those tubular bars are rocker panels
A good thing about not having that stupid push button start it is an actual key you don't have to put your foot on the brake to start And if your Key fobs battery dies you can still get into the darn truck That's why I like this truck it's still got modern aspects But yet not too much it's still simple less stuff to go wrong
Did google RUclips iPhone app change anyone else's comment placement on their iphone? It took me forever to find where the comment were..
What is your height?
I wish they had a turbo 6 cylinder or the 5.3 v8 that would be bad ass
You should do the review of the zr2 2.8 duramax Colorado would love to see the comparison.
supercharger would be great.
I wish you could get an HUD on Canyons and Colorado's...
Z71 package is a joke. This ZR2 is what the Z71 one should have been.
Wunderkind uh what?
Derek Strickland the Z71's offroad capability with that huge front diffuser is abysmal. The only difference between the 4x4 and the Z71 is different tires and shocks.
Wunderkind you said ZL1 dip shit.
Derek Strickland before this came out (I still think this btw), the Tacoma offfroad is the way to go for midsize offroading.
Derek Strickland Hey, no need for names. I corrected myself.
Everyone hates on the image... I think it's looks cool it has a semi raptor look
The standard Colorado does 6.1 0-60 (v6).. whatcha talkn' bout Willis
Badass looking little truck
Very nice. Best looking and most capable mid-size no doubt. Expensive though.
I'm stuck between this the taco pro. The taco has a stick, but this is fun to drive. I've tested both and a used tundra trd. Prefer this but want a stick so bad.
Praise Kek get a diesel Colorado zr2
Praise Kek get the Colorado with the baby duramax
danthebig__Z :v I am going to. Gotta wait for MY2018 though, as most are gone and the boring colors are left. I want the blue or red. I'd get orange if they had it for the zr2 package.
Dodge 318 Cummins I will. That thing is a beast.
Praise Kek The trd pro in a manual is more fun to drive imo. the interior on this zr2 too plain and boring.
Awesome! Review thanks for sharing
That is one good looking truck!
Low to mid $40K range... for a small truck... Did you ever think you'd see the day? I don't know what's changed but vehicles have gotten WAY too expensive. I'll never buy a new vehicle again.
Smells like broke in here
Do a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road next to this ZR2 , My money is on the Taco....
0-60 in a 4x4 V6 is 6.1 seconds. www.caranddriver.com/chevrolet/colorado
Manual transmission Tacoma Trd off-road or Pro anyday over this bucket of bolts.
8:05 for an unamused backroad acceleration.
I wish the truck would come with cloth seats and less of the interior features for a lower price
I wish they would put the 5.3 in it
"What's up everything subergjilngfx fan here!"
Good job Chevy, now put the 5.3 V8 in it with a aggressive exhaust note.
Anybody bought one of these out there? If so, thoughts please. Great review Matt!
Its lighter than the F150 Raptor but heavier than the Toyota Tacoma TRD pro but it’s 308 Horsepower and decent amount of torque makes up for that
Better looking than the upcoming Ranger. V6 a big plus......
This is the next vehicle I will get!
The mpg on this truck is crazy...
I think that is a very good-looking pickup truck with a lot of capability but I would like to see an aftermarket exhaust system on it just to make it stand out from the crowd a bit more
Chevy offers an exhaust for these too. I'm sure that would help with the sound.
subaruwrxfan I did see they offer and optional exhaust for the Chevy Sonic but on something extreme like this it should come from the factory and incorporated into the price making the financing a little easier.
How do you say your name so fast in every video????!!!
Kevin Voyer Raptors are a +$100,000 CDN. The categories the Raptors would lose to a ZR2 is in size and price.
I know where you were driving that Colorado, i see that Edward's Ice Cream Shop
Cool truck. Glad to see competition to challenge Toyota. The basic Tacoma TRD off road has a better approach angle and more ground clearance. Not a competition for the Tacoma TRD Pro.
Brandon H The multimatic shock tech. comes from formula 1 racing - sorry the trd pro is old school in comparison.
G Man and on top of that, it had a front and rear locker where I think the TRD Pro only had a rear locker. Or only a front, can't remember exactly
Hayden Briggs exactly. The zr2 Is cleaning up in literally every RUclips matchup.
Except when your trd pro has transmission issues
TRD is way more expensive
Ranger Raptor competition??
Jose Angel Zambada Ranger
Love it!
I swear everytime I see this guy test the acceleration on a car he gets so giddy lol.
This guy looks like he's more of a Prius guy!
How does it compare to a Honda Ridgeline... on the road?
Has an 8 speed transmission but it's geared like a 5 speed. Damn fuel economy regulations.
Gave you a thumbs up bc you did a good job. Toyota not as capable??? I know your not a truck guy but take a look at the Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO I think you will find it just as capable. Keep up the good work!
