    Thanks for the video. My husband and I learned a lot. We live in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We have 3 HUGE Sago palms. The female has the big "seed pocket" and we were wondering what it was. Your video was great!

    There are a few sago palms trees on the front of my house. Once I collected the seeds from a female flower and threw them into the water and all floated. THE FEMALE FLOWER WAS NOT POLLINATED. Last year a female palm blossomed at my friends and a boy at my place. I collected the pollen from boy and spilled on the female flower. We collected over 200 seeds and only 5 floated. Because was winter in Sydney I planted only 100 seeds following instructions from this video. Today after 8 months 82 have roots. This year on the front of my house male palm bloomed again next to female flower. Pollination was exceptionally easy this time.

    Marius, Thank you so much for your wonderful video. I live in Australia and until I found this web page I had no idea what I had in my backyard. I have a King Sego Palm, 3 actually. And I didnt know what the heck those red things in the middle were. After watching your video I immediatly went outside and cleaned the plant up..I must have had over 200 seeds. They were dried out & old because they were left too long Im sure..anyway..thank you so much for helping me..I will keep watching. Helena

    Awesome video, Marius! We have 3 50 year old King Sagos (all female) in front of our Las Vegas, Nevada home (HOT) and one of these Gals is around 8-9 feet tall...she seeds every year. I NEVER knew about harvesting the seeds or how to know if they're viable or not. Well Done!

    I chopped the top off mine when I removed the bulb with seeds. Including the new leaves. I didn't know how they were new leaves . I pruned it all flat. What should I do now? Did I damage it?

    Thank you for your video - I just moved into a house that has a mature female sago in the yard. The gardner butchered it by removing all the palm fronds except the top row making it look like a palm tree - how long do you think it will take to fill back in with more fronds? I am so bummed and it looks terrible

    thank you so much. I bought two of these when I moved into this house about 12 years ago. Planted them about 4 feet apart (plants were about 18') near the A/C unit. One of them is about twice as big as the other -(now I know it is a female). Is that normal? You have just let me know that my larger plant is a female ( I have NEVER seen the female "cone" before) And my Male plant has 2 cones and a cone that I took off that was dead. Thank you so much. And I need to add that I completely appreciate the information on these being poisonous for dogs.

    I gather the little one I bought at the garden center is female and WOW I dont to grow them for profit just like to leave it for my son and kids as a history plants a male and a female he was shocked when I showed him your videos and he to me he would be old also when it bloomed I am 70 so I will never know. I wish I had a male seed just to make sure he has one of each. I was told I more than likely have a female plant if not bought from a grower. Bless you.

  • @TheMargo420

    You are awesome all these years later! I gathered some seeds from a plant I saw beside a bank where I was staying in South ALABAMA. First I saw the male plant and sent a pic to my Sister. She looked it up and it was a male she said there has to be a male and female present to create seeds. Of course I went and looked and found 2 'layers' where the female had produced seeds. I took from both layers. I plan on following your advice on how to clean, store and plant them. Thank you. I hope that I hit the payload. NOBODY even knows what is happening here. They paid a landscaper ,I feel sure ,to plant them but nobody has harvested the seeds. I hope I got some good ones. Does size matter when gathering the seeds? I got a few small ones and some that looked 'moldy'? Thank you and please do not go away.

    • @TheMargo420
      @TheMargo420 3 года назад

      The small ones were not viable. I ended up with 32 viable seeds from 2 different 'layers' of froms.I gather that some are 4 years old and some are 2? There was no bloom on top of plant.

    I have 2 male palms in the backyard w/1 flower ea and both I think kinda dried. But as I shake them, there's still some pollen dropping down more like dust. Then I have 2 female palms in the front yard with their flower already closed.
    Question is, how do I know if the seeds has been naturally pollinated and how do I know the seeds will be viable? Since the female flowers are already closed, is it too late to cut off the male flower and pollinate the female flower myself? Thank you.

    Aren't cycads weird?! That's what makes them interesting to me. Mine are getting bigger, some might be able to produce soon. I have about a dozen Emperor sagos and some other weird species. But I plan to move to the Brenham area where there is dirt and less deer! Bedrock all over the place here in the Austin area, I need dirt. I have some in pots but I'm going to have to dig some up also. Thanks for the vid.

    is there a time of year best to trim back, to de-seed, to plant? I live in Houston and these hearty cycads appear to do well despite drought and freezes. I have also read their seeds are poisonous but nothing is said about this - for humans and pets - is this a concern? thanks for any information.

    Thank you for your great videos. How do I know when it is the right time to remove the seeds? I have a large female plant in my yard. I have successfully planted a few seeds in the past two cycles. My neighbor has a male plant, so it flowers regularly. I live in Houston. You say mid to end of January to harvest. She is in full bloom now since beginning of December I guess. I love these plants. They are so easy to take care of since they need little care. She has lots of seeds and I'd like to take advantage but want to do it at the right time. Can you advise?
