@@Northstar-Media that's not stupid, that's mutual respect amongst badasses, notice how Mike didn't sit before he was asked to, Mike showed him respect and that's all gangsters care about, respect and power
I've said it before but I found Mike's grudge against Hector to be somewhat ironic because at no other point had Hector been so fair & reasonable when dealing with an adversary
@0 1 There are no lines that can't be crossed with cartel scum. What I meant was that hector was being reasonable by his own scumbag standards. Hector uncharacteristically came to Mike diplomatically under the guise of a concerned old uncle and didn't threaten his family until Mike staunch refusal to cooperate & in this scene he respects Mike's courage enough to agree to 10 times what he had initially offered him. Hector then honors the deal and leaves Mike and his family alone. A more dishonorable villain would have still killed Mike & maybe even his family as well simply for giving him a hard time. Instead though it's Mike who holds a grudge and seeks revenge.
@@rickyandreou He probably sympathized with Mike a bit. During their first meeting, Hector personally apologizes for Tuco's behavior and offers to force him to apologize after getting out of prison. @@mike353 Yes "Mike" It's obvious why Hector didn't kill Mike before he changed his story but once he gave his testimony & the Tuco was sentenced it was a done deal. Mike turning up dead wouldn't be enough to reverse Tuco's sentence after the fact, based on suspicion alone.

Rules of the cartel? That's literally life dude. When you get called into your manager's office, you wait for permission to sit. When you're at a job interview, you wait for permission to sit. This is universal when dealing with management of any kind.
If you walk into any meeting and sit without waiting for the offer to sit, you need to learn manners. Doing this has gotten me at least one job for sure. Keep eye contact while talking and listening. I learned this in high school while doing mock interviews. Also, this works for lying as well. Never look down and to the side, it shows your eyes are searching for a thought or excuse. Keep eye contact. Keep your answers and questions short and to the point, enough to get what you want without being rude.
@@miker4147 He really is a great actor and singer as well. Criminal how people don't pay attention much to this show as much as Breaking Bad. I hope Season 6 will be a breakthrough.
absolutely loved this scene. walking in quietly, waiting to be seated before speaking, letting don hector speak first, nothing but respect from mike here. no wonder don hector gave him the money.
Hector sees himself in Mike. Well aware of the danger but having no fear. Hector himself allowes Mike to keep his gun even when Mike goes for his gun he again stands his men down. Awesome scene!
Ironically enough Hector showed more respect towards Mike in this scene than he did in the diner where he faked politeness and apologies. Salamancas are all about respect being earned through toughness, and Mike demonstrated that perfectly.
It’s important to the scene that Mike patiently waited Hector’s invitation to sit. Recall that Hector asked his permission to sit with him at the diner in their first meeting. And while Hector was probably using the idea of Tuco “learning respect for his elders” as a front, Hector still meant that it matters, and even then probably appreciated the guts Mike showed in out-foxing his nephew Also I appreciate the contrast in their bright daytime meeting at the diner, followed by this dark tense evening meeting that followed
I find it both incredible and hilarious that these two badass so far unkillable men are both going to meet their end in the hand of a guy who is currently teaching covalent bonds in a highschool.
this scene made no sense to me. Why would Salamanca be scared that this guy shoots them if his nephews sit here and can shoot the motherfucker at any given second? Shit's too unrealisitc and retarded
What I love about this scene is the fact that despite at first glance it looks as though Mike is at a severe disadvantage, he actually is holding all the cards. He knows that Hector needs him alive in order to keep Tuco's sentence light and as such can't decline his offer, which allows Mike to exploit how much Hector is willing to pay to keep his nephew from such a lofty sentence since Hector's only other option is to kill Mike and then Tuco goes to prison for around a decade. Such amazing writing
Such slight hand movements that say so much. Hector with the delayed and near insignificant hand movement to tell him to sit and Mike almost negligible head nod in agreement at the end. Very good acting.
I love this scene and all characters played so well, each in his own way and you can see the history of each character and what they're doing there, even Nacho's voice buckles a bit when he realized Mike is with a gun. Hector's playing this scene was just fabulous and Mikes as well. Awesomely written and well executed scene.
i think it's really good writing how both hector and tuco are impressed and won over by high risk negotiations, here with mike and hector, and then later with walt's "this... is not meth." moment. runs in the salamanca blood
Have y'all noticed how when Hector asks Nacho about the wire, he asks in Spanish and initially Nacho replies in Spanish, but then when he lets him know that Mike has a gun, he switches to English? Nacho was cooperating with Mike obviously, so maybe he did that cause he wasn't sure whether Mike speaks Spanish, but he wanted to let him know that Hector knows about the gun?
This is a masterclass of understated acting by two true pros at it- no screaming or yelling, not even a tone change. These two characters don’t need any of that to get across how dangerous each is, and Banks and Margolis nail it to the wall. Mike Erhmantraut has got to be the most badass character on tv-and when he’s about to die, the expression on his face says exactly what everyone was thinking- this guy gets killed by a high school chemistry teacher?? I always like to picture it as $50,000 straight up, and the gun was added to sweeten the deal.

During this period of BCS, Mike truly hated his nature and only wanted to live so he can support his daughter-in-law and granddaughter. But, as BCS continues, he learns to accept who he is. If this happened in BCS season 5, Mike would've never striked up a deal. But this version of Mike is really special, because his only purpose in life was supporting his family. Even Walt would've never done something this brave, in the name of his family
I agree, I mean Walt often had giant balls too but nothing he did was for his family
@@jro3213 Let's be fair to Walt, in the beginning it WAS for his family... then somewhere along the line he just lost it
@@jro3213 It was for his family at first, but the more he does it, he got more bold in his actions and started to enjoy the criminal life, but it was still for his family. After he went to Tuco with those "minibombs", got into his car, you could see his violent self acts out in excitement. But still after that, he still did it for his family as the way he thinks eventho it pains him everytime trying to get out of the criminal career FOR his family. Tho that all ended after Skyler gave his money to Ted, you could see "Walt - the guy does it for his family" truly died lying down there crying while laughing like a maniac
Walt did exactly this in tucos office, what are you on about?
How would he deal with the situation, then?
He hasn't died from his mouth because he's level-headed and has common sense.
Ironically it was his mouth that got him killed. He knew Walt was a very proud man and had a very volatile response to insults. But yet Mike decided to get those few digs in at the end
@@brettbrooks5511 Yes, that is true. I guess that really set another difference between Hector and Walt.
@@brettbrooks5511 Indeed
He's also a better shot than anybody else in ABQ.
He knows he has an advantage if only in that he is willing to die. Hector isn't willing. In a sense, if he dies, he loses both himself and his family, but he is okay with at least losing himself. Hector isn't okay with losing even that. So he has the drop on Hector and Hector knows it. Hector is a supreme, relentless egotist. Losing his life is not okay even if he gets post-mortem revenge.
@@rickyandreou well said
@@rickyandreou He probably sympathized with Mike a bit. During their first meeting, Hector personally apologizes for Tuco's behavior and offers to force him to apologize after getting out of prison. Hector is an old man, so seeing someone as old as Mike being disrespected and assaulted by one of his own family may have set off whatever emotion is closest to kindness in Hector's twisted mind
@@rickyandreou Do you not understand what’s going on at all? Hector needs Mike alive to say the gun was his or else Tuco would be in jail for a long long time. Sure he admired his courage but Mike himself knew they needed him which is why he had the balls to ask for more money. Also what do you think would happen if the same old guy ends up dead? The primary suspect would be Tuco. Sometimes when you think a criminal is being too nice just know they have their own reasons for it.

@@summ.3433 No. The lady said her husband dissapeared years ago. The scene was only shown because by speaking with this woman Mike imagined the dead samaritan's wife perhaps waiting for him without hope. Never knowing what happened to her man.
it had more to do with hector threatening mike's family.
@Ben Franklin you obviously didn't see Mike and Gus meet for the first time because that is exactly the reason Mike did all of that.
Mike made the right decision by refusing to accept Hector's offer.
He did. Because he has giant balls.
