What a phenomenal & concise overview of blacks responses to d4. I've already bookmarked this video as a key "go-to" tutorial. I've been building my D4 opening "system" for years, comprised of the London proper, the Jobava London, Colle-Zukertort & Torre attack. This video will help dial in all my plans and strategies, based on black's responses. It has also demystified the Queen's Gambit options, ...so I may even start using c4 when appropriate. Needless to say, I am now subscribed. Thank YOU!!!!
You are the first person I have ever watched on youtube, where I love your voice. I want all my phone talking to me to be you. It sounds friendly but wise. Great vid.
Yes I play d4 as well.I started out playing E4 when I first started playing but I switched to d4 because I feel more comfortable now.Always can get better though .Thanks for great teaching video.
I thought, after all these years, that I had a pretty good understanding of chess terminology. But I need to thank you for teaching me what a "Beautemus Bishop"(5:30) is!!! It's never too late for an old dog to learn some new tricks! I also now know how to "Karpov it" and "Ariana Grande" this thing!!! LOVE your narration dude!
Thank you so much for this video it really helped a lot! I used to spend 1 minute per move in the opening and now i can play most openings in less then a minute. Do you have an opening against The Modern Defense with d4?
Very good introduction to 1.d4 for beginners and intermediate players. It is impossible to cover everything in depth, but it shows the main ideas. One of the few issues I have, is the question what to do if he plays a delayed Dutch. First e6 or d5, c6 and then later f5, after white has already played c4 and can no longer go for the Nc3 system.. Do you have a suggestion for this?
Absolutely, these videos were made as overviews for students years ago. If you have a lichess.org account I will send you the updated repertoire. Just send NM Trainingthanos a message and you will be good to go :). I suggest just playing the mainlines against the Dutch, the systems that hold up the best theoretically are the g3 mainlines. In the database I send you I provide a few different options.

So... when is the "d4 with Flavor!" course coming to Chessable :) Debating that Dark Knight with video now as the sale winds down, but left side of brain is remind me: i) I don't play 1.e4; ii) I'm about 2% done with my Labor Day purchases. Still it looks fun ;)
Openings Oddities was a huge task...I have one more Black text I will accomplish (fighting against 1.d4) before I tackle a full White repertoire (or multiple).
7:08 be a little careful about move order. the main line for black after e3 is Bf5, so you don't want to play Nbd2 blocking the queen from protecting the bishop after Bd3
Englund Gambit is hardly worth a look as it takes basic play to get a better position: 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 4. Bf4 Qb4+ 5. Bd2 Qxb2 6. Nc3 followed by Rb1.
Against d4, there's more limited variation for black, compared to e4. And only 3 dangerous gambit for black, Albin Counter Gambit, Englund Gambit, Budapest Gambit (wich is the only solid gambit). Against those gambit, once you know the refutation, black will be in disastrous position (except Budapest). So d4 is more reliable than e4 in my opinion, but also I get a little bored with it :D
