What an awesome episode filled with fascinating and helpful information. A huge thank you! I agree that making this a regular in your programming would be great.
Incredible video! Super informative, fun, and one I’ll likely watch a second or even third time. Keep more videos like these, and all the others that you produce, coming!!
Fantastic episode idea. Would it be possible to have a similar episode about buying accessories to make a full set Rolex? I have several watches with a wrong box and want to buy a period correct one. Also, are you providing this service (I give you a reference and you sell me the missing accessories like anchor, booklet, box, etc)? Thanks.
Good points. There is definitely no substitute for research - I felt so much more confident with a few years under my belt than right at the start. I was also helped hugely by being a vertical collector so could focus on a single model range on a single manufacturer (Heuer Carreras) and become an expert on those; I could also turn my hand to most of the contemporary Heuers and probably other manufacturers too to a lesser extent, just through knowing some of the pitfalls.
Second time I watch this video. I couldn't understand anything as I was simply mesmerized by Jordan's eyes. I"ll have to watch it a 3rd time. Luckily when I see Kirill at the end I wake up from my trance. Sorry for the late comment.
I have been looking at Omega Seamasters made between 1960 to 1969 on Ebay for the last few months. What I have learned is that most were only made with silver, white or cream dials. These are selling for around $310 to $425 depending on condition. The ones that were refurbished with green or blue painted dials are selling between $700 to $1400. So when you say to look and make sure the dials are original, those ones are a dime a dozen and don't sell for much. People buying watches today want interesting and colorful dials. Refurbed old Seamasters with blue, red or green dials are being bought way more and for higher prices today than old original ones.
The signature is correct, there are many Rolexs with Abdulla Al Jaber Al Subaah name on the dails. He was Former Kuwaiti minister from the ruling family and special advisor to the ruler of Kuwait.
I did a little research and saw a couple, but they are wayyyyy crisper than the one in this listing. And from the same era. This one looked very crude. In any case, even if original, it’s clear the premium isn’t there for this.
When I see you in your different field coats/jackets. it makes me think of someone who carries watches for sale inside their coats. "Pst! Hey, wanna buy a watch" 😂😂😂
Thank you Adam and Jordan, this video was very informative. This should give people some basic knowledge, but if they want to make sure they are getting a real watch without all the headaches, plus a great price, then they should call you. Great video, again you gave very good advice here.😊
The main take away from this video for me is unless you thoroughly know a brand and the era it came from, or the owner/history of the watch, you are best to buy from a subject matter expert like Adam. Two follow-on questions: 1. Under ebay's Authenticity Guarantee program, should I expect the reviewer to do the same type of in-depth analysis that Adam does, pointing out all of the possible "issues" with the watch, in this video? 2. Why is a watch with the Khanjar logo watch increase its value so much?
For the love of denim, tho! Why do watch guys universally know so much about watches but nothing about how grown ass men should dress? 😂 (That aside, great show!)
Vintage Rolex market has got to be one of the stupidest. 10K for a flaky Submariner that you'd worry banging it against the desk? A modern Tissot or Longines diver is probably superior to that 60s rinky-dink Rolex submariner in case, movement, build quality, everything. 90K for the old Daytona that's much thicker than today's variant, which ONLY costs about 20-30K?! Plus it's manual wind, so you got to unscrew/rescrew that crown every single day. People who pay exorbitant amounts for old useless Daytonas (including the $17 million just because Paul Newman once had it) ought to have their heads examined
Research, research, research, research. Did I mention research? If it looks too good to be true, probably is. Lots of frankenstein watches. among other things on ebay. But every once in a while, you can strike gold.....
In the US, I wish I could buy from offshore, to us, dealerships without having to pay the duty that comes with it. Subjective amount, to be sure. But definitely adds to the cost of the watch. No question, Germany would be a great place to purchase from! My German cars concur. Lol
Please please please make this a regular series! Super educational and entertaining.
Maybe!!!
@@mentawatches i'd also luv to see more of these -- appreciate your knowledge
Love it! We need more videos like this to educate buyers make the right decisions and know what to look for.

Well said! Way easier to become very knowledgeable on a brand if you focus on it singularly for sure.
Saw you at the U game this past weekend, was going to say hi but turned around and you were off as quick as you came. Great episode and as always!

Only in dark alleys.
@mentawatches keep up the great work, Adam.
I collect vintage watches for a long time. I can say that the Seamaster shown here is not in a perfect condition. It is highly polished.

Yep! eBay can be a good source from time to time, but you really need to know what you are doing!
dealers dont like sell from privat to privat. Make a lot of fear increase the profit.Crazy examples.
The first watch , the Arabic name , that the head of my country Kuwait , prince 👑 Abdullah Al-Sabah.
Sharks and liars abound!
Would never buy of eBay, there are so many trusted local sellers here in germany
