    On vowels, this is very good - I like the way you put the two sounds side by side. But I think it would much better if 1) you said whether a vowel were short or not, 2) whether the vowel was common, and 3) how the vowel would sound if followed by a បន្តក់ consonant. On the independent vowels, how many do we really need to know for beginning level - what are the words using independent vowels at the beginning level. Thanks again!

    • @bangkokmaco
      @bangkokmaco 4 года назад +1

      Forgot - how would the vowel sound followed by រ, and again, whether common or not. I guess what I'd really like is a video "Khmer vowels - what you really need to know"

    • @Zdrange03
      @Zdrange03 3 года назад +2

      រ doesn't change the sound of the vowel.
      Bantak vowels កត់, គក់/គប់, កាក់, គាក់/គាត់(kɑk, kʊək/kʊp, kak, keək/koət) are kind of missing, but you have them indirectly via the ំ, ាំ, ះ and ោះ vowels, since they correspond to -ម់ , ាម់, ាហ់ and -ហ់, providing an example for kɑm/kʊm, kam/koəm, kah/keəh, kɑh/kʊəh.
      The short vowels are these + ិ, ឹ, plus all the other ំ and ះ vowels.

      Hi, Kelly, actually Khmer alphabet doesn't have sound អ៊័រ. We only have 1st series called អ (or/aw) and 2nd series is អ៊ (er). You heard sound អ៊័រ because pronunciation from different people always different a little bit.

    • @Dara-TheKhmerLesson
      @Dara-TheKhmerLesson  4 года назад +2

      if no vowel, you just read the name of that consonant. if that consonant has sub-consonant, you need to spell with that sub-consonant and need to look that sub-consonant too. Sometime sound will follow consonant and sometime will follow sub-consonant. Consonants in Khmer can stand alone without any vowel and also have the meaning. For example: ក = neck, ត = go on
