My friend who usually plays either Mono White or White Black played a Green, White, Red Commander and he was like "Is this what having Mana feels like?!"
Literally me. I play White or Boros, mostly. Then, I dropped into Naya and went, "Holy shit! How is my hand empty? I cast all that? Oh my god! This is awesome!"
17:56 Worth noting here that the first card Mald chooses to claim from the revealed non-land should have been copied due to ToH Adventurer's ability, and the fact that Etali has you CAST those spells, not merely put them into play. The requirement is not "cast from hand" merely, "cast 2nd spell", so one of those cards should have been a 2 of. Notably, this would have offered him the option of a second crested sunmare, which would make each other indestructible, thus both surviving the damnation that come down the following turn. Small mistakes are one thing, but that was a HUGE game-changing whiff that nobody caught (to be clear, I'm aware Mald didn't build the deck and was not familiar with the cards, I'm not criticizing him per se, but that does not negate the massive impact such a mistake had on the overall outcome of the game.) Edit: On a separate note, that is the greatest Apex Devastator cascade I've ever seen lol. That was so sick. I was rooting for Mald so hard after that.
It’s funny you mention duping Crested Sunmare. I actually run a Bramble Sovereign in my Lathiel list because there are so many busted things in there that get insane. So many great targets, but yeah Crested Sunmare duped is a super-performer. Heck, just duping the best Soul Sisters is worth it. Lathiel’s a list you can just keep on optimizing w/ better creatures.

fun misplay at 18:50. Mald cast his second spell, so he should have gotten *two* Crested Sunmares from Tomb of Horrors Adventurer. Both of "his" Horses should, indeed, have had indestructible.
Everyone misses that limitation for a while. Just like ppl new to playing Good Heliod frequently miss counter-add life gain triggers during complicated turns.
Clicked for Maldhound and got Joe Cherries as well? Hell yeah. Your production, descriptions, pacing, and chatter are all right at the right levels as usual. You guys always seem to get the right balance.
Game like this one really sold me on Robe of Stars, piloting Lathiel. The Teferi’s/Clever Concealment route is generally fine, but stuff like Edict-recursion or someone just being loaded up on removal really makes you appreciate cards like Robe and Shalai, Voice of Plenty. Great game, all of you! :)
Did mald miss a tomb of horrors adventurer proc after casting Etali? He couldve picked any one of the spells to duplicate (probably the horse so they could make each other indestructible)
After you complete a dungeon it does 2 copies. Before it does 1 copy. In each instance it only works for your second spell. So, yes he should have copied one of the spells flipped with Etali. 2 horses would have been very strong.
@markbrierley6367 I don't think there was a single exile effect used so he would've always had 2 5/5 indestructible blockers. Unless someone was holding up an exile for such a point. That said, I don't think he ever gained life either, so it would've just been the 2
@@Dervalanana Nerdgirl used a swords on the orc army, but yes very different game if resolved properly. He might have grabbed some lifegain off the Mind's Dilation if the game played out differently. It happens. Magic is hard.
@@markbrierley6367 Whiffing on a mind's dilation is NOT the same thing as missing a trigger from your own board. When they are minor mistakes (like missing 1 card draw, or 2 life, etc.) it's usually not that big a deal, but giving Mald a board that CAN'T be board wiped without exile, especially with the hindsight that only 1 exile effect happened all game long, is a MASSIVE change in how the game played out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should hate on the players (they were playing with decks they didn't build after all) but it's also not something that should be written off so casually when it was a huge deal.

Maldhound forgot to get the copy of the crested sun mare. The adventurer copies the second spell you cast so he'd had 2 and had indestructible buddy horses
Joe, it's so good to see you back and especially playing one of your favourite commanders - you are the reason I built Henzie and Umori, and it's now one of my favourite decks too! :D
Only six minutes in but I will note - things like Rootwire Automaton that *are* more than three, but have alternate casting costs, do still worth with Keruga
Commander is complex. Magic is hard. Nobody catches everything. Here's things to watch out for in your own games. The owner of triggers stacks them, not the active player. They stack in turn order so they resolve in reverse turn order. Lathiel cannot target herself with her own ability. Taking the initiative is a trigger. You can only respond to the trigger with instants, instant speed abilities, or flash spells. The Tomb of Horrors Adventurer copies your second spell of the turn once if you haven't completed a dungeon and twice if you have. Discarding to hand size is in the clean up step. Make sure you let your opponents respond to end step first.
18:00 - 18:10 @Maldhound... You, uh, do realize it's "each player", not "each _other_ player"? You didn't get a card from your own deck. Yes, I know this won't alert him.
Yes. Most cards that bounce permanents to hands, return them to their owners hands/graveyards instead of player controlling them controllers. Also there is a land called [Homeward Path] that when tapped returns all *creatures* to their owners control instead of sending them to hand.
theres a few of cards that do exactly that I believe some of them have other effects too and those see more play. also in addition to the bouncing mentioned above theres blinking/flickering where you exile the cards then return it to the battlefield after in which case it will always return to its owners side.
