WSAN was a very connected radio station back in the day. The proximity between NYC and Philly made it a stop along tours, and the people that worked there were amazingly insightful and intuitive in the music business. I’m suprised this tape exists, but really i shouldn’t be considering WSAN was involved.I grew up 4 miles away from this theater, heard about all the concerts held there ( even met the guy who talked the promoter into booking ACDC there) but was a few years too young to attend any, i just saw many movies there. This is cool.
Great live renditions of: 1.) Rosalinda - 0:42 2.) Souvenir - 5:02 3.) She's Got A Way - 11:42 4.) Everybody Loves You Now - 16:38 Plus plenty of great stage banter and stories between songs!
So awesome. I grew up going to the Roxy to see movies and always heard stories about this show. It's like a local legend has come to life hearing this.
I knew this tape existed, but never heard it until now. The quality is better than I expected. Coincidentally, I was in Northampton a couple weeks back on a bike ride and while looking for a lunch stop, encountered the Roxy's owner standing outside his theater. After I mentioned attending some of the WSAN shows, he invited us in to look at a couple of framed photo montages of all the acts that played there. We could not have met a more hospitable guy! It was obvious his theater was a labor of love. I've been in a lot of theaters in the area, but this one has them all beat. I think we could have had a guided tour but my cycling shoes are not made for walking. The shows I remember attending are Budgie, Thin Lizzy, and City Boy; but unfortunately not this one. Thanks for posting this. WSAN was a local treasure.
Great live renditions of: 1.) Rosalinda - 0:41 2.) Souvenir - 5:02 3.) She's Got A Way - 11:42 4.) Everybody Loves You Now - 16:39 ...plus plenty of great stage banter and stories between songs! Thanks so much for posting!!!
This is phenomenal! I also went to the Roxy to see movies -- it's a beautiful theater! I can remember my brother telling me about Billy Joel's performance there. It is really great to hear this recording. Thank you for sharing!!!
Magnífico tesoro. Soy fiel seguidor de la carrera de Billy desde hace más de 3 décadas, y encontrar ésto en RUclips es una agradable sorpresa. MUCHAS GRACIAS / A real treasure. Thank you very much !
It's a song about his mother and was written for Cold Spring Harbor but didn't make the album. Not sure why. Glad you liked the tape - thanks for listening!
Terrific find! Is there more? The poster suggests he's the headliner, so I'm sure he played more than 19-20 minutes. The pops during "Rosalinda" are unfortunate, but what can you do? Also... Two different shows? The dialogue, and the sound, changes at 8:20. Weird, but again what'cha gonna do? Pretty amazing.
15:38, it changes back (To the original source at the start of the tape?) again. Would love to know more about this, or if there's more than just the 19-20 minutes here.
I was there at the Roxy. First time I saw Billy Joel. We paid about 2.75 a ticket. He always mad my heart sing.
That's really cool Renee! I'm glad you found this to reminisce! . 2.75 a ticket - wow.
Billy Joel played the piano and said “You make my heart 💝 sing!”
This has made my year!!!
Glad to hear it!

"All you have to do is love, and you'll be loved in return." Oh, Billy, I wish it were that easy

I love this recording of Souvenir. That’s the way he should’ve sang it all the time- hitting that high G and whatnot. Oh you better believe it
Absolutely. A beautiful song.

This made me cry! It was amazing!
How young! What a magnificent find! I went to WSAN Roxy concerts back in the day. Many great names for $2. We were so lucky!
So glad you found this! We probably saw some of the same shows there! I particularly remember the Tubes...
Fantastic find here.....great sound and performance! Thanks!
Wow. What a treat. I love his rare / bootleg / never released stuff. The quality is brilliant too. Thank you for sharing! Really nice.
Great voice!

Wow. He is KILLING SOUVENIR!
I recall hearing about this a few years back and was hoping for the release of it. Glad this surfaced. When it does, I will be buying this.
Given Sony's sketchy track record of releasing Billy stuff, don't hold your breath.
This is really cool!
What a great find! What a great idea if we could get him to perform again at the Roxy!
Typed my birthday into RUclips search ❤️
Joanna, that's a riot! Gotta love those keywords!
5:57 damn
Very cool. I can't believe I'd never heard the song "Rosalinda" before. Why hasn't it ever been released?!
It's a song about his mother and was written for Cold Spring Harbor but didn't make the album. Not sure why. Glad you liked the tape - thanks for listening!
I’ve never heard it outside of the Sigma show. Very cool that there’s another performance out there.
It is on the Legacy Edition of Piano Man.

Talento infinito Billy Piano MAN Joel
I think the only other time he performed “Rosalinda” was during the WMMR radio concert (Philadelphia).
could be!
Che talento Piano Man ... Musicalità innata
Wow, how did you dig this one up? Someone's got connections!
this would be the earliest performance of "Souvenir" surely?
This is great! Is this a recording of his complete set, or is there more out there?
both shows were recorded by the DJ who emceed the shows, but this is all he’s leaked… so far
