Thank you for your comment. No doubt many of the musicians and tastemakers Reggie and I interviewed not only heard of them, but they might have even played with them. The joy of music is it is truly collaborative. George Clinton doesn't like being called the Godfather of Funk. Dr. Funk Clinton says James Brown is the Godfather and rightfully so.Call him Dr.Funkenstein.
I was always intrigued with the singer from the Spinners that Chris Rock mentioned...(Felipe...) It was just an amazing sound hearing it as a kid..❤✌😉 But in my later years I analyzed music and made the connection with the Spinners singer and Parliament.
@@barryjohnson409 When we produced the 70th birthday tribute concert for George at the Apollo Theater, Shelia was part of the performance and burned up the stage on top of it. It was an incredible night.

Chris Rock ruined his own story with that way off-base timeline. "Knee Deep" was "the big song" in 1979-80. It WAS NOT the "remix". It was the album version and Phillippe Wynne died in Oakland, in 1984, on the other side of the country from The Apollo Theater and years removed from being in Funkadelic.
Rick James died August of 2004. His version of funk may have died with him. It was a bit of a placebo. But PFunk is Pure Funk. “uncut Funk”. THE BOMB! It lives forever 🔥🔥🔥

Perfect! That's what it was like with the concert we produced at the Apollo celebrating George's 70th birthday. You just didn't want it to end.
Much Gratitude
Ps Peace to Sly and The Family Stone.

None of these people ever heard of New Orleans' Funky Meters? But that's about right for the mass media. It's all about appearances before substance.

All this while George Clinton's other band FUNKADELIC was the greatest ROCK band of the 70s too.

I love George, i think he further along the funk genre. But James Brown invented funk music.
George Clinton doesn't like being called the Godfather of Funk. Dr. Funk Clinton says James Brown is the Godfather and rightfully so.Call him Dr.Funkenstein.
JAMES BROWN MAY HAVE INVENTED THE FUNK BUT, GEORGE CLINTON IS MR. DR. FUNKESTEIN. 1love
James was getting close but it took Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone influences also before Funk was fully separated from soul.

Funk separated from soul. When did that happen. What artist separated the two?
Don't think just play that's how they did it.
I knew what the mothership represented, but I'd never connected the mothership to the motherland.
The homie flee broke it down soo efficiently . the other aspect i feel is the fact that they started out both as real indie acts
