    I worked for Mr. Clinton for a week at Baggies Studio in Soho in the early 70's. Kool and the Gang were rehearsing one floor up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Clinton_(funk_musician)

    Jeff, It always amazes me just how deep your music (and dancing) experience goes. You need to do an episode or short doc on that from your travels to Africa for Kuduro to all the concerts you produced here in the US.

      No doubt many of the musicians and tastemakers Reggie and I interviewed not only heard of them, but they might have even played with them. The joy of music is it is truly collaborative.     I love George, i think he further along the funk genre. But James Brown invented funk music.

      George Clinton doesn't like being called the Godfather of Funk. Dr. Funk Clinton says James Brown is the Godfather and rightfully so.Call him Dr.Funkenstein.

      James was getting close but it took Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone influences also before Funk was fully separated from soul.

    I was always intrigued with the singer from the Spinners that Chris Rock mentioned...(Felipe...)
    It was just an amazing sound hearing it as a kid..❤✌😉
    But in my later years I analyzed music and made the connection with the Spinners singer and Parliament.

      @@barryjohnson409 When we produced the 70th birthday tribute concert for George at the Apollo Theater, Shelia was part of the performance and burned up the stage on top of it. It was an incredible night.

      When I was still living in NJ in the 90s I saw Parliament & Bootsy in concert for my first time in Central Park, NYC.
      It was all that I expected it to be considering that I grew up on the sound courtesy of my late uncle.

    Chris Rock ruined his own story with that way off-base timeline. "Knee Deep" was "the big song" in 1979-80. It WAS NOT the "remix". It was the album version and Phillippe Wynne died in Oakland, in 1984, on the other side of the country from The Apollo Theater and years removed from being in Funkadelic.

      Rick James died August of 2004. His version of funk may have died with him. It was a bit of a placebo.
      But PFunk is Pure Funk. “uncut Funk”. THE BOMB! It lives forever 🔥🔥🔥
