Let’s be clear. We have a clear site, no noise, no music, no crude jokes, no foul language or sexist jokes. Just a master tradesman at work, honing and enjoying his craft whilst a skilled apprentice learns an education money cannot buy. The model to follow here isn’t the roof construction - the quality of the work is obvious - it’s in the man. Robin is beyond gold standard. He is by far the most professional, diligent, fastidious, respectful tradesperson I have ever seen anywhere on tv, online or real life. A 24 carat human being, and that cannot be trained, bought or feigned.

I like to keep a clean workspace whether in the workshop or on the job. I love my classical music and the music of the 60's, and 70's so my Makita bluetooth speaker or my Bluetooth muffs are always playing something. There is nothing wrong with having a laugh and a joke together as men on a job. The trades are one of the last male spaces left and we need to protect that, 👍🔨🇮🇪

@@TheToolnut What’s ‘male’ about wielding a nail gun or a tape measure? I’ve read the instructions and I can’t find the section where it tells me where my genitals are required!!
I think you’re name is definitely half right. Tool. 😂

I'm a carpenter have been for 38 years, there was nothing I loved more than getting stuck into a big roofing job like this. I'm 55 now and have to say I'm knackered! As soon as I reached 50 it was as if my body said, that's enough! My back, my knees, shoulders, all from years of lugging timber, climbing ladders its hard graft, never used to even bother me when I was young but its a struggle these days it really is. My advice to any wannabe joiners is have a plan B for when you get old, Joinery is all I know, it gets tougher and tougher the older you get trust me. The construction trade isn't for wimps and neither is getting old!

Nice and relaxing for young Ed. When I was an apprentice I constantly had tradesmen yelling and screaming at me so far from relaxing! Wish I had a mentor like robin.
    Merry Xmas Rob and Ed

I wish all tradesmen were like Robin. I know a lot of people who would much rather just go to another job due to toxic coworkers. Toxic coworkers who somehow think that being in that kind of environment is good. Then they scratch their head wondering why more people are not doing their trade.

Superb! Robin I’ve been watching you from the days of you filming yourself with your phone, the content has always been absolutely top notch and it’s been great to see the editing side come together from you Ed. This video was great, the music choice was great and your logo thing at the front is great too, it all comes together and works so well with each other. And of course, the carpentry which is what I’m here first and foremost for has always been and continues to be a treat to watch. Cheers!

Cut and pitching a roof is in my opinion one of the most enjoyable parts of carpentry and very satisfying when it is all up and working. I get little enjoyment out of doing trusses. In fact they are mostly cumbersome annoying things and have destroyed an art and skill that was so common to the point where most so called Carpenters in Australia couldn't build that. Not their fault that part of the job mostly no longer exists. This is such a shame as it used to be a major part of the job. A lot of the old barns and houses I worked on that had long pitches like that all done out of short length 4x2 and stacks of purlins and struts. Having the modern large long rafters simplifies the job some what but still interesting. Having now seen the finished roof it certainly came out good.
